Riders might enforce the law outside the Weyrs but within the Weyrs it is a force known as the Special Investigators who keep order. The force is always separate from any Wing, Hunt, Craft, or other formal group within the Weyr. In High Reaches anyone over the age of 20 can apply to join this force - anyone who isn't a drudge anyway - but only those with a squeaky clean record will be accepted. It is their role to investigate and deal with the crime and disorder that inevitably springs up within the Weyr itself from time to time. Gold riders play an important role in this force as their dragons can break up conflict between dragons and indeed whers with their Command ability if needs be, and can pressure dragons into being truthful too. The Special Investigators are usually headed up by the Weyrmaster or mistress but if they are unsuited due to age, personality, ability, etc, the Headman and Weyrleader as the Weyr's top dogs, and the Weyrharper as their legal expert, will allow applications to fill this role and select somebody suitable. The leader of the Special Investigators is called Senior Investigator, all others are called simply Investigators.
Work done for the Special Investigators is carried out on top of other duties, and Investigators are given stipend of five marks per month (be they male or female) for their trouble. In serious cases they will be excused other duties to carry out investigations provided whatever they would otherwise be doing isn't deemed more important. Being a member of the Special Investigators garners some respect from about a quarter the Weyr, indifference from perhaps half and active dislike from the other quarter. Members of the Special Investigators wear a brass badge in the shape of High Reaches Weyr's crest when they are on duty (and at other times if they wish to), much like a searchrider wears a patch on their jacket; it declares that they carry out duties above and beyond their role in their Wing, Hunt, or other daily work.
Special Investigators who get themselves into trouble may be stripped of their position, so please as always remember that IC actions = IC consequences.

So you want to be a Special Investigator? Well you've come to the right place! Simply fill out the form below and post it here in this thread for your character to be considered.
You should only apply if your character would IC want to do the job, nobody is asked to join the SIs, you have to apply.
All applicants will be accepted if they are suitable! Troublemakers - those who get themselves involved in fights and so on - will not be accepted unless they have done something to redeem themselves. Character name: C'ross of blue Nimith Link to profile: XCharacter age: 26 How long would you like them to have been a SI for?: Two turns Has your character ever caused trouble in the Weyr?: Had an unpleasant falling-out with his former squiremaster over issues of colorism (as one might imagine a bluerider and his bronzeriding former mentor might) but kept it a relatively private matter. If your character has been in trouble, what have they done to redeem themselves?: C'ross and Nimith have been consistently excellent fliers during Threadfall, as well as consistently scrupulous in their work with Second Wing. The bluerider might not have a reputation for being charming or courteous, but he is both honorable and disciplined... and notably willing to stand up to his fellow riders, even those with power over him.
