This place was starting to feel tedious. Punchy had already put up with a hell of a lot more than he would have normally out of sheer curiosity, but everyone around here was a little too smartmouthed for him. He knew he could sass tatzels just fine. Trees were another story. And that lake...
Punchy let out an exaggerated sigh and spun on his heel, looking for something to do that didn't involve thinking. He paused abruptly, noticing a strange shape slithering through the trees. It wasn't a tree itself, was it? No, it wasn't. It was a demon-eating plant and it was coming right toward him.
Punchy shouted, his extra pink hands giving the creature a double bird-flipping salute. Now here was something he could—
The plant moved a lot quicker than he imagined, apparently, but it seemed it had the same idea he did. Fighting. Well, he could do that. Kind of. How did one fight around here?
He swung a fist at the flytrap, but it didn't seem to do much. His opponent hit back, its teeth closing around Punchy's arm.

"Hit somethin'!" Punchy shouted, accidentally calling up an odd screen with way too many menus on it. The thing reminded him a little bit of that wolf game from the maul, and once that thought entered his mind, he was hard pressed to stop it from taking over.
This was a game. That was really the only explanation.
He smacked at a couple of the buttons in front of him, his grin growing as he launched another weak attack.

"Useless piece'a..." Punchy flicked the card at the plant's rounded chin and the creature reeled back with a hiss. The boil stared at the card as it flickered for a moment then disappeared completely, rematerializing in his hand.

The flytrap seemed almost content to watch Punchy puzzle out the system of attack, but then it delivered a swift slap to the side of the boil's head and the illusion of peace was over.

One of the cards he'd chosen the time before had manifested a sort of shield that kept him from harm the next time the plant lashed out. Punchy used this reprieve from being... punched... to read his screen more closely.

Prodding at the healing card one last time, Punchy then lived up to his name and got to punching. With all of the healing he had been doing, he was actually in better health than the plant at this point, and he concentrated on chipping away at the creature's remaining life.

A wave of strength and power washed over the boil and as he walked away from the scene of his first fight in this world, Punchy looked down at his pocket card with newfound respect. Or maybe that was just exasperation.
