Yes. This was more like it.
JabberWhut grinned as he surveyed the scene. He had had enough of wandering around examining trees, talking to cats and then following dumb signs that lead you nowhere, up there, down here, and everywhere--He was going to do what real, awesome gaming was all about: fighting monsters yeeaah.
Just him against the giant snake, a giant talking snake, but hey, who would have it otherwise?
He moved forward towards the snake, slashing at its tail. Unfortunately, the snake had moved even faster, driving its fangs quickly into Jabber's shoulder and he only just managed to get away by attacking its head as it was sinking its fangs in. JabberWhut started backing away now.
The stupid snake is more trouble than I though. And he winced as he touched his shoulder. Both of them were currently at 25 HP; he needed more luck. He didn't want to just barely scrape through this fight. As luck would have it, JabberWhut did get luck this time. A squirrel suddenly appeared over the snake's head and while it was distracted, he had dealt a crushing blow to its side. Unfortunately, he got a little scrapped as he pulled away from the attack.

JabberWhut cursed under his breath. I told you not to get too cocky, but nooooo, now look at that. Not a single of his attacks had made it to the snake which had dodged them easily. Jabber was breathing very heavily now. He had missed yet another attack, but he did manage to scrape the snake once and heal a little so the two were about even again. Uggggh, remind me again the next time I try going against a snake by myself. Just kidding, I'm going to go up against the snake by myself again later. I can totally do this.
JabberWhut had landed two successively powerful attacks and had healed himself a decent amount though the snake was still doing damage to him, but this was looking good. Right, the snake was still a pretty decent opponent, but JabberWhut knew that the battle was coming to an end. JabberWhut collapsed to the ground himself. A new battle card floated over him.
All that fighting just for one measly card. I should go back to being annoyed at lakes if this is what you get from fighting monsters. He paused as he thought about how annoying the memories at the lake had been, Nah, nevermind, I'll just continue fighting monsters. This is good. Just let me rest for now.
