At first, she thought this was a joke, until she playing around, causing them to change into the wakizashi and nodachi. She keeps them with her. She got the long bow, disguise as the ring, from her mother, who mention her biological father want her to give it to her, once she got his package.
Biography
Kumiko was born in Osaka, Japan, and her mother, Ayano Kensuke, raise her own her own. Ayano was working the art museum as the guidance to support her daughter and herself. She left her infant daughter in the childcare center. Kumiko grew up without knowing her biological father, her mother briefly talking about him, they met in the museum looking at the Japanese art. Kumiko grew interest in art, music, and sports as she spends time doing sports activities in her young age.
In elementary school, she met Sakura Makato when she finds her taking care of school gardens, and surprise to see her having a bright blue eyes instead of brown. At first, she thought Sakura was strange, until next day she notice the school garden became fresh and more living, and all classmates harvest them. She makes an honest talk, she points out that she saw Sakura taking care of school gardens, which they appreciated her hard work. Kumiko and Sakura were cooking partners in cooking class, and finds her amazed of cooking talent, even Sakura is teaching her how to cook, when she was having a trouble. After all of cooking class, they became friends, and gets to know her.
Kumiko learned Sakura doesn't have mother around, so she tries to ask her about her mother, but Sakura only replies that her father never talked about her. Seeing her sadness, Kumiko cheers her up by doings sports activities, she wants to repay her for teaching her how to cook, so she taught her the sports.
A few days pass after her 9th birthday, she was sad to see Sakura moved to New York because her father's job transfer. They promise each other they will write a letter to keep in touch. After Sakura's departure to New York City, Ayano support her daughter and take her to dance class, saying dancing will overcome her stress. After taking a dance class, Kumiko felt better and stay cheerful, until she suddenly feels someone was watching her, but she brushes it off. She got the letter from Sakura, and got the address and learn New York people were ignored her, in much of her dismay. She wrote it back to cheer her up. After a few weeks of Sakura's departure, she began to develop ADHD and Dyslexia, and her teachers said everyone sometimes has them. She keeps it that way, especially told her mother about it. Few days later, she suffered both of them, even she detected the lies, earning losing all of trust on liars.
By the time pass her 13th birthday, her mother gave her a news that they will take a vacation to New York City, meaning a chance to meet Sakura, but Ayano seems to alarm. Kumiko was getting ready to see her best friend, and see what is like in America. After arriving at JFK, Kumiko could have sworn she had been watched behind her back, but she believed she's has a jet lag. Before Kumiko asked her mother, Ayano quickly takes her daughter to the rental car without saying anything. After rented a car, Kumiko tried to ask her again, but she and her mother was attacked by the furies. They were trying their best to evade them. Ayano told her a real reason why they are in New York, because Kumiko's biological father instruction when she was pregnant. She revealed who she is, but didn't reveal her father's name, but he mentioned about the camp, that is good for her.
Arriving in Long Island, Furies attack them, and grab Kumiko and nearly gets killed. Before she meets the end, Ayano takes her place by shielding her. Kumiko was traumatized, but she pulled out her ring and changes it to long bow. Not experience with archery, but she shot it perfectly to scare the Furies away, which is success. She looked at nearly death of her mother, before Ayano died, she gave her daughter a ring to remember her. Her mother told her to be safe in the camp, and she loves her, until she died. Kumiko earned mental scar for remembering her mother's death, but she kept her mother's promise and run off with her stuff. Few minutes later, the furies came back to finish her off, but one of satyrs save her and takes her to Camp Half Blood. She was hoping that she will get over the guilt for unable to save her mother, but her emotion gained her mental scar.
