Nikita:
*nearly yawns as she runs her omnitool over the door scanner, acting as if she was pushing a heavy door as the security door opened in a well-rehearsed mime. Making herself a quick batch of coffee, she started up her workspace and dove into her project, swimming through the virtual code to the files she had left off at. She was nearly in 'the zone' when her omnitool chimed. Returning to the office, she waited for a moment before the announcement system in the office droned on about a security drill. Groaning lightly, she followed the indicator lights, exchanging annoyed looks with one of her colleagues before going over the status of some of their projects. They continued on autopilot down the hallway as they talked, both freezing where they stood at the sound of gunfire echoing through the complex*
Nazira: *sitting at her desk pretending to read a case file for the fifth time, glances at her omnitool waiting for her office shift to end before going to get food and sit around waiting for SWAT calls* ...*yawns and nearly over extends sending her backwards in her chair* Spirits forsaken....*jerks as her omnitool buzzes* Spirits. *gets up and rushes out* SWAT Call! *to the rest of the personal she shares an office with, rushes to the briefing and grumbles about not being lead negotiator, but understands the need to break in her replacement. Once on site helps formulate the plan to go in the back way and leads a team around a maintenance access stairway and takes a deep* Vakarian in position.
Lead: Roger.
Nazira: *listening to her replacement and wincing at how badly he's handling it* Should have let me handle it...
Lead: Vakarian, get in there and see if you can get the hostages out.
Nazira: Roger...*slowly cracks open the door and slips inside making sure no one noticed her coming in, the terrorists paying more attention to the primary forces at the front of the area. Resists the urge to snort and mutters under her breath* Amateurs...*looks over towards the closest hostage being Nikita and looks around finding a stylus and flicks it across the floor since she's relatively close to the desks to get her attention*
Nikita:
*tries to remain calm as she and a few other colleagues are herded by the gunmen to another office, feeling helpless at only being armed with her omnitool. She sits at one of the chairs in the conference room, trying to keep her focus as the 'anti-digital life' terrorists paid attention to the negotiator. He didn't seem to be very good at this, in her opinion, but he was at least making progress. She had been relieved of her omnitool, but luckily she had downloaded all of her files to the hidden storage in her suit, but it still meant she couldn't pass the time playing cards. She sighed with exhaustion, bracing her forehead on her fingers, ears perking up at the sound of a stylus softly bouncing across the floor by her feet. Leaning down to pick it up, she looked along the floor to see where it might have come from, nearly gasping out loud when she spotted the officer staring at her. She casually looked around a bit to make sure she wasn't being watched, then made a very small waving gesture towards her*
Nazira: *very slightly inclines her head, mouths "How many?"*
Nikita:
*nods faintly and leans back, quietly taking a few deep breaths to try and keep calm. She casually looks around, counting off the gunmen with her hands between her legs, nine total. After a while her gaze drifts back to Nazira, making sure she got the number before letting her hands relax again.*
Nazira: *swears to herself and mutters* Nine gunmen, at least...*very quickly pops the top of her head over the desk* 6 hostages. Solution?
Lead: Negative Vakarian, outside of the access stairway there is no line of site on the targets.
Nazira: *grits her teeth and takes a deep breath, listening to the chatter and nothing coming to resolution* Orders?
Lead: Take them out.
Nazira: Roger. *motions her team to move in and then looks over at Nikita, mouths, "Get Down, One, Two, Three"* GET DOWN GET DOWN! *comes up getting targets and taking them out cleanly*
Nikita:
*eyes go wide when she realizes what Nazira is saying, grabbing one of her colleagues and dragging her down with her just before the team moves in to take out the gunmen. She keeps her head down, but peeks around a bit at the scene. Once the shooting is over, the takes a deep breath and sighs with relief, relaxing into the floor.*
Nazira: *managed to wound what was apparently the leader and quickly moves to kick away weapons and get them cuffed and under control* Situation under control. Gonna need a bus, and a couple bags. *listens for reply and then looks around the room at the civilians* Anyone hurt?
Nikita:
*looks around at her other colleagues, who are doing the same*
I think we're all a bit shaken up, but they didn't hurt us.
*she slowly works herself up and sits with her legs folded under her, patting the spots where she had hidden data storage chips, reassuring herself just a bit*
Nazira: *nods and moves as medic and clean up teams move in* Good. As a quick run down as what happens now, is that medical personal will look you all over to make sure you're all fine, and then statements will be taken down at B-Sec. If you all want to follow the officers down to where medics are waiting for you. *watches most everyone shuffle out and sort of inserts herself between Nikita and the door* I want to thank you. You were most helpful.
Nikita:
*collects herself and works into a stand, trying to keep her legs from shaking as the adrenaline wears off. She follows suit with the rest of her colleagues and shuffles towards the door, nearly jumping when Nazira steps in front of her. She blushes and looks at the floor, wringing her hands lightly*
I...I'm glad you came for us...
Nazira: *mandibles twitch just slightly* Well it's the job, *stops before she says anything inappropriate as it's unprofessional to say what she was thinking next* er...it's the job. Umm...*pulls a card out of a hip pouch* Here, my card, if you want to talk about anything...relating to the incident, B-Sec also offers counseling to victims, if you find yourself having a hard time coping. *offers her best "smile"* Again thank you, made my life a lot easier. Um...I don't even know your name.
Nikita:
*looks up a little to take the card, reading it and flipping it over before looking up at the officer*
Ah...Officer Vak...Vakarian?
*somehow blushes more as she puts the card in a pocket, not sure if she should ask about the connection to the name or not*
I'm...Nikita...
*looks up at her, trying not to shy away from her gaze*
Nazira: *sighs* Yeah, and yes That Vakarian. My dad. Don't worry everyone asks, I'm used to it. *offers a hand* Well it was nice rescuing you, Nikita. I should let you go get fussed over by medics while I get chewed out for putting a civilian to "work." *wry chuckle* And I mean it, call me any time if you want to talk. *goes back to her squad and gets a few comments in Turian, that she snaps back about.*
Nikita:
*shakes the offered hand, a bit dazed either from the events of the day or being in awe, perhaps a combination*
Thank you, I hope they don't give you too much trouble...
*watches Nazira walk back to her group, realizing too late that she could have had her translator turned on. Snapping herself out of the daze, she shuffles off to where the medics were to let them do their job*
Nazira: *goes back to be debriefed, fill out massive amounts of paperwork, get chewed out for using a civilian, and tries to get out of her psych evals for the shooting*
Nikita:
*gets checked out by the medics and gives her information and account of what happened to the various personnel, morbidly amused that SI had decided to give them the rest of the day off as well as however long it took to clean up the offices. She wisely spends the time off by beating up her father, forcing him to teach her some self-defense techniques, and quietly cursing luck that she didn't inherit his biotics*
---
*her morning routine stays mostly the same, tiredly swiping her omnitool to gain entry, making a giant pot of coffee to horde for herself while she dives into her code. She panics when her omnitool chimes, tearing herself out of the simulation, despite countless training seminars going over the danger such action had. Checking her workstation, she slumps into the chair when it turns out to just be a meeting reminder, plodding through the rest of the day and trying to force herself to stay calm*
Nazira: *begrudgingly having to talk to the shrinks and is on a leave of absence because of it waiting to get cleared to go back to active duty, but using her time effectively to catch up on class work. Still hanging out in the normal haunts that CID and B-Sec frequent*
Co-worker: Almost think you did this on purpose Vakarian. Only six months left and you're a free female, and you're gonna spend at least six weeks on administrative leave.
Nazira: *downs her drink and narrows overly predatory eyes at him* It wasn't the plan, I promise you. *taps the counter to get a refill* Although worth it...there were some cuties in that office. I'd do it all again.
Co-worker: *snorts* Oh I think we all noticed what you thought of at least one of them. *nudges her*
Nazira: If you don't want to spend a couple weeks out on medical I suggest you don't do that again. *sighs* Yeah well...professional distance and all.
Co-Worker: *snorts* Right.
Nazira: *rolls her eyes and goes back to her drink*
Nikita:
*manages to survive the rest of the day without too much trouble, dragging herself back to the small apartment she had and collapsing on the bed, watching the lights in the room fade from one color to the next per their programming. Bringing up her omnitool, she punches out a short message to Nazira, not sure if she could bring herself to actually calling just yet*
"Could I bother you with meeting me somewhere for a drink?"
*groaning lightly to herself, she instantly regrets sending the message, too personal for someone she only met once in a crisis*
Nazira: *looks down as her omnitool buzzes and pulls up the message from a comm number she doesn't recognize. Reads and keeps her expression neutral to avoid having to deal with questions and types her back a message. "Of course. Coffee or something stronger?" *
Nikita:
*rolls over when the message chimes back, tilting her head a bit in surprise, she hadn't thought it would have been that easy. Stretching out on the bed, she types back a response*
"Much stronger. First day back at SI, didn't go so well."
*frowns at the message after it's sent, not sure if this was a good idea or not*
Nazira: *chuckles slightly and then wonders where the hell to suggest as she has no idea where the other lives. Pulls up a list of bars between SI and where she knows her apartment is and picks one at random and sends the address. "Here okay? If you know something more convenient that's fine."
Nikita:
*looks over the place sent over, smirking a bit and shaking her head. She'd never been there herself, but some of her co-workers had*
"That's fine, about a 10 minute walk from my place. See you in about 30?"
*she hopped out of bed and started to get ready without waiting for a reply*
Nazira: *read over the message and paid off her tap at her current bar.* Well I'm out for the night. *waves to a couple people she knows and then heads over to the other bar taking her time to let herself shake off the effects of what she'd already drank. Gets there with 10 minutes to spare and goes inside to wait at the bar close to the door so she doesn't get missed, not that that would be easy to do since she was several inches taller than most people inside.*
Nikita:
*does her best to freshen up, changing out of her work uniform and into a set of casual clothes for the night. Doing a quick check of her apartment, she heads out the door and makes it to the bar a few minutes early. She freezes in the doorway for a second when she spots Nazira, shaking herself out of it and brushing her hair aside as she heads over to join her by the bar*
Thanks for...meeting me here.
Nazira: *looks down and smiles* It's not a problem. *waves over a bartender* Whatcha' drinkin'?
Nikita:
*thinks for a moment*
Uh...something strong, and keep it coming.
*shivers and hugs herself for a moment before taking a seat at the bar, looking over at Nazira*
Nazira: *looks over at the bartender* I'll do brandy, she'll do whiskey. *glances back over* I was gonna offer to move to a booth. Little more private if you prefer. *slides over her chit to the bartender when he comes back* Just start a tab.
Nikita:
That...would probably be a better idea, actually...
*stretches and hops off the seat, watching her give the chit to the bartender*
You don't have to, I'd hate to drink you into a homeless shelter...
Nazira: Nah, it's fine. *leans over and whispers* Besides, best thing about my last name, most people take one look at it, don't look at the "N" and I drink for half price or free. *straightens up* A fact I try not to abuse to much. *goes over to a booth and lets Nikita sit first so Nazira can figure out how to arrange her legs without kicking the other woman too often.*
Nikita:
*smirks and shakes her head, following her to the booth and sliding into one of the seats*
You don't seem the type to abuse that sort of thing anyway...
Nazira: *sits on the other side and arranges herself.* I don't. *sips at her drink* So, you said it was a hard first day?
Nikita:
*downs half of her glass without much thought, laying her tail over her lap*
Yeah, just jumpy for the most part. Could have fried my brain with how fast I surfaced from my code-surfing interface...
*looks up at her*
How do you deal with these things?
Nazira: Training for the most part, friends, family, and a stiff drink when you really need one, but it's not always easy. Someone came into your comfort zone and violated it. They took away a place you felt was safe, not to mention made you have to think about your own mortality...and that's not easy for anyone to deal with, no matter how well equipped you think you are to deal with it.
Nikita:
Yeah, I spent the last week with my family, trying to chat with mom, beating up dad until he agreed to teach me some fighting stuff...
*smirks and finishes off her whiskey*
I guess it helps a bit, but I'm just hoping it gets better with time, honestly.
Nazira: It's a good start, and helps your family is close by. And yes time, lots of time, although it gets frustrating waiting for it to fix everything. I warn you though, thrusting yourself back isn't life isn't always the best way to help. Just because you can take that girl home at the bar doesn't mean you should. *pause* Or man. Either or, depending on your prefs.
Nikita:
They moved to the Citadel when mom was pregnant, and moved us all here with the migration. At least dad thought ahead on that, growing up on Omega would probably make this a weekly event...
*smirks and glances up at her*
I know, but for half of the last week I was just itching to get back to my project, it's frustrating. My preferences?
*blushes lightly*
Uh, well I...
*is thankfully interrupted by another whiskey, starting on it immediately before she said something she might regret*
Nazira: *nods* Never been to Omega, heard "interesting" things about it, never really had an interest in going. *downs her drink* I grew up in the last place you'd expect me too. *chuckles* I know what you mean, happened the first time I was out for a shooting. All you want to do is something, anything, and instead they make you take out your spirit and make sure you haven't turned into a psychopath. *snorts and notes how cute she is when she's embarrassed* I wasn't asking, it was just an example. I've learned not to pry into other people's personal business unless I get the feeling I've been invited.
Nikita:
The stories dad tells are about the same, though thankfully he kept a low enough profile to stay out of Aria's radar. *nods and swishes her drink around* Well, I've been working on that project for almost a year, so it's become a good portion of my life...
*smirks and takes a swig*
No, I understand. Guess I should watch what I'm saying, brain is a little overworked.
*leans back into the seat, sighing at the warmth of the booze*
Nazira: Mine obviously did not. *smirks and tries to adjust and knocks the table* Sorry. *chuckles* Good you have a goal, something that pushes you along. *isn't sure how that sounds because even with growing up around humans is still pretty bad at judging age and longevity treatments don't help that fact* Um...sorry if that sounded rude. *shakes her head amused* See you're in good company on the "open mouth, insert foot" front. Don't push yourself though, you may end up doing more harm than good. If you've got a hobby that you've put on the back burner, might be a good time to dig it out and let it help you work through the stress. Although the self defense classes are a good way to "take back the power" so to speak. *does her best air quotes* I could even show you a few things if you wanted.
Nikita:
*grabs her glass with one hand and the table with the other, doing her best terrified expression* Phew, thought I'd have to use the table as a life raft for a second there. *finishes her second drink and shakes her head a bit*
Eh, my hobby is just another coding project, but one I have to do at home. Can't use company property, NDAs, all that red tape...
*ears perk up at the offer*
You would...do that? I'd appreciate it...
*stares at her empty glass so as to avoid her gaze*
Ah...even though I did get dad's drinking tolerance I doubt I'd be in any shape for it tonight, and tomorrow there's a support meeting with my co-workers... So...would you be available sometime after Friday?
Nazira: Yeah yeah...trust me I'd do anything to be about four inches shorter sometimes. *snorts* You're talking to an officer in CID, I know all about red tape. Not to mention what I'm in school for. *finishes her drink and doesn't order another* Well good time to find a new one? A secret talent, if your current one just gets you down? *chuckles and thinks for a moment* I'm available pretty much whenever. I'm out on my tail until they tell me I can go back to work. I do have a class that meets Friday morning, that I was actually going to attend, but yeah, I'm at your disposal. *makes sure that didn't sound too wrong.*
Nikita:
*hesitates and decides not to order another either, comfortably warm but not at her limit*
Maybe, could go hang out at one of the docks and hold up a wall for a few hours...
*looks up at her in surprise, then down at the table again*
Is that because of me? I'm so sorry... Is there anything I can do? SI has a nice cafeteria if you wanted to get lunch?
Nazira: *blinks* I wouldn't mind hanging out a bit longer if you wanted. I just don't want to make you late for work in the morning. *shakes her head* No it has nothing to do with you directly. I've been in a couple fire fights in the last couple years, some on Galatana, and one here, get to many on your jacket all at once and they toss you out to make sure you're still mentally fit to carry a gun. Granted I've only got six months to go on my extension tour, but that's not the important part. Now if I was a marine they wouldn't care so much, but being a cop is different. They want to make sure that if I see some loser on the street screaming at his wife, I'm not going to whip out my gun and shot him dead. *mandibles twitch* I'd like that, to get lunch with you some time. We uh...just might have to hold off on that one though for a couple weeks.
Nikita:
*nods and toys with her empty glass*
Well, at least they look out for you. SI set up the meeting for tomorrow, mostly at the urging of me and the other co-workers, but beyond that they've pretty much left us to our own devices. At least their benefits package is nice, covers pretty much everything...
*gives her a mischievous grin*
Oh? Don't want to give people the impression that you're taking advantage of the -poor vulnerable corporate girl-?
Nazira: Ah, the benefits of being in a corporation, perks. *smirks* There really isn't a polite way to put it, but it is considered a big no no to spend to much time with a witness to a crime before it goes to trial. I might be influencing your testimony. Not that I think you'll have to testify anyway, the case is pretty much open and shut. Under normal circumstances though, especially when my uh...predilections are a known factor, I'd have never considered seeing you alone.
Nikita:
*smirks*
Yeah, well, when you're one of 4 corporations authorized to develop AIs, you need to try and retain your employees.
*nods and waves her off lightly*
I was just playing around, I understand. Not that there's much I could testify about, but I can understand why it might be an issue with other cases.
*quirks an eyebrow at her*
Oh? Why's that? Corporate henchmen not your type? Or would that be a potential conflict of interest?
Nazira: Good point. *shrugs a bit* Exactly, which is why I explained it. *smirks and lets her mandibles flick* Conflict of interest. *pauses* And...I've dated a suit before, they were a sales rep though, far more suitly. *looks her over appraisingly* You look far less suit, and a lot more fun, if you don't mind me saying.
Nikita:
*laughs a little too loud and shakes her head*
Well, fear not, I'm just a lowly programmer. I only wear suits when the suits are around. Anything I could tell you that would violate my NDAs would most likely be utterly boring to you, and anything interesting to you is probably common knowledge. I mean, tax evasion by funneling everything through Noveria? Oh, breaking story right there.
*giggles and tries to hide any potential blush*
No, I don't mind. My father might, but your name might give him pause enough. Or he'd want a shot at fighting 'The Big G'.
*shrugs*
Nazira: *chuckles* True, and I'm definitely not the person to talk to about programming. Sometimes getting in to my messages gives me trouble. *laughs* You know as a thought exercise I'd like to know what would happen to the crime rings of the galaxy if you blew up Noveria. Course you'd have to destroy Omega too...but it's fun to think about...until you realize the rampant chaos that would result. *snorts* Let the pater familias sort out our honor? *smirks* Course I haven't allowed mine to defend mine since I graduated boot and made it clear I was capable of making my own decisions, better or worse.
Nikita:
*tips her head towards Nazira slightly with a grin*
So I can imagine how thrilled you would be if I told you how our routing protocols are configured for internal network use and all that.
*tilts her head from side to side, pondering that for a bit*
Well, yes, but a lot of useful R&D comes out of Noveria. Not all of it as practical or legal as others, but that's about as much as I can comment. And we're just the -regulated- companies. Imagine what sort of horrors go on in places like Omega... Of course, I could just be biased since I work for a company like SI...
*giggles again and waves her off*
Oh, I don't know about -honor- so much, he'd just want an excuse to fight. It's...just the way he is. But I wouldn't worry about it too much.
Nazira: Yeah I can pass. I think that might be as interesting as all the forms I have to fill out when I fire my gun. *makes a noncommittal gesture* Fair enough, I just wish more companies were regulated. Then again corporate law is not my strong suit, so I barely know what I'm talking about. *chuckles* I hadn't planned on it. Unless it become necessary.
Nikita:
*puts on a pouty face*
You mean you wouldn't be dying to know what ports are open on our firewall or if we still use an archaic routing protocol like BGP or the latest version of it's successor, SSBGP?!
Though, I am kind of curious about the forms. How many do you have to fill out? One per shot? Five plus one per shot?
*smirks and wobbles her glass along it's rim in a circle on the table*
Nazira: *holds up her hands* I have no idea what any of that means. My specialization was negotiation in OCS. *lets out a breath* One for every shot in triplicate, and it has to be done on some archaic machine because they won't let you file them electronically. Everything has to be printed and handed in. Brass love their pretty paper colors. Then there's incident reports, and getting debriefed and asked the same five questions twenty times to make sure you didn't forget anything in your first five explanations of whatever it was that happened.
Nikita:
*grins*
You couldn't...say...program a robotic arm to fill out the parts of the forms that never change? Sounds about right though, our incident reports are probably similar, but they're usually all digital. Printed out if we need hard copies, archived on a server that's not on the network for safe keeping. But I'd imagine since we're a private company, ours never see the public light.
*shrugs and lifts her hands a bit, smiling at her*
Though, I'm sure "VAKARIAN SHOOTS GUN" doesn't make the headlines that often.
Nazira: Oh I wish, I don't think anyone wants to pay for that though. Yeah I'd assume something drastic has to happen for yours to come out, our jackets get pulled out whenever internal affairs wants to take a romp down memory lane, or they want to bring up our pasts in court. *smiles and shows teeth* Not this Vakarian anyway. Although some things I've done have made headlines, but I wasn't necessarily called by name. I'm just another face in the crowd, and I kinda like it that way.
Nikita:
Same for us, just without the courts. One of those 'performance reviews' the suits love to do in the name of optimization and whatnot.
*changes to an appropriate corporate voice*
"Your personnel file shows that some obscure metric isn't meeting a quota we arbitrarily set according to a tech article we stumbled across on the Extranet. We'd like you to stop taking bathroom breaks, it would save you time."
*smiles back and nods*
Fame is overrated in some cases, because then people have a name they can affix blame to.
Nazira: *chuckles* Sounds about right. "Work harder not smarter." *shakes her head* Why do something once well when you can do it over and over again. *sighs* Sometimes it's better being military they want you to work harder and smarter. *nods* Or people want to know everything about your personal life. Frankly I like what little privacy I get.
Nikita:
I find it ironic having that sort of monotony in a tech company like SI. Isn't that what we're coding all the time? Just makes me wonder who approves these ideas.
*smirks*
Nothing like being stalked on top of putting your life on the line, eh?
*fidgets with her glass*
So...not to pry into your life...but what kind of place does an officer like you land in?
Nazira: People with to much time on their hands. That's what I think anyway. *leans back and sprawls a bit on her side of the booth* No where overly fancy. I did two years on Edessan and then two on Galantana. That was my standard four, but I signed up for a two year extension, which means you get attached to B-Sec as a liaison generally unless you Really want more colony duty. I was pretty set on here though, haven't had to suit up nearly as much as I did on a colony world, and I've been able to get more schooling out of the way.
Nikita:
Sounds reasonable enough, probably more interesting than learning how to shoot people better, no offense...
*nods, gigging lightly*
I meant more of what hole in the wall they stuff you in off-hours, though.
SI offers a nice dorm complex for employees, but we can live wherever we want. Nothing too overboard since space is limited, but they pack some nice cushions in those 'closets' of theirs...
Nazira: None taken. *snorts* Ah. I have a pretty premium nest spot in the back "dormitory" in our offices, and sometimes I remember I rent a very empty and lonely apartment a couple sectors down. Not much in furniture, but I'm hardly ever there so I haven't seen a point in decorating.
Nikita:
*nods*
I know that feeling, though probably for different reasons. Some nights I just don't want to leave what I'm working in, but SI doesn't like paying for overtime unless they have to. Such as a critical deadline.
*smirks*
Nazira: *nods* It's mostly when you're working on a really intensive case or if you're on call for SWAT, there just isn't much of a point going home. If there's a call better to be on hand to suit up and get where you're needed. Save lives that way.
Nikita:
And even then I'm sure you still get complaints about response time. "I called 30 seconds ago, why aren't you here?!"
*shakes her head a bit*
Anyway, I don't want to keep you out all night, I'm sure you've got better things to do than babysit the poor corporate girl. Thank you...for coming out with me though, and for the drinks. I really appreciate it...
Nazira: Mhmm...everyone's a critic. *smiles* It's not a problem, besides it's what we're here for. Protect and serve and all that. *moves to get up* I can at least walk you back to wherever you're staying. I'd feel bad if anything else happened to you.
Nikita:
*gives her a sly smile*
Are you sure you can be seen with me? I won't get you in trouble for consorting with those 'evil corporate types'?
*gets up as well*
I appreciate the gesture, but you don't have to. It's not too far, and this isn't Omega.
Nazira: *snickers* If you're evil I'm the Imperator. You come off as maybe a little devious...but not evil. *stretches* I know its' not, but that doesn't stop things from happening. You have no idea how many incidents we get, so I'll just feel better getting you home safely.
Nikita:
You just haven't had much time to get to know me, haven't seen the horrors I put my code through in the name of progress. Maxing out integers, dividing by zero, calculating pi, pretty much a mathematician's nightmare.
*looks down for a moment and rubs at an arm*
Well...I guess I shouldn't decline... I won't make a habit of it though, I promise. You've got a station to keep safe, not fair if I'm taking up all your time.
Nazira: Yeah well, I'll spare you the horrors I've seen. *snorts* Like I said, I'm at loose ends for awhile, and a few more months and all Bastian's problems aren't mine for awhile.
Nikita:
*smirks*
Yeah, thanks. I've seen enough crime scene vid series, I like that my horrors are clean. Nightmares involving my work are usually nonsensical at best.
*looks up at her, quirking an eyebrow*
What are your plans after that? If...you don't mind me asking...
Nazira: Your code coming to life and taking you out to lunch? Going to work naked? The safe kind. *shrugs* I don't mind, it's kinda boring, but I want to go to law school and become an advocate.
Nikita:
*snorts*
Something like that.
*ears perk up a bit*
Oooh, fancy. At the very least that might get you off the streets and into safer positions? A nice boring desk job?
Nazira: *her turn to snort* Yeah if I wanted to do civil or corporate law. Nah, I want back into the fray and be a criminal advocate, try to get in with the DA's office here. I mean I like Palaven, and some of the colony worlds are nice, but I just...like being around lots of different species, instead of just one. Spirit of the Unit is nice, but...I'm just not cut out to be a Turian for the Turians. I kinda like everybody, ya' know. *shrugs* Sorry didn't mean to go on, I get talkative when I'm buzzed.
Nikita:
*giggles and shakes her head a bit*
No, it's fine. At least you recognize a shortcoming and strive to be better despite of it, better than most people I'd say.
*teases*
Should I worry about you saying anything inappropriate? I can sign an NDA for you if you'd like~
Nazira: I guess, but I'm also a bit of an outcast among my father's species anyway. I look mostly Turian, I act like one for the most part, but I'm only half, so I like a more macro outlook. *grins showing teeth* I think we can skip that for now. I don't think I've said anything too shocking...maybe later though, but that depends if you keep letting me hear that cute giggle of yours. *pause* Oops. Maybe to far.
Nikita:
Uh...
*blushes furiously and doesn't say anything for a few moments before regaining her composure*
Well...I doubt you'd jeopardize your case...but before the end of the night you'll know where I live, and you already have my number...
*looks down at her hands and fidgets a bit*
So I'll just have to trust that a fine officer such as yourself wouldn't take advantage of that information... ...Before the case is closed.
Nazira: You have my word. Although I should mention that your case it set to go before a judge next week. You'll be getting your summons if they want you to testify in the next few days. After that though, would you mind terribly if I abused certain information? Like...I dunno...asking you to dinner if you're amiable?
Nikita:
There's not any more I could tell them that I didn't already give that day, but I understand.
*blinks and pauses for a moment*
Sorry, I just realized I was waiting for you, but I'm the one that knows the way...
*leads her out of the bar and starts towards her place*
Ah, but as far as dinner goes...I might let you get away with it? As long as you don't plan on taking me to a Krogan restaurant, you naughty officer~
Nazira: *follows along after her and shudders* No I would not take you to a Krogan place...*ponders* I was thinking something along the lines of Human...or Human really. I figured Asari is for later. Much later.
Nikita:
*makes pondering sounds*
Human or human? Sounds like a complicated decision, I certainly don't envy your predicament.
*gives her a look*
Later? Don't get too ahead of yourself, I might be so upset with the first dinner that I'll run off to some other planet to escape you~
Nazira: I know narrowing down the species is just half the battle, now I have to figure out the subculture I'm going to treat you too. *eyeridge* Oh really? Hmm...if that's my options I'm going to have plan this very carefully...
Nikita:
Mhmm~ First impressions are important, one bad night and I'll have to skip out to...Sur'Kesh or something.
Nazira: Challenge accepted, although if you do end up on Sur'Kesh say hello to the giant bugs there for me. *smirk*
Nikita:
Maybe I will! At least SI wasn't the one stupid enough to try and resurrect an extinct insect species as a weapon. I wasn't aware that they'd moved into Salarian territory though...
*ponders*
Nazira: *snorts* I meant the native giant bugs, not the Rachni.
Nikita:
Yeah...probably harder to reason with them. Do you think they sell absurdly huge bottles of bug repellent out there? *grins*
Nazira: *chuckles* I think they'd have to as you don't want to do the Salarian route of dealing with them.
Nikita:
Well, Salarians are closer to amphibians so I'd imagine...eating them? Or maybe they put saddles on them! *giggles*
Nazira: Now that might be something I'd pay to see. Salarian cowboys...or would it be bugboys...
Nikita:
If they had an interest in tourism, maybe they could do some variant of a 'Wild West' show to attract other species.
Nazira: That...actually sounds horrifying. I think they'd be better off doing water acrobatics and the like.
Nikita:
*ponders*
Yeah...maybe that would draw the Asari crowd better...
*comes up to SI's housing complex, more or less right next to their corporate offices, but not directly connected*
So...ah...this is my stop...
*fidgets with her hands and looks down a bit*
Nazira: Mm. Probably. *stops and looks up at the building* Looks nice on the outside anyway. *clears her throat* Well I should let you get in and get some rest. *ponders any number of gestures then gives up* Well night. I'll ah, see you around. *turns and goes back where they came to her apartment*
Nikita:
It's not too bad, they at least put nice furnishings in the closets they stuff us into...
*looks up in surprise when Nazira turns to leave, chasing after her*
Wait!
*half jumps, half hugs the taller female*
Nazira: Hmm, *stops and turns not expecting the hug and takes a half step back to compensate before wrapping her arms around Nikita* You're welcome. *runs her fingers through her hair holding her tight*
Nikita:
Thank you, for hanging out with me, and buying me drinks, and walking me home...I really appreciate it...
*squeezes her tight for a moment before pulling away, blushing and pushing her hair to the side*
Can I...message you sometime, or should I wait for you to message me? I don't want to get you into trouble...
Nazira: Any time. *smiles a bit* Sorry, I just...I've always liked hair, it's soft and usually smells nice. *nods* Go ahead we'll just keep it formal and polite, and then after next week we can drop the formalities and see what happens.
Nikita:
*nods and smiles*
Hopefully dinner, if you're lucky~
Ah...thank you again. Goodnight, Nazira.
*waves and turns, dashing back to the door and stopping for a moment to look back, before slipping inside the building*
Nazira: I should warn you I am pretty lucky. *smirks* Good Night, Nikita. *watches her go back to the build and waves when she turns back before going back to her apartment*
