Nevada hummed a little as she looked at the trainees on the field. She was sitting up in one of the windows facing the field, and comfortable looking at them. unlike her previous encounters...she looked almost normal. Normal from a distance.
The closer you'd get to her though, the more haunting she seemed. She had been eating, but it didn't do anything to stave the crazed hunger for fear in her good eye.
Nor did it fatten the now thinning features. She still held her beauty, it was just...dimmed now. Dull. The dark circles were lighter though, and it was sign that perhaps there was a hope for her in the darkness she held.
She continued her hum, oblivious to anyone who passed unless they actually talked to her.

Sin walked across the hallways, sauntering as if he had nowhere else to go. He actually had stopped by the training fields for a bit to converse with some of his fellow trainees, and then progressed to the HQ building. He certainly wasn't in a hurry, far from it, he held a leisurely look on his face while contenting himself with a meat bun from his lunch..? Through one of the open doors with a room that overlooked the training fields, he caught sight of a familiar girl from behind. Recognizing it as somebody he was familiar with, he called out, "Nevada!" His all too cheerful tone showed his obliviousness at Nevada's problems that other people might have known about. He wasn't shy about entering the room, coming into close distance with her -- reaching out to pat her on the head. He hadn't seen her in a while, preoccupied with other things until he had finally come back to the HQ. "Hello there beautiful~'

Nevada's humming stopped at the drop of her name, her gaze turning to...a hand. It obstructed her view for just a moment, her eye squinting until it was gone and she was looking at a familiar and very handsome friend face.
"Sin~" She sang song quietly, though it lacked a well...certain muster. Not because she wasn't happy to see him, but because she couldn't manage much.
"Did they take the vision from your other eye? The only one that still call me pretty are Ian and Otto." Because one was her best friend and the other her..lover. She realized it might've sounded rude, and she hoped he would take it as teasing.
She hoped a lot of things.
"Are you finally home?" Well obviously, since he was here but...she wondered if it was a stop on his way to another mission.

"Not this time." With a point to his uncovered eye, he winked at her. If she was worried about him becoming offended, she shouldn't have been. He wasn't, per say oblivious, as much as he didn't take those types of remarks ever to heart. And Sin could easily banter with her twin, Alaska, and compared to Nevada - Alaska had a much sharper tongue. Her latter half of the sentence caused him to frown inwardly, but he still kept a smile on his face. "From the sound of it, I like these Ian and Otto guys already." He wasn't sure if he had met them yet but whoever couldn't see that Nevada was beautiful would have to take it up with the Sun hunter. , Sin checked his cell phone before replying to her query, "For a while, yes." He hadn't missed the lost pounds on Nevada's fame, dark circles beneath her eyes, or her dimmed personality; very different from the young girl who had challenged him on the training fields months ago, ready to kick him on his (fine) a** if he underestimated her. Brushing back her hair, he kneeled down until he was eye level with the young hunter. "What's wrong? Anything you need to talk about?" His gray eyes lit with concern.

"Another day, Save your eye!" She teased again, "Oh? Well Ian is a very good friend and Otto is...I love him very much." She blushed a bit and then looked down at her hands.
Her gaze faltered on his, looking anywhere but directly at his face.
"You don't know." Of course he didn't know, because he hadn't been here. She looked at him and then one more time away.
"I'm dying." She clutched her hands, "I might be dying. Most likely dying. Pretty soon."

"Dying." He repeated. He wanted to laugh it off as a joke in poor taste, to convince Nevada to say that she was just kidding with him. But when Sin tried to speak, the look in Nevada's eyes caused his throat to constrict. Those weren't the eyes of somebody who believed they had a future. He had seen those eyes reflected once in the mirror. Now they were reflected in somebody else.. pulling a hand away, curling it in frustration. Helpless was an apt word for his feelings right now. His tone was deliberately kept light. "Why do you say that, beautiful? What happened?" The doctors are Deus were competent. If it was an illness, they woud have found a cure. If it was her contemplating suicide, Sin would have found that unlikely as she had the presence of somebody she loved and friends. Standing up only to sit beside her at the window, Sin took a moment to partake of the same view that Nevada had looked at moments before he arrived. What had she felt as she watched the activities? Sin couldn't even contemplate it.

"It's not hard too..." She looked up at him, as he joined her in the view of the healthy and weapon fulfilled hunters. "I was on a mission. Halloween creature attacked....it destroyed Leroy." she clenched and unclenched her hands.
"A hunter doesn't survive long without it's weapon Handsome. It does something to us. Breaks us. Breaks our souls." She tried to keep her tone light. "I thought I was only half a soul when Alaska left me, now I'm nothing. Nothing but this empty vessel waiting to burn to ash."
She moved her hands up to rub her eye.
"I don't know how long I'll have, if I have time. I don't know anything about this. I'm 19 and i'm dying." She laughed bitterly, "19 and experienced more then any teenager should. Any person should. And I'll die knowing that."

He listened patiently, his eyes growing more and more shadowed with grim realization as she finished her explanation. He looked for signs of her weapon, yet it wasn't there. She was speaking the truth. "Trust Deus to give the literal meaning to soul mate." He laughed bitterly to himself. It was the first time he was hearing of this. Then again, most of their comrades died on the battlefield through fatal wounds. Statistically, hunters didn't outlive their weapons. When a weapon expired first.. well, Sin was seeing that firsthand, wasn't he? 19. She was only 19. Even he was older than her. In retrospect, she was barely more than a child. It wasn't fair. It wasn't fair for life to take such a young person away. She had only glimpsed life. She had already lost an eye, but even then, Sin had hoped for her. She had people who loved her, regardless of her appearance. She still had yet to experience all that love had to offer, the memorable or silly things, the heartbreak yet infinite happiness that one would find traversing down the roads of life. As long as people lived, they could always find themselves with new experiences -- for better or worse. Yet they also lived lives of soldiers. Perhaps he would die tomorrow, or the next week. Wrapping his arms around her from the back, not as a lover but somebody who cared very much, he had to cherish the fact that he could speak and talk to her right now. "You're not going to die with just that knowledge. You'll die knowing that you were loved. Otto, you said his name was? And Ian and me, we would do anything for you." Sin even wished that he could die in her place, if only he could. 'Do you view your life as less worthy than that girl sitting beside you?' Undine's voice intruded upon his thoughts. 'What if I were to say yes?' 'You foolish, foolish man.'

She didn't laugh with him, looking back out the window and contemplating the worth of having a soul mate forced on her. And then taken away.
When his arms wrapped around her, she didn't stiffen, she accepted it and brought her hands up to hold on to them. Before long, she wouldn't be able to feel these anymore. She wouldn't feel hugs, or affection or love. She wouldn't feel human.
"I don't want to die knowing people love me." She let her head bow a bit, "I don't want to die knowing I'm leaving people I love behind. I don't want to die. It's unfair, It's so cruel." She whispered. "I wanted to die happy and peacefully. Married to a man I loved with all my heart and with children and grandchildren. And even coming here, I wanted to die happy and peacefully. Not breaking everything I was away from me." her breathing started to hitch, small droplets of tears started to fall, hitting Sin's arms. "I don't wanna die, I'm so scared, I don't wanna die. I don't know what's waiting for me."

His heart broke with every word that she spoke. It broke with a gravity of pain that he didn't even know existed; indeed, part of him knew how dangerous this job was when he initially joined but when it actually occurred, he hadn't realized how much it would hurt. There were people who invited death, people who were resigned to death, which Sin could accept but there were also people who didn't deserve to die. His arms tightened around her, listening to her silently. Listening was the only thing he could do -- why couldn't he do more? It was frustrating how painfully useless he was, clenching his jaw in unsaid emotions. He didn't cry but the emotions conveyed through his eyes was enough. "Haha, so you're that type of girl..." He forced a laugh to try and cheer her up. He could see Nevada in that scenario.. growing up in a peaceful house, with little children who vied for her attention. Unfortunately it would only remain a dream and never a reality for her. But her words sparked a realization within him. "You're not going to break everything. Even if you leave me, our connection will always remain." He brought up her hand backwards to his lips, placing a gentle kiss on it. "You're scared.. I can understand that." He turned her around, cupping her face in his hands. With his thumbs, he wiped away her tears. His words were surprisingly calm despite his inner turmoil. "You'd be angry at me if I threw away my life right now to go with you, wouldn't you?" Alaska, her twin would probably kick him a lot for that too. "So I won't say I'll do that. But I want to ask, can you wait for me Nevada? I won't know if it's tomorrow, a week from now, or even years- but I will join you. You won't be alone in death." "So even if you're scared now, cry as much as you need to. You can yell, hit, and do whatever you'd like to me. Because the next time that I see you cry, perhaps it won't be in this lifetime, I'll make sure you cry tears of happiness."

"I wish I was that type of girl..." She tried to chuckle with him, tried to make it light. It came as a soft sob, and she could face him with that sort of half assed facade. She wanted to be normal, and she never had been on the Island. Never had been off the Island. She wanted those kids and a white picket fence and husband who would look at her, and only her and think how lucky they were that they found each other.
She desperately wanted to cling to Sin, desperately wanted to crawl and latch herself around that 'connection' because it made sense to want it too, to never lose it. It made her heart ache and curl and fear, because when she was dead, to her there was no more connections. Wouldn't people move on? Would people look back and say, you know remember that time with Nevada? or Hey you know Nevada did this too...or I really even just miss Nevada. She hated that she was petty but how strong were connections?
She couldn't hide that face anymore, and even though she knew it was ugly, her face tilted up to meet his. It was hard not too, when she saw so much in him that she saw in herself. "I'll punch you in the face." She whispered, "And in the afterlife, I'd punch you in the face, even if you are handsome afterlife sin." Why would he die for her? Why, no, she would never want that. To take him, such a bright spark in life, someone who...who made her feel whole and normal. no matter what he saw of her, he never turned away. Didn't get scared. Someone she cared for. (How deep did she care? Did she love him? had she loved him? She didn't want to lose him, she didn't want anyone too.) Did he love her? Was she selfish enough to ask that? She couldn't even ask Otto for that, and she loved Otto. Did she love Otto, she had too, she chose him didn't she? or was it the emotions, the high of death. The desperate attempt to be with someone even in her final days. Was this a desperate attempt too? But Sin wasn't asking her now, he was asking her in the future. When life cycles repeated and came too. Not even Otto had thought that far, but she had never asked him too. She never would. Never could. Why was it easier to ask Sin? Why was it easy to accept it from him?
(Don't let me be alone)
(Please don't let me die alone...)
(Please don't let me alone anymore..)
"Wait for you..." Her hands came up to his, resting them on theirs and she closed her eye, let the quiet sobbing fade. She was quiet just a bit more, and she waited. She felt. Tried to feel, but all she could do was feel. Someone who wanted her even after she was gone? To find her again? "I hope it's years." She whispered and the crook of her mouth turned up, "I hope it's longer, but I can wait for you." her hands laced over his, squeezing. "I'll wait for you..." Nevada repeated, "because you promised. Because I'll promise you, next time I see you, I won't be crying tears of happiness, I'll be laughing and smiling for you."

He realized her unspoken need, picking her up and sitting on the windowsill where he first found her. She was sitting in his lap, and he held her quietly, his unspoken body language telling her that he would accept whatever she wanted to do. Even if she wanted to sniffle and cry into his shirt, which he considered to be a great privilege. He didn't hold all girls in this way after all.
He did't care if Nevada was desperate or lonely. It didn't matter to him. He knew her attachment to Otto yet it didn't dampen his own feelings for her. Nevada had made him realize a depth of emotions that he hadn't known he'd badly needed. It was strange at how much he realized it, only now, when she was on the verge of death. But because he desired her happiness, he could stand to see her together with whomever she chose. Even if it wasn't him.. Their unspoken words conveyed that he would never make her go through the painstaking process of choosing between people. When had he become such generous idiot, he didn't know, but Nevada had definitely inspired that.
A relieved smile touched his lips at her reply. Someday, in the far future -- maybe centuries later, she would choose him. That was all the answer he needed. One hand pulled her close to him, hugging her even more deeply against his chest, while his other hand warmly squeezed her hand in response. His whispered words were soft enough for only her to hear even if somebody had been eavesdropping, his breath fanning her delicate shoulders: "It might take a while," He tilted his head with an amused smile, "I've never been known to be on time for much.. But I never break a promise. So make sure that when I arrive late, you'll have to properly reprimand me."
"It's a promise." He touched foreheads with hers, sealing it with his words. "And I would say I have a pretty good start, considering you're already smiling. Wouldn't you agree?"

It wasn't hard to pick her up, with the massive weight loss, the fraility. She didn't fight it, because even in this state, the one thing she always seeked was the comfort of others. Their heat, bodies, softness, hardness. It was funny how all she ever felt was herself seeking when their was people like Sin and Ian and Otto and Stormy. Had it taken coming to the Island to find them, find the ones she loved and cared for?
She felt strange, because she loved Otto, she really did. How could she not when he was everything she had needed in a friend, and then had been everything she needed in a lover. But she had rushed him, coerced him into being with her because she was on her deathbed. The guilt, of allowing Sin feel this way, but the joy of knowing, before she passed just lodged herself into her heart. Stayed there with a deep understanding. Words didn't put her feelings together like she wanted, so she didn't say anything else. Didn't ask, didn't tell. She let him hold her, because it was the last time he would, and it was the last time she could be held.
But she knew without a doubt, in the far future, when she could be that normal person? When she could be just Nevada, or whatever her name was at the time, she'd find Sin. She didn't break promises often, and not when they really mattered, and this one. This one she would keep too.
She burrowed her head into his chest, her green eye, not obstructed by her bandage would meet his blue one, lighting and he was right. In that moment, she knew the deal was sealed. That red string of fate was tied together and brought their fate together in the future. She'd find him, because she'd be looking for him.
"I'll find you, and give you a good scolding for taking your time. It'll be worth it, for however long it takes..." She laughed again, bring her hand up to wipe the tears. "It's hard not too with you Handsome. She rested her head on his shoulder. It was hard to think for once, she might have something to look forward after death. But she wondered how long that optimism would last. How long till that ray of hope broke and she was devoured about her darkness? She shuddered a little, tucking herself closer into Sin and letting the moment be. For one blessed moment, she just wanted to be.
