Okay gang. We've seen Silent Hill (the movie) which, in my opinion, captured the atmosphere and feeling of the games. The second one was, also in my opinion, a complete train wreck of a film and I regret that it was ever made.

The saddest thing about Silent Hill 2 The Movie is that it may have single-handedly destroyed the chance of Hollywood making a movie within the Silent Hill Universe, but outside the Alessa story.

In the games SH2, Downpour, Homecoming (and maybe the Room) seem to exist, for the most part, outside of the Silent Hill that is affected directly by Alessa. Especially 2. With everything we've expereinced from game to game, the Silent Hill Universe is really an unfathomable amount of parallel universes. Arguably, with the parameters established by Silent Hill, a screenwriter/director could have an absolute field day navigating an original character through their personal version of the town.

Or is it impossible to capture that one-on-one experience of the game in a film?

Thoughts?

Despite its massive continuity errors in connection with the first film I did enjoy Revelations to some degree. Did I love it? No. Did I hate it? Not really. I feel like it could have been better if Christophe Gans directed the sequel like he did the first instead of Michael J. Basset directing. My major problem was that Basset said it would be a sequel first and an adaption of the games second but that turned out to not be true. He lied to fans of the original film and of the games. So many continuity errors that made it look like the first film ever happened. He completely destroyed the films canon in favor of his own. That made me not like Basset as a director, but I still liked the film. I thought the set pieces (besides Lakeside) were nice and how aside from the cgi mannequin the effects were practical like the first film and I adored the original soundtrack they made for it.

I agree about the soundtrack! It's excellent. Man, the whole franchise, games and movies have epic music. I've never been disappointed with it. I listen to the soundtracks a lot, actually, while I'm working. I dunno if that makes me creepy or not...

Well just to throw my opinion on the chopping block, I think Silent Hill's first movie was the biggest fluke of the two. When I watch it, I get the feeling the director couldn't decide if he wanted to go with a completely original story, or mimic the first game's story... and in that I think he just ended up with a mix of both for the worse. The second movie, while many things incorrect with it as well, had more similarities with the games than at least the first did, and it seemed like more effort was put into the development and research of the 2nd movie.

As far as "the part of Silent Hill that Alessa controls" goes, the entire town is afflicted with her darkness.... or.. was.... So in that respect, Silent Hill 2 definitely took place in the same Silent Hill, just a different part of it as it is noted there is an Old Silent Hill and a New Silent Hill divided down the middle almost. Mostly the ending of Homecoming took place in Silent Hill with the bulk of that game taking place in Sheppard's Glenn just across the lake from Silent Hill.

The interesting one out of all those listed would be SH4. Because it did in fact at many times take place in locations OF Silent Hill... but these locations are basically Mirror Images of the real thing but within another world or dimension. As the mantra states in the game "It is a world within our lords world, but without our lord". Walter's previous rituals allowed him to create a visually similar world but within his own control and creation.

With the movies, I had been hoping for more in the long run. I am happy, for the most part, with what I have seen but, like others have stated here, I would have been much happier with an original story and new twists. Instead we got "barely scraped by" versions of live action Let's Play videos.

In my honest opinion, the games are way better than the movies. heart

Silent hill 1 movie was indeed great while silent hill 2 movie was okay.

Besides, whether silent hill 2:revelation was a good movie or not, I don't want to see another silent hill movie being made. I think that 2 movie is just about enough.

I still want to see a movie version of Silent Hill 4. I don't necessarily want a live action one like they have been making, but if they could just make a really nice CG full length movie rendition of SH4 I would be happy with no more movies after that.
