Kjell ||
He didn't like the new arrangement. Not at all. He and his brother had been seperated and that small fact bothered him more than anything else. His mother had left him and Kraken on the border of a land they knew nothing about filled with strangers that seemed to know too much about them. Then they were forced apart and set up with whomever would take them. His guardian was an outsider like himself, and had no personal investment in the drama that supposidly surrounded he and his brother's sire. His name was Vilkas. And he talked funny. HIs tone was bouncy and his voice gruff. He had an easy, laid back air about him and had what most would consider the patience of a saint. To a cub, he seemed downright lazy.

They were promised visits... but it had been days. Perhaps he was to get settled in first, perhaps he was lied to- he didn't know. Either way, he was frusterated and restless.

"Come oooooooon." He flopped over on his side and leaned back, craning his neck. Vilkas turned his head, lifting a lazy eye to regard the cub. "You've been napping forever."

Vilkas ||
"I just got back. The sun's not even moved." Vilkas countered.

Kjell ||
"Forever!" He declared. "Come on, this is boring!"

Vilkas ||
"Who's lit your a** on fire? Give me a sun mark. Just one."

Kraken ||
Kraken basically liked his new home, except for the part where he couldn't spend time with his brother in public. He would have liked it a lot more if he could do that. But he had gotten to go around the pride with Tomi to be introduced to some of the other lawspeakers, which was interesting. And he'd gotten to go up on the cliffs, which was amazing. He wanted to take Kjell there the first time they got to visit. Which would be today! He was so excited he practically danced in place, earning him an indulgent smile from Tomi.

Kjell ||
Patience might have been his guardian's virtue- but it wasn't his. Kjell rolled to one side. Huffed, then rolled to the other. After a few more huffs- which went ignored- he got to his paws and padded over to the large lion. Vilkas continued to "sleep" even as the little cub rammed his head against the older lion's head, jumped on his mane, and began tugging at his ear with what might have been a growl.

He continued his assault for nearly two more minutes before Tomi and his charge came within sight. Abandoning a now very soggy ear, Kjell rolled over himself, caught the ground, and tore off in their direction. "Kraken!"

Vilkas groaned and rolled to his belly. With a long, wide yawn he rose to his paws and shook out his mane. He'd sleep. Eventually. Maybe the cubs would wear eachother out. "About damn time."

Kraken ||

Hearing his brother's voice, Kraken's ears angled forward and he completely cave up on listening to the warnings Tomi was issuing. Blah blah blah. Don't get hurt or kidnapped and if anyone asks whose cub he is, tell them Tomi's his father. Like he hadn't heard all those things all the time.

"Ja, sure," he said before racing toward Kjell and abandoning Tomi to his own devices. He didn't care if Tomi followed or not. It was much too exciting to see his brother after all this time.

When he was close enough he pounced his brother with a wordless exclamation of glee.

Kjell ||
Kjell was effectively pinned. Previously, this would have ground on his nerves but currently he could care less. He pawed at his older brother's face, faking a pitiful little growl. "You sentimental sot! Lookit you! I thought they'd haul you off and dump you in the waves."

Vilkas ||
Vilkas rose up to his paws and woke himself up with a long, wide-mouthed yawn. Shaking his mane out, he padded over to the wrestling little cubs. He couldn't help but smirk. It was a shadow of himself and his own brother not too long ago. Heavens now he felt old.

He looked up to the law speaker and offered him a nod. "Good day. Got your paws full, have you?"

Kraken ||
"Thaaat's not what they do with unwanted cubs here," Kraken said, smug with knowledge his brother didn't have. "Tomi told me they're either thrown from a cliff to be crushed on the rocks or left out for the ghosts in the forest."

It wasn't that Tomi was so inappropriate. Kraken had asked. He rolled off of his brother and onto his feet. "Want to go look at the cliffs? They're really, really high."

Tomi ||
"Oh, it's fine," Tomi said with a sly smile. "Particularly since they're your problem for the afternoon. I have to go witness some cubs' naming."

Kjell ||
Kjell would have gone pale had he not had fur. The cub looked mortified and curled his paws up against his chest and a verted his eyes. He wans't sure what was worse- being a smear on the rocks or being left to be devoured by the devils in the mist.

As his brother rolled off, he cast a concerned look over to Tomi then trailed his gaze after Kraken. Was he serious? They throw cubs off there and they want to go see them now?! He rolled to his belly and stood himself up. "....they're not gonna huck us off are they? I mean... they want us right?"

Vilkas ||
" Sounds like fun for the two of us." The male snorted. "Very good. Is there something you've been working on? I've...admittedly not been doing much with my little one. He's grown quite bored."

Kraken ||
Kraken followed his brother's gaze toTomi, who was smiling politely at Vilkas without answering any of his questions. The cub watched as Tomi repeated that he had some cubs to watch being named and slipped away, leaving the big scary lion in charge of both cubs.

"Yeah, they really do. But I think they want us. Maybe. It's confusing," he told Kjell, then he walked over to Vilkas, who was apparently in charge now. "Can we go look at the cliffs? I want to show Kjell how high they are. It's really cool."

He tried to look charming and adorable as he asked, but his success was probably limited. He was too young to realize that big, strong lions didn't often succumb to the cuteness of cubs. He would have to learn a new tactic for manipulating people in the future.

Kjell ||
The cub rolled over to his belly and frowned, watching the exchange between the two adults. When Tomi left he sighed, assuming the worst of his own guardian. They rarely did anything fun. Vilkas rather liked sparring here at the cave. Though... it couldn't be called sparring really. More like instruction while the lion stood there and took the cub's attempts at blows. Still, he had seen very little of the actual pride's territory. Vilkas' only excuse was that he needed to learn how to defend himself at home before testing himself away from it.

His brother's inquiry was met with a tight grimmace. He wasn't entirely sure that he wanted to see the cliffs, especially if bad cubs were thrown from them.

Vilkas ||
He glanced over to the youngsters with a resigned scowl on his face. So he was to be a baby sitter. Wasn't that what some had thralls for? Then again, Kjell had been worried sick about his brother since their seperation. Perhaps some fresh air with him would help tithe him over until the next visit.

"I guess we could do that. But... before we go anywhere, I'm gonna insist on a little bit of a wardrobe." He pointed between the cubs. "Pelts for your back, Kjell, and Kraken, you're going to have to get some war paint on, possibly a headband to break it up a bit. Any objections?"

Objections? Of course Kraken had no objections! Warpaint sounded like it would be ridiculously fun. He didn't really have any thoughts on the headband matter, but he was willing enough. Still, he didn't want to seem too eager, so he restricted himself to a mostly casual nod. Yeah, sure, whatever, he was trying to convey.

"Is it true that different designs in warpaint mean different things?" Kraken asked. It wasn't something Tomi or anyone else had told him, and he didn't even know if it was true since he'd just come up with the idea, but he figured if he phrased it like that he would sound less ignorant. He wanted to impress his brother, since he hadn't seen him in at least forever.

"Do you wear warpaint when you go viking?" he continued. "Am I even allowed to wear it, since I'm not a reaver?"

Suddenly he realized that he was ignoring his brother, though completely not on purpose, and tried to think of a way to bring him into the conversation. He came up with absolutely nothing. Drat.

Vilkas:
The older lion glanced down to the two youngsters. His problems for the day. From freeborn to glorified cubsitter. There were worse things he could be doing at least. His charge might behave a little better down the line if he indulged him a bit. Perhaps a little walk about wouldn't be bad. He'd heard a few tales here and there of the place- two in particular that he could show to gain good behavior out of the cubs at the risk of becoming splatters at the base of a cliff or an angry spirit's lunch.

"Ah... I'm not yet a reaver." He admitted easily. "Perhaps when I go viking I will. I've not bothered to ask- but yes, the paint does mean something; but used on context. I don't see any harm in it. If anything, we can say you're learning to be a proper reaver early on."

He turned back to his cave and began pulling odds and ends out of the small corner where he kept those sort of things. Pelts, bones, some trinkets he'd found here and there... after a time he managed to locate a jackal's pelt- which was about the right size for Kjell, and a scrap of old fabric- which would hide at least part of Kraken's forehead. No luck with paint though.

" Alright, come on, let's try these on."

Kjell ||
The cub wrinkled his nose and glanced to his brother. Dressing up sounded... lame. "...if we do, then can we go do something? I don't wanna stay here all day! We'll get bored."

He brought a paw against the side of his mouth and whispered over. "He's as interesting as a wet rock..."

Princess_Feylin
Sorry for the delay. It's not been an easy month, I needed to get my head back.

"I don't think I'm going to be a reaver. Unless someone else trains me to it. But I do want to learn to fight!" He grinned at his brother. "Then I'm going to kick butt all over the place."

His enthusiasm dimmed markedly when it seemed there would be no warpaint. Just wearing someone else's smelly hides and fabric scraps didn't seem like much fun. He'd probably look like a vagabond or something. Not that he knew the word vagabond, but the concept was there.

"Really? Tomi's kind of fun," Kraken replied, speaking softly. He was surprised to learn that about Vilkas. The older lion looked so frightening with those markings around his eyes. But he wasn't even a reaver, so that probably was pretty boring.

He looked dubiously at the fabric and poked at it with one paw. "I have to wear this?"

Thalion
No worries. I am in no hurry.
