Classes were canceled for the day, and while most students would enjoy the time off, Lianna was not overly pleased. It meant time alone in her empty apartment or the library studying, both of which were getting to be more than a little old. She was restless and needed to do something. Anything. It was too early for the clubs to be open, though that was a welcome thought for later.

Perhaps a short run near the campus...

Pulling on her favorite boots, even if they weren't the most practical foot gear for running, well at least she'd look good. The weather was warm enough she wouldn't need more than a light wind-breaker, and the sun was shining, it was a good day for a run, even if it wasn't necessarily by her choice. She texted her driver to pick her up at the the apartment and drop her off near the college campus, and to take the rest of the day off. She would make her own way home after the run, and if she decided to do something else, well her schedule was open and she could do whatever she wanted, when she wanted.

Done with the class that he was scheduled to take those enrolled in the Pre-Medicine course for the day, Boaz gathered up his teaching materials and started down the path that would take him out of the Sovereign Heights Prep School campus and towards the nearby car park where his car was located. It wasn't often that his day ended as early as this but it was a welcomed aberrancy in his schedule despite the amount of effort he had to put in initially when he chose to take up the offer to teach the pre-college students on a monthly basis on top of a similar appointment that he already had with the medical college at Destiny City University.

Walking down the path, he found himself musing inwardly that it was a nice day to be out and about with the sun overhead and an occasional light breeze to keep the temperature comfortable. It was the type of weather that was perfect for a nice and long walk or run even and he could only lament that he didn't have his running gear with him at the moment nor in his car.

Well, no matter, he could always see about doing a few rounds around his apartment as soon as he got home later in the day.

I hope that this works. Feel free to have her trip or stumble in front of him or something... ^^;

It wasn't an uncommon sight, to see students running around the campus, and while running wasn't a normal activity for Lianna by any means, the day was absolutely perfect for running. So she thought why not? A short run, followed by a nice ice-cold frappachino in an air-conditioned cafe.

So, disregarding the fact that her footwear was completely inappropriate for such an activity, and refusing to call her driver to bring her shoes that were made for that purpose and would help prevent any unfortunate accidents, she took off, starting with a slow jog to warm up. Once around the main building and off towards the car park. From there she planned a four block or so route that would take her past her favorite cafe.

She had just began the run, making her way past the car park, when it happened. By it, it is meant one of the most awkward and graceless face plants of all time. Her left ankle started to buckle and twist, not because of a hole in the ground or even a rock that got in her way, but simply her body acting out against her. Then came the flailing and windmilling arms. That brief moment she thought she might just have done enough to regain her balance and then face met pavement.

It was bad enough that she fell. Even worse that it was busy, and there were at least fifteen people who witnessed her less than graceful moment. She didn't know which hurt worse, the injuries- scrapes on her face, palms and legs, possibly bruised ribs, and something wrong with left ankle. At best it was just a mild twist, but with her luck, it was probably worse.

Boaz had dumped his teaching materials on the back seat of his car and was about to get into the driver's seat to start the car when he saw Lianna flail and fall. Shutting the door of his car, he pushed the button on the remote to lock it then made a dash towards where she was. He could feel the eyes of the many on-lookers around them as he approached the blue-haired girl. Most of them were curious as to what had just happened and the extent of her resulting injuries though not one approached with an offer to help at all.

Paying no attention to the unwanted attention around them, he closed the distance between him and Lianna, ceruleans taking in the state she was in and trying to figure for himself if that was truly the extent of her injuries given the mechanism of the fall. She was lucky that there weren't any deep gashes that would require stitching but the scrapes on her face, palms and legs would still need to be properly disinfected and patched up.

"That's a real nasty fall that you sustained back there. Think you need some help getting to the infirmary to have someone take a look at these?" He asked with a kindly smile on his face as he gestured towards her injuries that were plain for all to see.

That was mortifying. More than the pain of the scrapes and bruises. To be seen in a moment of clumsiness, it was a blow to her ego. And that more than anything was what bothered her.

She knew better than to expect any of the people milling around to help her up or offer any assistance. It was just the nature of people. She herself would be unlikely to offer assistance to someone she witnessed fall. At least, unless they were very obviously injured, which she was not, or if she knew the person in question. So she could take a moment to catch her breath, gather up whatever shards of dignity she had left and find her way to somewhere she could call her driver to come pick her up so she could go home and lick her wounds and recover outside the public view.

At least that was the expectation. And she was ok with that. It wouldn't be a big deal. Even if the injuries sustained were more than superficial. She could take care of herself. But then she heard a kind voice and an offer of help.

Blue-grey eyes looked up, startled.' I'm not a student here so I doubt the infirmary would treat me.' She hissed as her ribs screamed at her. She had definitely bruised the ribs, if not possibly something worse. 'But perhaps I should go anyway.'

'I would really appreciate the help.'

One could only imagine how embarrassed the young lady must be feeling at the moment, having taken such a dramatic fall from grace before so many of her peers in a public venue and no less. The fall could be attributed to her footwear or sheer carelessness resulting in a misstep on her part. Boaz didn't suppose it mattered in any care so long as she didn't hit her head or became unconscious as a result though getting her to the school infirmary to tend to her injuries was certainly topmost on his list of priorities at this point in time.

"Even so, surely it would be reasonable for them to make an occasional exception for someone who is obviously in need of some medical attention." He attempted to reason with her when she informed him that she wasn't affiliated in any way with the school. He didn't think that they would be refused entry if they turned up at the infirmary's doorstep with her bleeding and limping and all.

If push came to shove, he would simply identify himself as a part-time teacher with the school and use that particular reason to gain her entry. When she eventually relented and decided to accept his assistance, he crouched down to slip an arm around her back, his other arm stretched out towards her in the event that she felt it necessary to grab onto him to help pull herself up.

"Pardon me then Miss..."

'Lianna. My name is Lianna.'

Perhaps he was right, and they wouldn't turn her away. It's not as if she couldn't reimburse the clinic for the time and supplies... and it would be much easier and quicker than calling her driver to come get her and bring her to the hospital. Left arm and hand crossing her body to offer support to the aching ribs, she took the proffered hand and slowly got to her feet, swaying slightly as blood flow was restored to normal levels.

'Pardon me,' she murmured as she nearly fell against Boaz.

She winced as her weight settled on her left ankle. But she didn't stumble or fall again, which was a plus. But she wasn't sure if she would be able to hobble to the clinic on her own. Her pride reared its head as she considered the fact that she would need to ask for help.

Asking for an arm to help her balance, and maybe as a support, would be less embarrassing then having to be carried, which might happen if she stumbled and fell again.

But then, he slipped an arm around her. He offered help without her having to ask. 'Thank you.'

"Boaz. Boaz Crawford." Boaz introduced himself as he slowly helped Lianna up, his hand still around her waist to keep her close so that she could lean on him should she feel the need to. There wasn't any hidden motive behind all of his actions. Just a pure and simple desire to help someone who was injured in line with the Hippocratic oath he had taken as a medical professional.

"You're welcome. Is there anywhere else you're hurt by the way? Anything that may warrant a trip to the hospital?" He asked, watching her closely to see if she was able to do the same as he took a small step forward in the direction of their intended destination. It wasn't likely that she broke anything from the fall but one could never be certain with these things at times really.

She winced as she lifted her foot and then the weight as it was placed back down on the ground. Walking was not fun. It hurt like hell to have to lift her foot and then place it back on the ground with the force of her 165 pounds behind it. This wasn't good.

'I would say it's nice to meet you... but given the circumstances, you'll have to forgive me for not.' Her ribs were definitely aching, and making it difficult to breathe properly.

'I think most of the injuries are superficial, scrapes and a twisted or sprained ankle,' she assessed with the rudimentary knowledge of injuries and first aid she had picked up over the years of living alone and watching medical dramas on the television. ' There might be something with my ribs... I'm not sure...'

'I think whatever is closer might be the best alternative.'

"Point duly noted with no offence taken Lianna." Boaz nodded in acknowledgement, offering her a wry smile as he took another step and watched how she attempted to hobble along. "We should be able to take care of all that at the infirmary." He reassured. The list of injuries she had supplied him with were all well within his expectations so far. The mention of something with her ribs, however, wasn't and he made a mental note of that to himself lest it turned out to be something serious that needed to be addressed later on.

"It's likely a contusion given how bad that fall was but if your ribs are going to be a cause for concern, you'll need to make a trip to the hospital later to clear it with an X-ray." He talked her through his thoughts on what might be the cause of the discomfort at her rib cage, addressing her as if she was one of his patients back at the hospital. "The infirmary it is then. Just lean on me and let me take most of your weight off of your foot." He suggested, focused now on getting her to the infirmary as soon as possible so that they could begin the process of patching her up proper.

Lianna felt ridiculous hobbling along, using Boaz as something of a human crutch. She must look quite the sight. This really couldn't be much worse of a day. The next time she considered doing something like this again, she would think twice about it. And she would make sure she was appropriately attired. She learned her lesson about footwear and running in crowded places where she might make a fool of herself.

Still, hobbling she was under her own power. And if it took a shoulder to lean on, and more time than usual, she would make it to the infirmary with her pride and dignity mostly intact.

She took careful note of his words. She would take the time to go to the hospital later. She really didn't want to have something serious wrong and leave it to only get worse.

'Thank you for your help.'

"You're welcome." Boaz allowed Lianna to set the pace that she was comfortable with, leaving her to her thoughts for now as he smiled and nodded appreciatively at the people who had considerately made way for them the moment they saw them coming through. "The school infirmary is just down this corridor." He informed her quietly, not wanting to distract her overtly from what she was doing at the moment.

Lianna kinda lucked out in this regard. Had the incident taken place on the other end of the school campus, he would have offered to get her to the hospital with his car instead. A less painful yet more reasonable option compared to what she was doing now to get herself to the infirmary.

Although their progress was slow, they finally arrived at the school infirmary after another couple of minutes where, as Boaz had predicted, the attending school nurse quickly ushered them to the nearest bed without even bothering to check if they were affiliated to the school or not. "Just a little more now Lianna..." The blond encouraged her as he helped her with the remaining few steps that would take her to the bed where she could, if she chose to, ease herself onto and then take a much needed breather.

It took all her concentration to stay standing, to put one foot in front of the other and to just keep breathing normally. She didn't see the surroundings, so she couldn't at least offer a nod of acknowledgment or thanks to those who went out of their way to stay out of hers. Though it was probably more due to Boaz than her, it was the principle. If someone did a good job, or something nice, they deserved to be recognised... at least that's what she had always been taught. And it had worked well for her.

Though the infirmary wasn't ridiculously far it definitely seemed like it was. And she would admit, if only in the confines of her mind, that there were several times she would have given up if not for the words of encouragement.

When they reached the infirmary and were ushered over to the nearest available bed, Lianna sank onto the soft surface gratefully. Anything to be off her ankle, which by this point was throbbing so one could almost take her pulse by it.
