The adventure seemed to be grinding to a halt. On the first few days of Sam's time away from his clan, he was tolerant, patient, eager to hunt and content to sunbathe. He blasted through the mountains, tearing up any creature that he may even slightly perceive as a threat. And when he was done, he returned home to his cave with his three loving and attentive pets. He kept them fed, played with them, napped with them... But now, after just a few days with just his animal companions as company, the Gaili was pretty sure he was losing it.

He wanted someone he could actually talk to and understand! Azure's, Phalfa's, and Ruei's chirps and squawks were cute, and Sam comprehended their meanings to a degree, but he wanted actual conversation! He wanted Levi back! Wait, no. Okay, kind of, but not really... No, of course not really! He was just desperate for a little Khehora attention was all! As his mind shifted to thoughts of the feathered Diabi, he knew he had to get away from his pets. If only for a while. Using his earthen magic, he fashioned separate cages for his three pets (Azure did not take kindly to this), before he set off flying through the air on his own.

The sun was starting to set over the horizon, bathing the mountaintops in glorious oranges, reds, and yellows... Sam smiled as he surveyed the mountainside. It was rather lovely. But then, something large and purple caught his gaze. It hopped along, despite having wings, as it moved away from a crook in the mountainside. Something was there. Something that predators weren't supposed to see. Naturally, Sam was intrigued. He glided down, landing lightly and sniffing among the rocks until he caught a strong whiff of bird. He followed the smell, and it led him to a nest. A nest with a single red baby... thing looking back at him.

It could be too young to take from its nest. Sam didn't know anything about it. But that had never stopped him before. He carefully scooped the small thing into his arms. Maybe a new baby would help distract him from his missing Diabi companion...

Step 2: Taming

Rolled: 15 Re-roll with Second Chances = 96
Outcome: Success!
Words: 317

Sam brought the tiny creature back to his cave, cradling it the whole way. He was a bit surprised that it didn't fight or try to attack him, but then it did look pretty small and young compared to the creature he'd seen hopping away from the nest earlier. So maybe it just didn't know any better? It blinked up at him with its small, dark eyes and let out a low chirp. Sam could only grin in response. Like all of his creatures, he expected it would be easy to manage once he'd fed it a few times. And since the mother creature had built the nest so far from plant-life, it must be a hunter. Good! He had a few scraps laying about in his cave from earlier kills. But... Azure sure wasn't going to like this.

And Sam was pretty much right. He'd hardly landed before the sounds of his vlidean's screeching echoed from the depths of his cave. Even the young argaroo perked in alarm before desperately trying to borrow deeper into Sam's arms. It wasn't a good start. When Azure physically spotted the new creature, she tipped her head back and howled, high and pitifully whiny. Sam had spent enough time with her that he was pretty much used to her cries, but that didn't make them any less annoying.

He probably should have gotten out of her sight, but instead he wanted to see her feeding this new little one. She needed to get used to the idea of having more friends. So Sam fed the little thing left over scraps from his kills while Azure, Phalfa, and Ruei looked on. The argaroo devoured the offering hungrily, and if Sam wasn't careful, it would even pinch at his fingers... But by the end of the meal it was content to sit in his lap and glower at the puffy blue vlidean.

Step 3: Training
Win: 50-100 (-5 for Drakeins, +5 for young Argaroo bonus, +10 for Feeding Meat) 40-100
Rolled: 51
Outcome: Success!
Words: 338

The days seemed to move a little quicker with the young creature to care for. And before long he was able to release Phalfa and Azure around the argaroo, though he still supervised them carefully. Phalfa would even play with it, swishing her long tail feathers back and forth for him to chase. She trilled in delight, and the red argaroo chirped and hoped gladly after her. The first real problem didn't come until Azure was resting in Sam's lap, her head tucked beneath her wing. Phalfa was resting on a rocky perch, leaving the new pet desperate for attention and probably bored. So when a sizable insect fluttered in through the cave, heading strait for Sam's face, the young argaroo pounced. "Hey!" The Gaili snapped as the red male clamped his beak around the bug and viciously shook it.

Sam wasn't sure whether he should be slightly disgusted or awed. From where he'd been sitting, it looked as if this little guy could be a pretty good guard... Maybe when he was bigger he could even face larger creatures... He stuck out a hand to pat the red bird on the head. "Aren't you a little Spitfire?" Sam cooed. Maybe he should take it outside for a bit more formal training... He plucked Azure from his shoulder and set her on the ground. "Stay!" He commanded, while leading the newly named Spitfire outside.

The young argaroo was willing and eager to learn, and Sam realized very quickly that it would attack just about anything that made a dive for him, even rocks. So, using his magic, he shot small round pebbles off. Sometimes at himself, to see if Spitfire would leap at them. Needless to say, for the first few days, Sam allowed himself to be pegged a few times. But as the argaroo grew in size and speed, it not only displayed a boost in stamina, but also a stronger will to defend the Gaili. Almost as if he thought of them as family or something...
