Colorful feathers rustled in the breeze, black tendrils of hair intertwining in his plumage. Zebediah lay content within his nest snoozing off and on in the warm sun. A feather fluttered over his ear, tickling him, causing his ear to flick every now and then.

Most of the time, Zeb was a solitary creature, keeping to himself. His personality kept most others at bay. Because of his unapproachable demeanour, he found himself kind of lonely, but of course, it wasn't his fault. It was everyone else who had the problem.

Zebediah stirred but didn't awake. His ear flicked as the breath from the mare's soft whisper tickled his ear. He snorted and rolled a bit, his feathers dangling down over the top of his head.

The loud abrupt sound startled him awake. "Hmph? Huh? Whaaaaa--" he grumbled, half-awake. Once he realized that he wasn't alone in his little hole, his quickly opened his eyes and raised his head, to find himself staring straight into the eyes of someone else...someone who should not be in his house. "WHA- WHO- " he stammered, getting to his feet. He cleared his throat and shook his head, his feathers and hair rustling and tossing from side to side. "WHO do you think you are, barging into my home and interrupting my sleep?!" he growled angrily. He was not happy. He hadn't really heard what the mare had said to him while he was asleep, but he wasn't really concerned. He started walking towards the mare, hoping to guide her towards the outside. He didn't want others in his home, especially others he didn't even know the name of.

"Too many questions." he mumbled, still walking forward, still waking up. "Why are you in my house?" he asked, a little less grumpy. Apparently this female thought he was her friend, for some reason unknown to him. Friends? He didn't have any friends. He'd done fine without them until now.

"Friend? Name? Cave? Fly?" he repeated...trying to make sense of all this commotion. "Pretty!? Of course I'm pretty." he said, picking up on that. Any praise sent his way was of course welcomed. "Name is Zeb, Zebediah. And yes, this is my cave, well, I don't call it a cave, but I guess that works. I made it myself, yes. And I can sort of fly. Not very well, but well enough. You ask a lot of questions." he huffed, but secretly, he was intrigued by this female as she seemed to be quite an interesting specimen.

"Kaya was it?" he asked. "You always talk that fast, ask that many questions this early in the morning?"

Zeb's head was spinning with all the questions and chatter flying at him. "You sure are a spunky thing...." he mumbled, trailing off. He gave up trying to get her out of his nest, and just walked around her. He stepped outside the nest, and went a few feet, stretching his body out in the sunlight. It wasn't long past midday, as the sun was just starting it's turn towards set. He felt a pang of hunger, and as he thought about it, he heard Kaya's stomach rumble as well.

"No, there are no critters in there. This is my home. I live here," he replied, "by myself" he added with emphasis on those two words. "You couldn't eat me if you wanted to. I'm more than a mouthful that you wouldn't want to eat. Taste too stringy." he mused, going along with her joke.

He couldn't help but chuckle at the mare's catchy little song about him. "Make that up all on your own did ya?"

As she got incredibly close to him, he stepped backwards. "Woah, woah woah WOAH! Not so close." he said, furrowing his brow. "Fly? Nah. Not right now. Not in the mood," he replied. "I am, however, extremely hungry, so I'm going to go find some food." He began walking away towards his usual dining spots.

Zeb rolled his eyes. "As if I would let you eat my feathers." he mumbled.

As he trailed off from her, he heard her behind him, calling out. "Come if you want, but I'm not waiting. Breakfast awaits." He led the way to a small grove of trees where a very delicious fruit grew. This was one of his favorite foods and so he came here fairly often. Many of the fruit were low-hanging so it was easy to get to them, but after eating all the low-hanging ones, it became harder for him to reach them. That's when his wings would come in handy.

He walked around, looking for some of the fruit low enough for him to reach. There was a couple that he saw he could reach, but they weren't ripe enough to eat. Higher up, he saw a plump juicy one that was calling out to him, just ripe for picking. "Well, it seems you'll get to see me fly today after all." he said as he stepped back a few steps for a running jump. He ran forward and jumped, flapping his wings as fast as he could. He hovered there for a second and stretched his neck out to grab the bottom of the large round fruit, pulling it off as he lowered himself back to the ground.

Zeb found himself in the position to toy with her a bit. He sat the fruit on the ground without biting into it. "Hmmm I don't know. These fruit are really special. You have to prove you are worthy to eat them." He watched her curiously. "Do you want to prove yourself?" he asked, narrowing his eyes at her.

He chuckled at her enthusiasm. "Ok, well, you have to run around the trunk of the tree three times really fast, then stop, close your eyes, stick out your tongue and try to touch your nose while balancing on one front hoof and one back hoof. Think you can do it?" he asked.
