Sun Hunter
SHADOW RUN

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
General Information
The Shadow Run is both the simplest and most dangerous training course that can be run without a golem. A flurry of continuous attacks is what the Sun Division holds in highest respect, and the course reflects that. The course itself is a simple tunnel, reached via portal. Within the tunnel await hundreds of weak, hungry shadowlings. Nothing to worry about on their own, but capable of overwhelming a Hunter through sheer numbers at the first moment of weakness. At the other end of the tunnel is another portal, leading back to the course observation booth.

If you fail: your character is KO'd, but there's always a senior hunter in the observation booth with enhanced bandages at the ready. They should reach you in time. Really. Trained and trusty professionals on-hand 24/7.

If you win: peen points and bragging rights to those who take out the greatest number of shadowlings and go the most turns without needing to attempt a recovery maneuver.

    Mechanics
  • You must get through 5 waves of attacks to make it through the tunnel.
  • Simply roll for attack as you would in battle.
  • If you miss, your character falters in their attacking and is overwhelmed by shadowlings.
  • After 3 successful hits, you may use your weapon's charge attack.

    Bonus Mechanics
  • This bonus is consumable.
  • The bonus in this course is in the form of "recoveries" ~ these are would-be missed attacks that are quickly recovered and turned into a successful hit. Basically, they can miss once and roll again for an extra try. If you keep consecutively missing, though, and run out of recoveries, it's lights out. These do not equal an automatic pass for a round, you still have to land a successful hit to proceed.

  • Trainees: 0 recovery
  • Sun Trainees: 1 recovery
  • Hunters: 1 recovery
  • Sun Hunters: 2 recoveries

It had been some time since he had gotten to run through the training courses again, first with Chester being out of commission, and then power being down. But now that Chester was back and power was up again, he decided to take advantage of that fact. Plus, with leave temporarily revoked, it wasn't like he could go anywhere... asides from more HH patrols and such.

Taking a deep breath, he summoned Chester, and eyed the tower wearily.
You ready?

Don't worry, I know what I'm doing. Besides, I need to work on my offence.

After that last spar with Sherry, he really needed to up his game.

Lowering his weapons, he frowned slightly. He didn't really want to put Sherry through such an ordeal, but perhaps it WOULD be better if she was here, in case anything happened. He also promised to keep her in the loop about stuff, so it was a promise he'd have to learn to uphold.

Pulling out his phone, he sent a text to Sherry:

GrnGriff
Text to Sherry: Planning on doing sun training course. Did you want to come too?

Texts from Jake were the most welcome of texts. Even one simple as the one she was reading right then.

She was grinning just a bit as she typed out a reply.

[A.V.]
Text to Jake:
I would love to! I'll be at the tower in a few minutes.

She could always use more training. Always.

Text to Sherry: Ok, I'll be waiting!

He should not be this excited to be putting her in harm's way.

Text to Jake:
^_^ <3

She fired off a quick reply and set out.

She was still smiling as she sauntered up to the tower, keeping an eye out for Jake. She was planning to find him, then hug him, then totally get through this course faster than he did.

"Hey!" Was she happy to see him? Yes, yes she was.
PostPosted: Sun Mar 09, 2014 10:17 pm

Jake was still puzzling over the strange-looking face (at least it sorta looked like a face) and wondering what the thing next to it was (a rat without a tail?) and the meaning behind suh a strange cryptic message when he heard her voice, and looked up.

No, don't tell me, I want to figure it out myself.

He would have smiled, but the text was bothering him, and so with furrowed brows, he stared at the text for another minute or so, before finally giving up.
"Sherry... what does this text mean?"

Sherry came to a stop next to him, deciding not to hug him just yet. He looked to be very deep in thought. She was fighting the urge to peek at his phone (it could have been super secret Death stuff) when he finally asked for her help. She could totally help decipher---

The very text she'd sent him. "Oh," she said with a laugh. It was one part amusement at the look on his face, and one part shame for having sent him something he didn't understand. If she'd have been thinking clearly, and not like a giddy schoolgirl, she might have remembered he's not too text savvy. But she hadn't. She'd just fallen into habits she used with others and confused him.

"The face," she tapped the phone above the ^_^, "is happy and means 'ok' and 'I'm happy'. And the sideways heart," she pointed at the <3, "means... 'I'm glad' and 'I love you'." Might as well be blunt about it. "Basically."

She smiled at him, then added, "What did you think it meant?"
PostPosted: Sun Mar 09, 2014 10:54 pm

His face flushed at the laugh, knowing he had probably asked a stupid question, but at least he was learning to ask questions, which... was an improvement. Sorta.

When she explained the text, his frown seems to deepen. So, he was right about his hunch on it being some sort of face, albeit an extremely impractical and somewhat creepy expression. Closed eyes definitely did not take that shape, and having the mouth in a thin straight line conveyed more of a tense expression rather than a happy one. And to be honest, he was pretty sure he'd pull a muscle in his face or something if he tried to mimic it. Definitely not something he'd consider happy. The sideways heart, though, he kinda saw. It made much more sense than a rat. Unless the text had been about her being stressed out over seeing a rat, which was something he could now rule out, as she had pretty much deciphered the strange text code. What kind of people USED these things? So impractical and confusing.

Yah, and pretty confusing.

Sherry's question interrupted his rebuttal with Chester, and he only stared blankly at her. She... probably didn't want to know he thought she had been freaking out about a rat.
"Um. I love you?"
Way to change the topic.

If only Sherry knew just what Jake had been thinking. She might have laughed, sure, but she would have seen his point, his reasoning. She would have laughed and hugged him and told him how adorable he was.

Instead she furrowed her own brow. "Is that what you thought it meant, or are you questioning my use of it?" She could hear that question in his voice, she just didn't know what it pertained to.

Oh shoot. Way to go Jake.
"I-I'm not, really! AndIthinkweshouldgetthistrainingstuffstarted Armagnac's probably itching to hit things."
And by "things" he knew he himself was pretty high up on the list if he didn't flat out make the list, but this was training for them both and they really should get started.

Sherry stared at Jake. He was rather adorable when he flustered. He was also treated to one of her most girlish and loving smiles. "I should hope you're not."

Reaching out to take his hand she nodded. "She is always itching to hit things. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to let her."

He smiled back at her and gave her hand a squeeze.
"Then let's start, shall we?"

Letting go of her hand, he turned his attention towards the tower, weapons raised as he prepared himself, and then swung, clearing a good number of shadowlings. GOD how he missed his weapons.

"Of course." Sherry smiled back at him.

She followed him, watching him a little wistfully as things got started.

You'll enjoy this, too.

Armagnac hummed a little in Sherry's head as she was summoned. The sound became a pleased roar as Sherry stepped into the tunnel after Jake. The shadowlings fell, and Sherry had to admit it was a bit invigorating.

As another wave came, he swung, pleased as they dissipated on contact with his blade. For once, he had an advantage, and even Chester had to admit this was a nice warm-up for future missions to come.

He turned around to see how Sherry was doing.
"How are you holding up?"

"Not too bad," Sherry said in reply, watching as a pair of faded to nothing at the end of her blade.

Armagnac didn't think things were going well at all. There were so many shadowlings, and she'd barely touched any of them.

Sherry did her best to ignore the ranting.
"You?" she asked Jake. "Found your stride with Chester?"
