Maddy made his way to the Demon Dorm's common area with a will. His latest assignment was due tomorrow, and he still hadn't been able to come up with a proper topic to write about. If he didn't think of something soon, the professor would kill him. Worse, so would his parents, as soon as they realized his grades were slipping. So, notebook and pen in hand, he passed the first of several chairs, only to stop short.

A familiar raum demon lay sprawled like a Screesian (read Persian) rug at his feet. The cait sith eyed him with a tilt of his head, and then bent down. "Well, what have we here?? Xavier, wasn't it?? ... Are you going to lie there forever?? You don't smile much, do you??" Neither was Maddox though, a slight scowl to his features as he sized the fellow demon up. Reaching to his side, he pulled out a permanent marker, one of several he carried on his person when sketching or otherwise artistically involved, and deftly drew two upward curling lines on the other boil's cheeks.

"There," he grinned at his handiwork. "Now you look quite cheerful, you're sure to be in better spirits soon." None of which was helping with his assignment, but he wasn't really getting anywhere anyway. And so for the moment, he placed his notebook aside to chat with the boil.

Xavier was laying there half because he had tripped and fallen and had yet to actually scrape the pieces of his pride together again and stand up, and half because he was pretty sure the floor was where he belonged and where he should stay.

Needless to say, he did not expect someone to come and poke at him, let alone try and scribble on his face with a marker. Xavier turned his head to stare morosely at the boil crouched next to him, and he was vaguely familiar, though his name escaped Xavier.

"I'll just lie here forever," he said melodramatically. "It's where I belong, after all. The floor and I are old friends. Just leave me here to die."

Well that was no fun. And it was likely grow worse if he didn't remedy the matter. The cat eased himself back, tail flicking as he pondered the raum's words.

"Have you ever thought to make new friends?? ... Like me, for instance??" He smiled and winked as he leaned in. "The name is Maddox, by the way."

He paused a moment, realizing that the 'smile' the boil wore, was slightly uneven at one corner. It nagged at his senses, and he shifted his eyes instead to Xavier's clothes. They were far from pristine, but not terribly shabby for common demons, he supposed. "You know ..." he piped up. "I could make you a stunning outfit if you need it, something that would really accentuate your fine points." Though he wasn't certain how long that would last, if the boil insisted on always making friends with the floor. "A boil always feels their best when they look their best, is the family motto. It might cheer you up, hmm??"

There was a long pause.

"I don't have any friends."

Maddy didn't really have any friends either. He had family, and even colleagues, which he understood was a privilege most scareling didn't possess. But they were not the same. Friends were ... well, he wasn't quite sure, to be honest. He knew they supposedly shared secrets with each other, and stayed up late together snacking and watching skellyvision. But those things seemed so preposterous.

This boil, he looked pretty shabby, and was more than a little difficult, though the cat supposed he could be just as difficult himself. And for some unknown reason, a small shred of understanding in Maddy tugged at him to say something he didn't typically ask of anyone.

"Well ... Xavier, would you consider accepting me as your-erm ... first friend??" He was trying not to sound as nervous as he felt.
