A few days had passed, not many, perhaps only two or three, he couldn't tell, but the time had been longer than he had expected to stay in these lands. Truth be told, not all of Kifunguo's time had been spent with the lioness, as he had wanted to avoid suspicion from her peers, including the Goddess who served over these lands.

To the others in the area, a black snake would have been seen coiled in the brush and sand. Not that he made a point of allowing himself to be seen, much less in between transformations. This night, however, he donned the guise of a lion once more, and waited near the back of the den for Nisija to return. Kifunguo knew not what she did during the time she spent away, but he knew better than to leave in this form without her by his side.

Her mind ached, the shadows dancing in the corners of her eyes in a dizzing fashion, even as the dark fell around her. She moved lethargically towards the den that she was currently sharing with her odd companion. She couldn't deny that it was nice to return and have someone waiting for her, but it was also odd. Her companion...well...he was strange, but she supposed she too was strange.

As an alchemist, she spent a lot of her time constructing potions to keep monsters away, and other ailments. She had never found any potions to help her, but she had managed to find some to suit others. It was mostly numbing salves, taken internally. It created a haze in the mind of the one who needed it, and drove away the monsters. However, it seemed no matter how much numbing salve that Nisija took, she couldn't drive hers away. In fact, it often made it worse.

Tonight she wished for it to work though. She stumbled when she reached the lip of her den, blinking tired eyes into the dark. "Kifunguo?" She whispered, not sure if she was scared to scare him away, or to give away his presence to the rest of the pride. She wasn't ready for the pride to take her only companion from her, not yet.

There was a lot of things that had happened to bring him here. He had no way of explaining why it was he waited for a mortal lioness to return when he simply could have found her, or why he risked being seen just to speak with her again. His ethereal soul ached for the attachment that had already begun to grow, pulling him forward without knowing his paws were moving.

"I'm here, Nisija." He rose from his resting place, and moved forward, a spirit in the shadows. There was no smile for her, no glow in his eyes like family or a loved one to welcome here. All that was was how it appeared; a husk of a God, and a shell of a mortal. "Come and rest." His face moved towards her direction, "How was your day?" That was normal mortal conversation, right?

The sound of his voice startled her, for a moment she had thought that he would be gone when she returned and was waiting for the aching silence to greet her like it always did when she returned home. She blinked her eyes quickly, dispelling both the shadows lurking and adjusting her eyes to the darkness. His figure was hard to spot in the darkness, but a small smile grew when she saw a familiar movement in the dark. It wasn't a monster this time.

It was a friend.

"It was ok," Nisija said softly, moving further into the darkness and letting it swallow her. "I made some potions for people." They rarely spoke to her though, just asked her for things and then left. It was quite sad, but still.

"What did you do today?" She asked. "Sorry I was away for so long." She had wanted to get home early but dare not risk suspicion by leaving work too early.

Her approach was a mixture of her personal scent, and the salty air that came with living near the shore. Awaiting her arrival was easy for the patient God, but having her close was...somewhat unnerving in its pleasantness. "What types of potions? Were they difficult to produce?" Knowing little of her work, or what pride lions did in general, he was generally curious.

"I stayed close, lest I was seen. I took great pains to stay hidden, but it's only a matter of time before I am discovered." Even going about as different species would only help him for so long. One look, one careful eye, and it would all be unfurled. "Do not apologize for something such as time. You need it far more than I to finish your projects." After all, her amount was far shorter than his, and he would rather she spent it on activities that pleased her than around one such as he.

"Tell me, what do you know of Gods?"

She moved further into the darkness, sitting as close as she dared to her companion. It was not that she was afraid of him, weirdly enough it was not fear that kept her distant, but her own desire to be close to him. Everything she touched broke though, so she would keep her distance.

"Mostly numbing potions for those who ache," she explained. "They are not hard to make, merely time consuming collecting all of the herbs required. I like it though. It gets me out of the pride's center for a while."

She nodded, feeling sorry for him that he had to stay so close. "Perhaps tonight we could walk in the darkness, and I could show you some of the pride while the others sleep? You would not be discovered." She refused to believe that he would be discovered. They couldn't take him away from her, not now!

"Gods?" She frowned. "Well...not much...I haven't seen many in my life." She tilted her head. "Why?"

From beneath the veneer of his disguise his wings itched to stretch. As a mortal in form, however, he could no more stretch them than he could fly, which was odd. So instead he rolled his shoulders, resembling a creature with stiff joints. "I would like to experience some of them for myself one day...though I could not repay you for the act." He had nothing to give her, save for his company. "I could help you collect the ingredients you need, however."

He turned to her then, a small smile playing out on his features. The one thing about him that he had not changed save for the state of his eyes were his extended canines; even now they brushed his lips as he smiled. "I would like that. Then we might discuss...Gods." Kifunguo shook his head. How would he speak of a subject he could not hide? "It is...a passion of mine to study them."

Her heart fluttered a bit. He wanted to help her? She liked that idea. It wasn't as if her family had not been close, but she felt very isolated at the moment and the offer of not only friendship but help as well, well that made her spirits soar a little bit. It was very girly and strange.

"I'd like that," she admitted quietly. "I'd like that very much. Whenever you what to do that, that's what we'll do." She would do it right now, if not for the night hiding many of the plants. Plus, it would spoil her plan to show him the pride if they had to leave it to hunt down plants.

"I don't know that much about them," she admitted. "But I would not be offended if you wanted to talk to me about them. I would like to learn," she admitted and smiled slightly, though he could not see. She felt as if he could sense the smile though, as surely it came across in her voice. "Would you like to go out now?"

Forgive me! ;o; Late tag is laatttteeee.

"As long as I am here, I will be at your side to assist you how you see fit." It wasn't as if he could do much within the pride itself without being caught, and he did want to help her, which was odd. Kifunguo did like to help others, but they...they never seemed to accept it, unlike Nisija.

"Ah," His voice was low and slightly disappointed. Were the mortals not telling their stories anymore? Would they even believe in the Gods, had some not been traipsing about in their faces? "If you would listen, I would like to speak of them." Kifunguo gave a little twitch of a smile. She seemed to be pleased as well, from the way she spoke, and it made his bones a little warmer. "Yes, lead the way. I'll be able to follow your voice."

As he rose, he knew it to be a lie. Kifunguo could follow her voice, but it would be the noise made by her bones that would lead him.

Nisija felt her cheeks flush a little at his offer, and for a moment she was glad that he was blind because she was sure that her expression would give her away. She was coming to rely on him, which was a terrifying thought. Absolutely terrifying.

"Ok," she agreed shakily, knowing her voice would give away her nervousness but unable to stop it from doing so. "Follow me," she said, trying to guide him without actually physically guiding him. He seemed confident without his gaze, and so she doubted that she would have to lead him very much.

Stepping out into the cold, crisp air, Nisija felt her nerves shiver in nervousness. The shadows around her danced with fear, but with her friend at her side, she felt calmer than she normally would walking out into the darkness. She smiled slightly.

"I'll show you the outer bits of the pride for a while, just to make sure everyone is asleep before we go too far into the pridal center," she suggested, leading him towards the beach front to show him the limits of the pride.

She seemed a little less solid than she had a few moments ago which concerned him. Was she ill? Kifunguo hadn't been able to smell any illness or infection, but then he had always tried to keep as much distance as possible between them.

The God rose to follow after her, moving in on the pretense of not being able to see her when his shoulder brushed her rump. Even he hadn't thought he was that close, but no matter. He couldn't smell any disease, so it was either something far worse internally or...

"You've thought of this before." That or she was a very well thought out lioness. Either way it was a pleasant surprise. His thick paws made indents in the sand as he walk, and the feeling of a tufted tail swaying behind him was a worse feeling than being without his wings. "I am...sorry to have burdened you so."

She shivered a little when he brushed against her. Something was intriguing about him...something that felt dangerous, but not in the way that usually terrified her. Rather, it made her want to be closer to him, to know what it was that scared her. She was not a brave female, she never had been, but the way he made her heart race was rather intoxicating at times. She flushed and stared at her paws, woefully embarrassed by her own giddiness around him. She was like an adolescent! Except she had never been so intrigued before, not at any age.

"Ah yes," she had to agree. "I don't...much like people." She offered a pained smile, though he would not see it. An attempt to pretend that her words didn't mean more loneliness. She often took to the pride in the cover of darkness, avoiding the people who would call her crazy. "You haven't burdened me," she assured him quickly, and it was true. If anything, he had given her a reason to do more than simply gather and create potions. It had been a while since she had done something new.

"Then you and I are one in the same." Kifunguo smile a little freer. Although he could not see the pain in her expression his was one of true comradeship. There was little he didn't see in this lioness that couldn't have describe him, or his actions. It made him feel alive to be around her, which was an odd feeling. His heart both raced for the thrill and out of sheer panic at having grown attached to her.

Staying as close as he dared, the disguised God began to speak. "Then let me tell you of of Gods. The most important concept to understand is that they, like mortals, start of youthfully blissful in their own Haven..." As they walked he would continue to lecture, growing more animated as he spoke. It was the closest he had gotten to sharing his world with a mortal in his entire life, and it made Kifunguo realize how much he cherished his own world. He didn't see the heart ache, death, despair and war.

Then again, when he looked at Nisija, he realized there was more beauty in a fleeting moment than in stone trapped for an eternity.

And that he rather liked.
