kuroopu Let's do it... ;D ;D no homo Bix was just leaving a beach patrol when he got the text so the Sun hunter made a beeline for the buildings, headed for the cafeteria. It was bumping at this time of day and made it easy to blend into the crowd but not so easy to find a seat. Bix loitered around the outer edges of the room until a pair of hunters got up to leave and he slid in (thinking he was pretty slick) before anyone else could.

Gale just sighed at the text and didn't respond.
When he reached the cafeteria, it was easy to spot the white haired man among the rest of the hunters, and Gale headed straight towards him, unable to stop at least a small smile from quirking his lips upwards. Say what you wanted about Bix, he was still one of the best people Gale knew.
Even if he was also one of the weirdest.
"Hey, stranger," he said, sliding into the chair opposite of Bix and grinning. "Long time no see."

With the table between them, crushing hugs weren't an option, so Bix just grinned and thrust his hand out to shake in normal, proper man-greeting. "Busy busy life, yeah?" The last time they'd talked Bix had been on the edge of a (thankfully avoided) breakdown. It wasn't like much had changed but time had passed and it had been enough for the Sun to just put it all past him. That was what he was best at. "So whats up bro? You wanna snag some food real quick?" It smelled good and it was crowded so there must have been something of quality being served. Or it was pizza day.

"Always busy," said Gale, gripping Bix's hand before reaching for his water bottle. "I've been working a lot with the other divisions lately, trying to get things worked out for artifacts and what have you."
He deliberately left out the part about being demoted, and instead gave Bix a small smile. "Food is good," he said. "How's Ceres?"

Bix pulled off his coat to throw over his chair. It was the unofficial 'this seat is taken' move. "She's good. You know, same as always. Sleeping late and not working out enough for my unreasonable standards of training." He stuck out his tongue with a smile. 'Good' of course was a relative term. 'Good' was a measure of how you coped moreso than how you were actually doing. Thankfully Bix and Ceres had each other and that was just enough of a support system to keep them sane. Because no one was every truly good except for maybe Allan. "Looks like fried chicken.." Bix spied a plate of crunchy, steaming chicken pieces and his stomach rumbled. He headed for the line with his friend, "Awwwyeah... How's you and Stormy?"

Gale grinned a little, pushing his seat back away to stand and join Bix as they both headed towards the food line. "You're always a little mad though, aren't you?" he teased. "Not everyone is as training loving as you are - or as peculiar," he added, jabbing a finger in Bix's chest.
He picked up his plate, annoyed at the way his cheeks tinged pink at even the mention of Stormy.
"She's...good," he said, deliberately casual. "We're good."

"Good?" Bix was skeptical. "You are good? Just good?" He took some chicken, looking back and Gale in a long enough moment to get a dirty look from the (taller) hunter behind his friend for holding up the line. "You are blushing like a school girl and all you have to tell me, your best bro on this miserable rock, in that things are good?" Bix finally moved along but skipped past most of the sides and took a biscuit.

Gale hastily scooped chicken onto his plate and gave Bix a dirty look, inadvertently mimicking the man behind him without realizing it. "I am not," he said, and scowled. "You're just being ridiculous again."
But then he softened a little, and said, picking up a biscuit as well, "I'm not sure how to feel about...some...things."

Thankfully moving briskly through the line had them settling back at their table. Bix hadn't said anything else, though he was bursting with questions. He waited for Gale to join him again, taking the time to sip his drink and peel a piece of skin off the chicken. It didn't taste as good as it looked. When the other joined him, he sipped again and swallowed before finally assaulting his bro with interest. "Ok.." his voice was dropped low, "so.. things?"

Gale slid into the seat across from Bix and fiddled with his roll for several minutes as though trying to prolong the inevitable. Finally, having torn off several small pieces of bread, he exhaled a long breath.
"Bix, you know Ceres loves you, right?" he said. "I mean, you've said it to each other, haven't you?"

Bix turned a little red and didn't answer initially. He kept eating and staring at his plate. "Well.. actually," he swallowed a full mouth of food, "not.. exactly?"

"Well.." Bix dropped his voice and was very earnest, "Ceres has some issues with trust... from her past." That was all he said. "And so I respect her slow pace. I mean ... she only just surrendered to the idea that she pretty much lives with me." Bix shrugged and clearly was nonplussed about the whole affair, "Besides I know it. I love her and she loves me. Even if she can't say it yet, it just means she hasn't figured it out. She's pretty hard headed you know." He continued, all the while munching away. "I don't bombard her with the need to hear it. She's not going anywhere."

His face colored, red staining his cheeks.
"But how do you know that?" Gale asked, and there was a note of mostly hidden desperation in his voice, his fingers curling around the fork in his hand. "How do you know that she loves you and that she's not going anywhere?"
