Challenge: Warrior
Yin lashed out, striking the target, and did not stop. There was no point in stopping to see if his strike was true, or to see if he needed to make corrections. If he was wrong, he would be corrected. If he stopped, he would be scolded. Then, uncharacteristically others around him began stopping, and the small boil looked up, followed the others as they crowded around the edges of the ring. Then he saw them. Warriors returning from guarding the borders. Tall, proud men, everything they all aspired to be. Then they drew closer and he could see the shadows under their eyes, the scars, the slightly lifeless look in their eyes. He was back to the dummies, attacking them with detached precision, by the time the other boils got tired of watching.

Challenge: Idol
Yin accepted his portion of meat with his bare claws, taking it back to his assigned seat while salivating at the barely seared meal. He had trained long all day with the other boils, and his stomach grumbled. He longed to someday live on FEAR, and FEAR alone, and not feel the need to consume flesh of animals made of FEAR to glean those bits, but for now he was just a young boil.
He was not expecting to be tripped, not expecting his meal to land in the dirt or the laughter that met his ears. He had done too well today. He had set the bar to high for the others, and now they repaid him.
"What is this commotion?" The voice sounded terse, but he knew it instantly. It was his favorite teacher, the man he idolized.
"Nothing sir. I am sorry to have bothered you sir." He scrambled to his feet to bow low as he spoke, almost as low as he would for a woman.
"Well if you're finished go help with the clean up."
Humiliated in front of his teacher he scrambled to obey. Later, as he worked, he felt a familiar clasp on his shoulder, a tendril of FEAR boosting his strength.

Challenge: Gloomy
Yin slowly moved back toward his sleeping pallet, trying not to let his bad spirits show. As he went he received claps on the shoulder, nice and hard, smiles and thinly veiled taunts. He had won his semifinals. he was moving on to the finals in the tournament.
He would be expected to fight, and expected to win. When he lost his teacher, his idol, would be so disappointed. But even if he lost he would be in the spotlight somewhat. Despair weighed heavily on his shoulders as he went back, flickers of hope fading away with each step that he took.

Challenge: Dilemma
It was just the semi-finals, but it would probably be better if he just lost here. Even making it to the semi-finals was putting more attention on him that he'd realized, and he did not want it. His opponent did. He played to the crowd, gaining their attention, making them root for him. But Yin knew him. Grew up with him. Sparred him.
Beat him.
Consistently. It would be obvious if he lost here. His eyes slid over to his teacher, and he could imagine his reactions. Pride and approval if he won. And if he lost? Disappointment. Confusion. Anger.
Yin had to make him proud. At least make it to the final. He could throw the fight there. Even if he did not want to.

Challenge: Wishes
Someday, someday he was going to be free. Someday he was going to have control over his own life. Someday he was going to fight when he wanted to, hunt when he wanted to, love who he wanted to. He was going to make choices and he was going to deny people things that they wanted. He was going to like waking up in the morning, and he was going to train how he wanted to.
Someday.
He sniffed and ran the back of his hand across his nose, trying to wipe away evidence that he had been crying before anyone stumbled across him. It was late at night, he should be in bed, but maybe he would not be caught.
But deep down he knew, these were all just pointless wishes. There was no possible way that he could ever be free of his destiny. He might as well accept it now and stop counting on shooting stars to make him special.
