It had always seemed a little odd to Jordan that Ferros was the only hammer he'd seen around the island. Certainly they couldn't be THAT rare. But the fact remained that they'd never worked with another hammer user, and they were very curious about this new person.
She seemed young. He assumed Dong Shu Lei was a she, anyway; her name gave him no clues, but her icon looked female. The emotes she appended to every tweet and her use of language made her sound young, but he was cautiously assuming that English was not her first language, and it was possible that that was changing her tone.
When he got to the training fields, he started a series of stretches, warming up for a workout. They'd take it easy on the new girl.

< Don't summon me before you reach there, you stupid!> Knowing that the girl was about to summon him when she was outside the dorm, Z stopped her immediately. "Oh sorry~" She was so excited to learn from Jordan senpai on how to wield Z properly and effectively. From his icon on twitter, it told her than he was an intermediate hunter or even above, so he must have a lot of valuable experiences on fighting. Reaching the field, she saw a tall guy's back (nearly everyone is tall for her anyway). She quickened her step and got closer. " Sorry, am I late?" She patted his back and smiled. Yes, she can only reached her back instead of shoulder.

Jordan jumped a little at the pat on his back and turned to face her. He hadn't heard her approaching. "You're pretty quiet," he told her, smiling. "You're not late. You're Dong Shu Lei? I'm probably pronouncing that wrong," he added. "Could you tell me how to say it correctly?"

Another handsome guy. Sadly he wasn't wearing glasses. Shu wondered why the islands is full of handsome and beautiful people everywhere as she stared at Jordan. "Um...." She creased her eyebrows lightly and tilted her head. "Um - the first character sounds like Don't but without the rhyme, the second one - sounds like the shoes we wear! And - the last one....the last one - sounds like lace without the rhyme. Hope you can understand, because my English isn't so good hehe. And you can call me whatever you want!" This guy seemed so polite and friendly, Shu's expression brightened up as soon as she finished, yay, she did it, quite a difficult question, especially she needed to say in English. However she managed it!

"Dong Shu Lei," Jordan repeated, with better inflection this time, as close as he could to her instruction and pronunciation. "Thank you. It's nice to meet you. I'm Jordan, and this is Ferros." He held up his right hand so that she could see the ring on his index finger, a heavy dark grey metal band with a round red stone. The stone lit up from within, a brief glowing blink of greeting.
He stepped back to give himself some room and summoned the huge hammer, then brought the weapon up to rest across his shoulder, grinning at the small girl and her hammer. "I'm pretty sure we can give you a few tips. Would you introduce us to your weapon?"

"Nice to meet you Jordan!" She moved her body closer to view the ring. "Wow Ferros, you look so cool, nice to meet you~" She smiled at the ring. When Jordan summoned the hammer, she just able to stare at her, eye widened as big as an owl. So enormous and heavy...? And then the next moment, her jaw seemed to drop off as she saw he put it up across his shoulder. Shu had her eyes blinked a few times to make sure she was in the reality. "O-oh! This is Zai Tai, I usually call him Z" She put the thin hammer vertically. "Z, say hello to Jordan and Ferros." The runes on the toy like pink hammer didn't change any. Z! Z....pleaseeeeee? There was no feedback but the runes of the cute hammer gave a hasty blink. "Sorry for that, Z's temper is a bit - you know.." She sighed.
Shu glared unhappily at Z in her mind while asked excitedly "Shall we start?"

"Nice to meet you too, Zai Tai." Jordan nodded to the pink hammer. "Does Ferros look too heavy?" he asked Shu. "He is, actually. It's the bond that makes him manageable." He nodded towards Z. "If you think about it, Z's size should make him too heavy for you to lift, but it's not difficult for you. But if I handed Ferros to you, he'd hit the ground immediately, and likewise if I tried to hold Z. I might do a little better, since I've been training my strength up for almost three years now, but it'd be a struggle."
He brought Ferros down, angling the large hammer out and to the side in an easy, practiced grip. "I don't know how heavy he feels, but he's probably got enough weight to add to the way it feels to swing him. If he didn't weigh anything to you, it'd be harder to get up enough speed to do good damage. Let that work for you. Once you get him going, he'll be hard to stop."
Jordan nodded to Shu. "You take the first shot. Take a step or two back, then come at me. Don't think about it too hard. Just let him swing the way he wants to be swung. And don't worry about hurting me. We can take a lot, and we don't mind."

Shu paid attention and nodded from time to time like a good student. "Oh. I never imagine it works like that - I thought Z is like hollow inside..." She looked at the floor a bit. Z seemed to feel offended and just blah blah blah in her mind like an annoying birdie. "Thank you for telling me that!"
Shu lightly shaked her hammer while Jordan talked about the weight. He was right, if she couldn't feel something in her hands, how can she swing it and hit?
"Ohhhh. ok!" It's time to try!
She held Z at a lower position of the thin handle and took more than 10 steps backward, counting number of steps she already moved. The petite girl crouched down and dashed forward. She closed her eyes tightly and swung Z as if she was a tornado.
Does she hit?
She opened one eye and peeked.

"I just talked about holding Z, but I should tell you that it's not a good idea to try to hold or use other people's weapons," Jordan said. "They usually don't like it, and it can do weird things to your mind. Ferros doesn't like me even touching anyone else's weapon, so I don't." His tone was affectionate; he and Ferros clearly liked one another.
Shu backed up, then ran at him. He brought Ferros forward into a block; Z glanced off the larger hammer, a light hit and a light drain on their shield. "Good," Jordan said. "It looks like you're going to work like us, some ways at least. It's easier to swing sideways than overhead. You don't always have to turn completely around, but it'll give you more speed when you do. Try it again. Keep your eyes open this time," he added with a grin.

Shu blushed as Jordan mentioned she was closing her eyes. What Jordan said made she wondered if Z would think the same. Shu sighed internally, she hoped she and Z could be like Jordan and Ferros one day, intimate like soulmate.
Shu blinked at the short appeared barrier. Z didn't bother to give more hints. "O-Ok. I will try again!" She nodded.
She darted forward, this time with her waist twisted backward a bit and swung Z towards Jordan from sideways. Knowing that she won't directly hit on the good guy, she was relieved and tried her best.
She just let go and knocked forward, imagining she was golfing.
Oh my, she did it! She managed to do what Jordan advised.
Shu jumped with a happy but small extent of up-and-down, and then looked back to Jordan for comment.

This time, Shu hit harder, and had Jordan not been ready for the hit it might have stung a little. They deflected Z's arc off to the side and nodded. "Good. You're doing great. Let his speed and weight do the work. You'll want to do exercises to stay flexible, maybe work some with weights to get stronger so you can swing him faster."
Jordan pointed his thumb at Z. "Now that you've hit us a couple of times, he'll be building a charge. You should both be able to feel the Fear energy building up; he might be getting excited about it. One more hit should give him enough Fear to use his charge." He braced himself again and smiled at Shu over Ferros.

Shu blushed a bit at the compliment, thinking what kind of exercises she could do in her room. She understood swinging her hammer may involve a lot of body twisting and she didn't really have the strength to hold Z easily. Lift up exercise? Maybe holding Z up and down for a short time? She wondered if it has enough space for her to do so. Morning would be the best time to do so. < Don't even think about it, it makes me so stupid. > But! < Ask for whether there is a gym or something similar, I am not your exercise tool, never! > Z obviously didn't like the idea of being swung by a little girl as replacement of dumbbells. That's so stupid. A charge? She tilted her head again. There was a sigh in her mind. < Stupid. When I can touch my opponent, I can eat some of their fear and turned it into my use. Fear is the core of us and with enough fear, I can do decent damage. That's all, no more questions. Now, hit him hard to feed me! > "Are you ready, Jordan senapi?" She asked to confirm he was prepared for defense. "Here we go~" This time, Shu wanted to explore the possibility, so she took it at a higher position for better grasp and swung it out. To her surprise, a metal ball flew out and hit together with the hammer. Um? She blinked at the golden ball. Damage: 7 HP: 40/ 40

The ball startled Jordan, and he angled Ferros to deflect it a little too late; it smacked into his shoulder. Shu looked just as surprised, Jordan noted. He laughed and rotated his shoulder to loosen it up. "Hey, you surprised us. That'll be useful. It gives you a longer range, so you won't always have to get right up close to your opponent."
He brought Ferros up in front of him, taking hold of the hammer's haft with both hands for a better grip. "He should be fully charged now. Go ahead and try it out. Let him guide you; he knows how to do it."
Ferros rumbled in Jordan's mind. The steady, light chipping at their shield didn't alarm him, and he was slowly gathering his own charge. He expressed the silent, wordless opinion that this pair could be a good team, given some time.

Grabbing the hammer with one hand, Shu used another hand to wave and shook her head in a frequency that she would get dizzy soon. "Sorry but I didn't know it! It shocked me as well, I though it was just a beautiful decoration...because you see, it looks like the kandama....! Oh my it does look like a kandama! That's why the ball can be split out like that...." She screamed for what she just discovered. Oh a long range function. It would be best for her because she was gonna panicked so easily in a real fight. Keeping opponents from a distance would be so much comfortable for her. < Hey, let me take the lead. Let me finish them off right now. > Shu felt a bit uneasy for how excited Z was, the runes on the hammer grew brighter and blinked with a very short wavelength she never see before. < Go ahead, ghoul! Attack!> She felt her body being controlled, not really moving under her will and swung the hammer around. The chain wrapping on the haft was released so that the ball can fly around much freely. Her movement was in bigger and bigger magnitude and faster and faster. Winds started to accumulate around the tiny girl while the debris of the surrounding dragged closer to where she stood, a pulling force was formed. Shu had no idea what was happening but only heard a laughter from Z. It was crazy. With the speed of the wind stabilized, she watched as her arm reached out to send the ball towards Jordan. A vague shadow of a fierce beast with dark blue body and purple ombre smacked at them before vanishing. The poor girl got hit on her chest by the returning ball well before she gained back the control of her body. She fell onto the ground and curled up. < Oh no. The washboard becomes much more flattened.... > It seemed she still had a lot to learn. Damage: 6 + 4 + 1 = 11 Backslash: (10+2+7) x 0.75 = 14 (14.25) HP: 26/ 40

Jordan watched warily as Shu and Z spun; the chain on the pink hammer's haft unwrapped, and a wind began to gather around them, tugging at Jordan's coat. Was this going to be like Ro's charge, like a bladed whirlwind? Or something else?
The whirling air obscured the ball until it flew out at them, and if they hadn't been braced for it, it might have knocked them back. The winds, the shadow of something, both effects were distracting. They hadn't expected a straightforward physical attack.
Then the ball lashed back on its chain, smacking into Shu's chest, and the girl crumpled to the ground, curling up around herself. s**t. Jordan moved over to crouch down beside her. "Are you okay?" he asked.
Ferros exchanged a thought with his human, and his runes glowed brighter; a cloud of steam hissed out of the vents on his barrel, gathering around the hammer, then flowed down to wrap around Shu and Z, soothing away the sting and repairing their shield.
