Basically, a tournament with an odd structure. In the beginning, there are 99 individual entries. Widely varied, and competent in whatever the competition is. In the first round, the singular unique round, every individual is put into a group of three, with 33 groups in total, and are given the command to duke it out until only one of the three is still standing. The winners are then given the command to choose one of their two former enemies to form a team and advance to the next round as a pair. The one of the three which didn't win and wasn't chosen is then sent to relegation. A large 33 man free for all. The last man standing is given the option to choose one of the forty seven others who were sent to relegation, and is also allowed to advance to the next round.
The second round is then more akin to the rest of the tournament. Each of the 34 teams are set up against a different team and given the command to eliminate the other team. After the match, the winning team have to decide upon one member from the team they just defeated who will then join them in a group of three, allowed to pass to the next round. Again, every member not chosen is sent to relegation. Seventeen men in relegation. The winner chooses two others and is allowed into the next round as a group of three.
The third round, naturally, is eighteen groups of three people. Again, they're given the task to basically eliminate the enemy team. After the match, they're again instructed to choose an individual from the former group of enemies to join their own. However, from this point forward, they're given the option to do something else as well. If all but one of the group decide together that the last member is holding them back in any way, they can cast a vote to send that member to relegation and pick a second member from the enemy team they just defeated. And then relegation happens again. Eighteen people, free for all, at the end the last person standing gets to pick three others to join them in the next round.
Round four, basically the same as the last. Ten groups of four people, five matches. Winners have to pick one member from the enemy team to join them, and have the option to relegate one of their own to pick a second. Fifteen man relegation, winner picks a team of five to proceed to the next round. Round five, same story. Six teams of five people, yadda yadda.
Round six is where the relegation stops. There are four teams of six, they get to pick a member of the enemy team and have the option to remove one of their own members and take a second. But there's no relegation. The only two teams that get to move on to the final round are the ones that won. Two teams of seven.
Final round of teams is similar. 7V7, all owt. Again, the winning team chooses one of the seven. Has the option to trade. Every one of the eight gets a prize. No idea what the prize is. Then, if not bored by the premise, a far more normal tournament between the remaining eight competitors to get the grand prize. Again, no idea what that'd be.

Possibly, but it could get confusing very quickly.
