Crafts

After the hoard was cleared out, Rep was left without carcasses to process or skins to tan or preserve. His every day hobby had been completely pulled out from under him and he was left trying his hand at other things instead. This unfortunately meant that one of Jordan's books on the shelves in the room had been forfeit.

It took a long time and a lot of starting over but in the end he had managed to craft a surprisingly neat and crisp dust jacket covered in short sandy fur.

He set it back on the shelf in pride of place.

Crafts

Several days later, a different book could be found sitting on the coffee table, with a sticky note attached:

How about black for this one?

Arts

The notebook of mazes had actually gotten dusty with disuse. It reappeared a week after the storm had gone, left on the desk, closed, but with a new and simple maze meticulously drawn onto the next unused page.

Book Club

Sometimes Rep was almost feline, in particular when he was bored. There was nothing much to do, a day with no duties and he had showered and done everything else.

Flopping his head into Harrison's lap, he looked up at him and helpfully waved the last book they'd been reading. "You should read to me." And then just to give his demand a little more weight. "Us." he added.

Cleaning

It wasn't as though he'd neglected the laundry, but the pile was bigger than usual. Jordan traded a duty shift to another Sun and spent the afternoon shuttling baskets down to the laundry room and back, and the time in between folding things. It was soothing, in a vaguely neurotic way.

The comparison to Melvin occurred to him briefly. He mulled it over and decided he didn't mind having tidiness in common with the guy. He wasn't quite that obsessive, though.

Arts

Rep was alone in the room and didn't realise how much he'd missed the arbitrary vandalism of Jordan's mazes. At first he'd cheated, failing to see the point, drawing a straight line to the middle, but over time he'd learned to fill them out, and every time he had a new one had showed up in its place, ever more complex than the last.

He'd felt their absence while Jordan had been gone.

He picked up the pen and started to follow the path, somehow, somewhere he'd forgotten how much he enjoyed the challenges.

Book Club

Jordan glanced over at the couch, then took two more mugs out of the cabinet, got out the cocoa packets, and started the kettle up for hot water.

"I'm going to ******** do it." he said abruptly out of nowhere, posturing dramatically. "I'm going to ******** cook."

He had even thought to bring the slaughterhouse apron he used in the hoard and don that. It didn't bode very well for anything that was to come. "How hard can it ******** be?"

"Has that been washed recently? Ever?" Jordan cast a dubious look at the apron.

Rep scoffed and gave Jordan a very critical look. "Of course its been washed, if it wasn't it'd be completely red and brown and I don't even know. When it gets too dirty I take it and wash it in the sea."

He beamed because he'd ******** thought of everything.

Cooking

"I meant with soap and hot water." Jordan tried not to think too hard about red and brown and I don't even know. The policy of pretending he didn't know about the dead things was bombed all to hell, but he didn't have to get details, either. "I'll eat what you make, as long as it's made under sanitary conditions," he added.

This was probably a mistake.

Maintenance

Hunter weapons didn't actually need to be cleaned and polished. They were supernatural, and as such kept themselves in shape naturally, shed dirt simply by transforming out of it and into totem form. That didn't mean that they didn't enjoy the attention, though.

By tacit agreement, they'd kept floor space open in the room, large enough to summon and hold Ferros easily, Tracey with a little angling and maneuvering. The cleaning kits were kept in a cabinet, and whoever noticed the mineral oil getting low first got to go get a refill. (In practice, this usually meant Harrison or Jordan. Whether Rep was unobservant or just lazy about it was an open question and a moot point.)

Jordan sat cross-legged on the floor, meticulously working a stiff-bristled brush into all the nooks and crevices on Ferros's head. There were a lot. The oil bottle and a folded cloth sat on the floor beside him, to be used after he'd made sure that the hammer was thoroughly clean. He hummed quietly as he worked.

Cooking

"Depends what you mean by sanitary. I'm no wearing ******** hairnets and gloves, hell I wore an apron." he shook his head grimly.

"Don't be a pansy."

Notes

There was a book in his hands, but Jordan wasn't reading, or even really pretending to. He was watching Harrison take notes, studying the furrow of concentration on his face and watching his hands as he wrote.

He liked Harrison's hands. Strong, dexterous, maybe a little rough from building and from handling B0nez, but capable of surprising gentleness. Actually, that kind of described Harrison in general, if he thought about it.

"By sanitary, I mean without the potential for bits of rotten dead thing to get into the food," Jordan said dryly. "I had never entertained the slightest thought of getting you into a hairnet."
