Artie Hopper

Artie let out a light sigh as he entered the fast food place feeling hungry, in his arms he had his bag with some stuff in it like his laptop and some other things. He instinctively avoided any woman nearby as he went to the free counter which luckily had a guy running the register, and it was a person he recognized since the boy came here often enough ever since moving here, so the male knew about his large appetite. After being greeted, he made his order, "Umm... Yeah, I'd like 5 chicken burgers, 3 cheese burgers without pickles, hmm... the 20 piece chicken nuggets, 4 large fries, a large ginger ale, and a vanilla milkshake." He said, feeling awkward as he got out his wallet. No matter what, he always felt embarrassed about his appetite, but he was eating for 21 so he had no control over that. "Will that be for here or to go, Artie?" Asked the worker with a smile. "...Here." He replied with a nod and paid for the food. He got a number and sat down at a corner table that had 4 chairs and relaxed a bit as he got out his laptop. It was then in three of the other chairs, black shadowy wolves with red eyes appeared and were sitting on the chair and looked at Artie. "Hmm...? You want the deck of cards to play poker?" Artie asked them to which they all nodded, "Alright, but don't be loud." He replied with a light smile as he got the deck of cards out and shuffled it for them before giving the cards to one of his wolves who was able to hold it with a paw before the three of them moved to the table next to Artie's and a fourth wolf appeared and they were all sitting at the four person table next to Artie's and proceeded to play poker. It could easily be considered a wonder how those wolves were holding the cards, but they were indeed holding them and lifting them without problems. Soon enough Artie's food arrived, so he moved his laptop out of the way and started to eat in a rather slow pace as he focused on his laptop.

Grrglgrglhrlg~! An unflattering sound rumbled from Tristan's stomach as it informed her that it needed more fuel. 'Ooookay, what's around here to eat.' Her eyes panned around, searching for a restaurant or a food place of some sort. 'Fast Burgers? Are they actually fast? And HOW fast?' Deciding to see for herself, the girl strode inside the building and made her way towards the counter to order.

"He-lloooo~ Can I get a cheeseburger? Lettuce, tomatoes, grilled onions, but no pickles though. Annnnd...a root beer and fries. Please." As Tristan began to pull out her wallet, a realization had dawned upon her. Holding up a finger as if to say "Hold on," she hesitantly asked, "Do you take...the U.S. dollar?" When the cashier nodded his head, a wave of relief washed over her face as she laughed nervously. "Oh! Good! Haha...I was worried there for a second! Ha...hahaha...! Ahem..."

After awkwardly clearing her throat, she slid the money across the counter only to catch something outrageous from the corner of her eye, causing her to do a double take. 'Oh mY GOD?!?! How many burgers does that kid even HAVE?!' And then she noticed the...wolves?...that sat around him. Playing cards. Shadowy apparitions of wolves playing cards. Something clearly did not register correctly. '...Pshh NAWW! OBVIOUSLY that has to be some sort of trick.'

Once she had received her order (wow okay so these really were fast burgers), Tristan brought her tray along with her and strode over to the table at which the boy with the big appetite sat, along with his...interesting choice of company. "Hi there," she greeted with a warm smile. "I noticed that you're already in the company of these lovely canines, but would it be possible to make room for one more?"

Artie had actually just started to eat his third burger while browsing some forums when he heard a voice suddenly speak to him. He tensed up visibly as he slowly looked up at the woman, his eyes widening lightly, and obviously being the person that he was, his mind was only going 'danger danger' because of his fear of women. His thoughts then went back to Noelle's teachings and he took a deep breath to calm himself down. "U-Umm.. s-sure.. I-I guess.." He replied with a light stutter as he looked down at his computer. It was at that point when the four wolves who were playing poker started to look at Tristan and all growled softly, as if saying that if she were to try something, they would rip her to shreds before going back to their game of poker.. Artie moved his food closer to him so that the girl would have space to put her food before going back and eating his food and focusing on his laptop, making it obvious that he wasn't going to start the conversation.

She blinked a couple of times before glancing between the boy and his wolves. "Oh, my apologies. I hope I wasn't interrupting anything," she replied to the boy's stuttered response. 'Am I...scaring him? Or is he just naturally sh--are the wolves GROWLING at me? Did I do someth--Okay not gonna lie this is kind of weird...but it'd be really awkward if I just left after asking to sit with him, soooooo...' After setting her tray down and pulling up a seat, Tristan extended her hand. "The name's Tristan by the way." In a lower but intrigued voice, she curiously inquired, "So are you like...an illusionist or something? I've gotta say, you have a pretty neat trick here. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it before. It seems very real." She leaned and tilted her head this way and that to try and search for some sort of machine or something that would explain the presence of the shadowy wolves. 'Nothing? Maybe something on the ceiling? How does he do it? Ohhh, maybe it's not him? It COULD be someone else performing the trick from afar. But then again...how?'

At the woman's apology he shook his head, "I-It's fine..." He replied as he finished his third burger and started eating fries along with his fourth burger. He then looked at her then to her hand before back at her as she introduced herself, "U-Umm.. A-Arthur.." He stuttered in reply though he didn't shake her hand, and seemed to move back a little bit. At her question of him being an illusionist, he tilted his head a bit, "No.. They're a-actually t-there.." He replied as a fifth shadowy wolf had appeared from his shadow and moved beside Tristan and sat down staring up at her with narrowed eyes. "F-Feel free to p-pet Delta if y-you don't b-believe me.." He added gesturing towards the fifth wolf that was watching her with a light growl.

"This is the age you are broken

The Larouche twins walked hand in hand down the street in search for a decent place to eat. It had been about 2 weeks since the two moved into Janhall City to begin with their studies at some school their foster mother picked out for them. They had been living on instant noodles before they finally decided to leave their dorm and try out some real food.

"If I see another cup of instant noodles I'm going to lose it" Freia clung onto her brother's arm as they walked further down the street. "You're the one who refused to leave the dorm remember?"Kai shrugged back his shoulders and glanced around, looking for a place to eat. A couple of fast food stores caught his eye but he knew better than to settle for junk food after living off of instant noodles for 2 weeks. I needed an adjustment period"Freia replied defensively. A growling sound caught Kaizer's attention. Freia blushed lightly in embarrassment as she looked down at her deflated stomach. "There there!"Freia pointed at a restaurant named 'Fast Burgers' just a few blocks ahead of them. "So much for avoiding junk food"Kaizer sighed and followed after his sister who sprinted towards the fast food place.

Upon entering the store, the twins immediately moved towards the counter and ordered the exact same thing.
"I'll have two orders of the burger with two patties with tomatoes and lettuce and a looooot of ketchup please"Freia couldn't stop from moving. She was swaying from side to side and jumping up and down while waiting for their order. She watched as Kaizer took out his wallet and paid the cashier. Freia grabbed the tray and carried it over to the table next to the table with a boy a girl and what looked like wolves playing poker. "Staring is rude you know"Kaizer projected his thoughts into his sister's mind. "Oh I'm sorry, do you not see the boy with God knows how much food on the table?"Freia thought back as she kept her gaze on the odd group sitting next to them. "And you say that I have a big appetite"Freia looked down at the tray and quickly devoured her meal. Kaizer on the other hand was only halfway through his burger when Freia was slouched against her chair with a look of satisfaction plastered on her face. Kaizer found himself staring at the girl who seemed to take an interest in the shadow like wolves seated next to him but quickly retreated before she could notice him looking at her.

"Oh!" Tristan nearly giggled in delight as she heard the boy's name. She was a little disappointed and felt somewhat...awkward when he didn't shake her hand, but oh well. Maybe he didn't like germs or something? Or maybe he just was a shy boy, seeing as he shrunk away from her after she tried to shake his hand. When Arthur conjured another shadow wolf and added that the wolves were truly there, Tristan raised her eyebrows in amusement, expressing her ever-growing curiosity. "Really?" The side of her mouth curved up as she then raised one eyebrow at the wolf named "Delta" who peered at her. 'No, nooo. This has to be a trick; he's gotta be pulling my leg.'

Once Arthur offered for her to pet Delta, Tristan opened her hand first, allowing for the wolf to sniff it. "Hey there, big guy." Once it seemed like it was okay, the girl curled her fingers to gently scratch it underneath its chin. "W-...wow. Huh, I don't know how you do it, but..." She was slightly at a loss for words, but nevertheless pushed on. It was almost like an extremely vivid dream. "--but...this is pretty cool." The girl let out a small but charmed chuckle, softly scratching around Delta's neck as she became more entranced by the thought of "feeling" a shadow. "So...let me guess. Are the rest of your buddies named like...Alpha, Beta, Gamma...? Or is it Alpha, Bravo, Charlie and so forth? Or am I totally wrong?" she chuckled.

Tristan couldn't help but grin from ear to ear. It was like she was experience her childhood again, when she played "pretend" with her brothers, but now it was like their fantasy was right before her very eyes. Tearing a small piece of meat from her burger, she looked at Arthur as she asked, "May I feed it?" If this..."shadow wolf" really was real, then it'd be able to eat, right? Otherwise the food would just pass through...right? Despite the fact that she touched Delta for herself, she still wasn't completely convinced that these specters were "real." There just...was no way.

"By the way, Arthur is a wonderful name." Yup. Not hard to pronounce like some of the other names she had come across when talking to other people, like Lëhirphanttar or Phor'grielvarr or Dragulukgrom. She'd probably would have become the number one name butcher in Janhall if she hadn't met Arthur when she did. But that wasn't the reason why she was so ecstatic when he had told her his name. Tristan's eyes nearly twinkled with enthusiasm as she unconsciously leaned in to ask her next question, speaking in a tone that clearly expressed how much she attempted to hold back her excitement. "Are you familiar with the Arthurian legends?"

Just then, a boy and a girl had seated themselves at the next table over. Tristan briefly turned her head simply because their presence had caught her attention, but she did offer them a small smile to acknowledge the two because...well, she didn't exactly want to be some standoffish stranger. However, she quickly turned her head back to face Arthur afterwards, as she was highly interested in hearing his reply.

"U-Umm.. He's Gamma, h-he's Sigma, he's Tau, and he's Kappa.." He replied as the four wolves each looked at Tristan one at a time in order of their names being called. "A-and go ahead..." He replied to her offer after she had petted Delta. He watched as Delta not only eat the piece of meat, he even swallowed it before moving over and getting an extra chair and silently pulling it over to the other wolves and hopped onto it to watch them play poker until they had finished around and then joined in on the game. Artie tensed up a bit as she said his name was wonderful and looked away and noticed a boy and girl also enter the fast food place and sit at the table near his wolves. He looked back at Tristan as she asked him if he was familiar with Arthurian legends. "Y-Yeah... I guess a-about as m-much as a-any o-other person... Why..?" He replied with a slight curiosity as he seemed to shrink back again when she had leaned in as he continued to eat a bit. He was really getting uncomfortable, she was definitely the type of person he that he had trouble dealing with.

Tristan's head turned to face each of the wolves as Arthur introduced them one by one. "Ahh, so the Greek alphabet, huh? That's a pretty neat naming scheme, I like it! Do you have more of these guys? It must be nice to have them keep you company. I have a lot of dogs too, but they're all back at home." She watched with a fixed gaze as Delta completely consumed the piece of meat she had given to it. 'Wow, what? Okay so nothing fell out of it and it just...ate it whole?' The girl's eyebrows furrowed as she maintained her gaze on Delta as it pulled a chair over to join its kin. Her eyes searched and stared hard for any sign of the food falling out from anywhere in the wolf's body, but to her dismay, she found nothing. 'O...kay. So it's a really good trick. Whoever's behind this OBVIOUSLY put a lot of work and effort into this act. Yeah. That must be it. Just a lot of time and effort. Not to mention these wolves are incredibly smart. How do they know how to play--oh, I got it! Someone must be controlling them from a system or something. That HAS to be it...!'

When the girl heard Arthur's answer to her question, her face beamed. "Well you see--!" Oh wait, he was shrinking away again. 'Oops.' Tristan scooted her chair a couple of inches away from the boy to give him some space, realizing a little too late that she had given into her leaning habit. It just...sort of happened whenever she became more animated about something. "Well you see!" she began again, "My brothers and I were named after some of the Knights of the Round Table. My older brother is Gareth, but I call him Gary. My younger brother is Kay--" She then pointed to herself with a pleased smile. "And I'm Tristan!" Her expression shifted into a pout for a moment, but it seemed to be more in humor than in actual disappointment. "My cousins on my mom's side have the cooler names, though. There's Lancelot, but we call him Lance, and Percy, you know, Percival, and then Gawain, but we just call him Wayne for short."

Her lighthearted expression returned, and Tristan continued with a casual shrug. "I just thought it was funny how our names were sort of related. Oh...that was kinda silly, wasn't it? Haha! Sorry about that..." Now sheepishly smiling, the brown-haired female rubbed the back of her neck, a tinge of embarrassment in her voice. "Anyways, I'm sure you've had more than an earful enough about me. If you don't mind me asking, are there others who are like you? Who can...you know--" Her voice lowered as if she were exchanging secrets with the boy. "--summon stuff...or do other cool tricks?" Without breaking eye contact with Arthur, Tristan pulled her soda cup closer to her and sipped from the straw in anticipation, her eyes eager and her ears ready for an answer.

"This is the age you are broken

The moment Freia was finished with her meal she found herself listening to the conversation between the people seated next to them mainly because the girl's thoughts were louder than a banshee's scream. Well that's what Freia thought. Being telepathic did have its pros and cons but it felt like a burden to the two since they could never get a moment of silence.

When Freia concentrated hard enough she was able to tap into the boy's memories first. His memories flashed before Freia's eyes like a movie trailer at the cinema only it seemed like a horror trailer. The instant the flashback of memories ended, Freia found herself in a state of shock. She stared down at her empty food tray as if she were in a daze.
"This is why you shouldn't go looking into everyone's memories like that"Kaizer projected his thoughts into Freia's mind again. Kaizer did have the same habit of peeping into strangers' memories not out of curiosity but because he couldn't help it. Sometimes the moment he would step into an area with strangers, their memories come surging into his mind like a movie marathon. Freia on the other hand had more control over whose memories she could look into but often found herself regretting it right after which was what she felt in that moment.

As Kaizer took his last bite of the burger, he snuck a glance and looked at the girl next to him once again. He could hear her never ending thoughts about how she couldn't believe the shadow wolves were there right before her very eyes. He found it interesting how she tended to find an explanation for everything that wasn't normal and he wondered how she'd take it if he were to shift into his wolf form right then and there. "Mhm seems like she's a dog person" said loudly on purpose to get the girl's attention since it seemed her brother took an interest in her. Kaizer kicked his sister's foot from under their table and immediately looked the other way. Kaizer wasn't one to start conversations with anyone and knew that he was a conversation killer. Freia grinned at her brother then looked over to the table with the boy and girl. His memories played in her mind over and over and Freia couldn't help but feel bad for what the guy had been through.

"Umm... t-thanks.." Artie replied timidly as she complimented his naming scheme. He was silent for a moment to let her finish speaking about her dogs after she asked if he had any more. "Y-Yeah.. 15 more.." He replied and suddenly 15 more shadow wolves jumped out a variety of shadows near Artie and sat down, all of their glowing red eyes looking at Tristan as she neared their master before she finally leaned back. Some of their focus then went to the nearby boy and girl who had viewed Artie's mind and they all let out a light growl at them as a warning to keep their minds to themselves. The wolves were all perfectly aware that the pair had viewed into their master's mind without permission, this was because their minds were all linked with Artie's, kind of like a more sentient hive mind. During that time, Tristan was explaining the names of her family members and how they relate to Arthurian legends, "Umm.. I-If you're a-asking m-me to c-cosplay as King Arthur, I-I would kindly l-like to refuse s-since I-I'm not into that sort of s-stuff.." He stuttered in reply to her comments about the names of her family members. He tilted his head a bit as he typed on his computer at her question if there were others who could summon things or do other things. "Well.. I'm s-sure t-there are... T-there a-are for example t-two dragons form Faranth Errol h-here... the the Lycans, l-like the p-pair sitting n-near my wolves...The Siren's d-diplomat...centaurs, and s-so on.." He replied honestly as he looked at her, but the fact that he had also found out the siblings were Lycans were because of his wolves and their sense of smell. He blinked a bit when he heard one of the siblings speak and looked over at them. Meanwhile, half of his wolves were watching the twins silently, making sure to keep them from looking into their master's mind again while five of them were silently watching Tristan and the last five continued their game of poker.

"This is the age you are broken

The twins noticed multiple pairs of red eyes fixed on them. The boy next to them had summoned about a dozen wolves or more but Freia was too lazy to count."It seems these shadow minions figured out we took a trip down memory lane" Kaizer thought out to his sister with a sigh. Freia heard the familiar warning growl wolves would often emit when provoked. She sat up straight and faced her brother, smiling wickedly. She bared her canines subtly in reply to the warning of the wolves next to her. One thing Freia hated the most was being told what to do and for the wolves to growl at her meant that they asked her to stay away from their master. "It's not like it would kill him if I looked into his memories." Freia thought in defense.

Kaizer shook his head and sighed, he knew where this was going. Freia had a bad habit of starting unnecessary fights that he had to end for her sake. "Honestly Freia, are you going to cause a scene here?" he spoke softly knowing the table next to them could hear. Freia rolled her eyes and emitted a low growl, feeling as if her brother were taking the boy's side. Kaizer bared his canines in reply, a low growl arose from his throat. "That's enough Freia, the last thing we need here is an enemy." Kaizer stared his twin sister down. He hated treating his sister that way but knew it had to be done to avoid conflict. Freia whimpered silently and obeyed her brother since she had no energy to argue.

The words of the boy caught the twins' attention. He mentioned of the two being lycans and being capable of doing 'other things' according to the girl. Kaizer and Freia both looked to the boy at the same time, their icy blue eyes fixed on the boy but their faces held expressions of curiosity and had no hostility whatsoever. Their gazes moved back and forth from the boy to the wolves then to the girl, exactly in that order. With their eyes still moving from one being to another, Freia projected her thoughts to her brother "Do we say something?" she asked and knew it was useless since her brother hated conversing with others. She simply continued to eye the group before them.

As Arthur summoned his fifteen other wolves, Tristan couldn't help but jump a bit in her seat as they suddenly appeared from seemingly nowhere. 'Oh my gosh there's SO MANY.' She had five dogs back at home, but seeing twenty in one place like this was...a little overwhelming, "a little" being an understatement. As she munched on her burger with the wolves' glowing red hues staring at her, Tristan wore an expression that said something like "Should I be feeling awkward right now? I've never had twenty pairs of eyes looking at me like this while eating before. Even if they're just shadow wolves it feels sort of strange."

From the table over, Tristan could hear the girl saying something about someone seeming to be a dog person. Of course, the brunette herself couldn't help but turn her head to face the other boy and girl and wonder what they were talking about, or rather, what the girl was talking about since it seemed like...she was the only one speaking at the moment? 'Are they...talking about me? Huh.' She could see the boy was looking away, but the girl appeared to be grinning and looking in her and Arthur's direction. 'Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh you know what...even if they were talking about me, I wouldn't want to make assumptions...just on the off-chance I happened to be wrong. Because that'd be awkward. Really awkward.' She only soon returned back to face Arthur, but she couldn't help wonder why the other girl was talking about her...that is, IF she was talking about her.

When the boy spoke of not wanting to cosplay, Tristan put up her hands in the air in front of her and gestured them with small waves as if to say "No, no, no!" She shook her head and laughed. "Oh no, that's not what I was asking at all! I'm sorry if that's what it seemed like, haha! We just met, and it'd be weird if some stranger asked you to cosplay as something, right?" She shook her head again. "I don't even cosplay myself, so I wouldn't even think of asking someone else to do so. Like I said, I just thought it was funny how our names stemmed from the same legend. But then again, your parents could have named you for some other reason, huh? But I won't pry into that."

She took a few more bites of her burger, and after finishing those bites, Tristan sipped on her soda again. Her attention perked when she heard a light growl from the wolves, but they weren't growling at her. 'Are they...growling at the other two customers?' Lips still on the straw, she unconsciously began chewing on it in a slight uneasiness. 'But...why?' Her eyes suddenly flicked back and forth between Arthur and the boy and girl at the other table. 'Wait...is there gonna be a throwdown? Is this like a turf war or something?' Her mind was racing and not completely focused on Arthur's explanation of the "others" who were in Janhall, but she did hear something like "sldkfjaogu Lycans faljasdfw centaurs..." So it would sort of make some sense if Lycans and wolves were to fight, right? 'Wait a minute Tristan. No, none of this would make sense because those other two can't REALLY be Lycans. It'd just be a show put on by the theme park or SOMETHING, doh.'

As she continued sipping on her soda, the gears turned in her mind. It was delayed, very delayed, but finally Tristan processed the word "DRAGONS" and she immediately swung her head to the side and sprayed the soda from her mouth, coughing violently thereafter as some root beer had gone down the wrong pipe. 'OH DEAR GOD.' Even if they weren't real, her excitement skyrocketed when the thought of seeing a "dragon" exhibit entered her mind, so much that she didn't pay attention when she was drinking her soda and ended up choking herself. The brown-haired female promptly stood up, grabbing a napkin to cover her mouth as the barrage of coughs only continued to assault her. "Ex-cough!-CUSE ME! Cough COUGH! GOING COUGH! TO BATH-WHEEZE!-ROOM...!"

When she finally burst through the bathroom doors and rushed over to the sink, Tristan let the rest of her coughs fly, hardly paying attention to the random woman at the sink next to her giving her strange and worried looks. "Oh my gosh, are you okay? Should I call someone in??" Tristan simply shook her head as the last of her coughs blew out. Once the storm was over, she straightened her back and she set her hands on her hips while breathing out a massive exhale. "Wheeeeew...that was something else." Turning her head to face the woman with a grin, she declared, "I'm totally okay!" The other woman still look concerned, but merely nodded her head. "Alright, if you say so." After she had left, Tristan pivoted back on her foot to gaze into the mirror in front of her. 'Dragons, huh?' Her lips curved up and grew into a delighted smile. 'Even if these are just attractions and cosplayers, I feel like a kid again. It's like all those years ago when I played pretend with my brothers.' Maybe she'd have fun in Janhall after all.

When the wolves saw the girl bare her canines to them, they looked at each other and seemed to let out a sound that could be considered a small laugh. Aside from the fact that she looked into their master's mind, the wolves really didn't take her that seriously. But they did continue to watch the pair in silence after that. Back at Artie, he had already gotten to his 7th burger and the last box of fries and continued to eat as he listened to her reply to his refusal of wanting to do cosplay. "Umm.. D-Dad just r-randomly p-picked a name h-he liked.." He replied to her comment. It was after that it went a bit quiet between them, it seemed like she had to process what he just said as she suddenly spat out her drink after looking around a bit and started to choke. Before he could say anything, she had excused herself and had gone to the bathroom. "She's... quite the eccentric.." He muttered as he tilted his head as he finished the last of his burgers and his drink and started to eat the chicken nuggets. One would wonder, where does he put all that food he just ate, as he didn't have any physical change despite eating so much and he was still eating the chicken nuggets and drinking from the milkshake.
