Character name:
Mmur

Link to journal AND / OR Quest Thread:
This is it.

Describe your character's personality in less than 30 words:
happy, reckless, creative

Does your character have a ship / OTP?
He had a stallion to call his own, but they were not meant to be, woe.

Describe your character if they were a vegetable:
Golden zucchini.

What is your character's favourite music / song / piece?
Anything with a peppy beat. Ballads are not Mmur's thing.

What is your character's hobby, if they had spare time?
If he wasn't so busy sitting around having a mid-life crisis, Mmur would
probably run a horseman newspaper just to have an excuse to talk
to people and ask them personal questions.

Is your character more arts, science, or sports inclined?
Arts.

What type of personality traits does your character gravitate towards?
All kinds. Mmur doesn't discriminate in his quest to irritate.

What are your character's personality traits (Good ones?)
curious, agreeable, imaginative

What are your character's personality flaws?
tactless, directionless, impulsive

What is your character's favourite colour?
Some shade of warm brown.

Describe your character if they were in the opposite faction:
Hunter: A spacey Mist, perhaps? He should be a Sun, but he's... not.
Halloween: Some sort of giant undead voodoo doll.

What would your character look like as the opposite gender
OR 10 years into the future?

Ten years into the future he's going to look exactly the same unless he's
dead. As a mare, he'd also look kiiind of the same, but with an added pair
of wee booblets and no wang.

If your character was an Amityville Professor / Divison Leader / Horsemen Clans
lead how would they teach others?

Mmur would carefully plan out what he wanted to teach, then take off
after some distraction in the middle of a lesson.

Who does your character look up to?
Anyone who outranks him, which means... everyone. Soon this will change,
but it hasn't yet. He'll always look up to Cymbeline, however. And Salbei.

What is a great weakness of your character?
For one of the scourges of the human race, he's not all that bloodthirsty
on his own.

What are their favourite foods?
He doesn't really have one. When he does eat, he likes something
with a little spice. And finger foods. Those are fun.

Favourite fashion style?
Naked.

Favourite minipet?
Mmur enjoys the occasional companionship of a foxfire.

If your character was in a fantasy novel who would they be?
Joxer.

Describe your character as a mythical creature:
I'm really bad with this question.

Describe your character as a Disney princess and / or Villain:
Ariel.

If your character could travel anywhere where would they go?
To a spa.

If your character could confess one great secret what would they confess?
That he kind of doesn't want to play apocalypse.

apathy

It was happening again.

Mmur was right in the middle of contemplating whether or not the stain on the ceiling of his tent looked more like a foxfire or a nondescript rock when his thoughts ground to a halt. He suddenly realized that he was slipping, falling back into the old patterns that he had desperately wanted to break. He had even had a vague plan as to how to go about doing so, and a month ago he'd been following it masterfully, battling titans and visiting strange new worlds through the magic of trance, but somewhere along the way he had stumbled. Now he was here, staring at stains. Waiting. It was so very easy to continue following orders as he always had, like he was supposed to. It was easier still when none were being given.

The soldier squinted his glowing eyes. "Rock," he declared, pushing himself to his feet in a smooth roll. It felt good to move again, so good that he had to wonder just how much time he'd spent lying still. The deep, horseman-shaped impression in his bedroll suggested quite a while. Mmur sighed and fluffed his pillows before he ventured out into the sun.

He sat up slowly, his lower lip swollen and tangy where he had bitten through it. The low-ceilinged cavern was dark and empty, the portal that had attracted him to this spot temporarily spent after his adventure inside. Mmur welcomed the oppressive blanket of silence that enveloped him while he gathered himself. What had gone on in the mirror had left him muddled, but one truth stood out clearly in his mind. He had done the impossible. He had bested the general at great cost. He had killed his family, the Protector of Famine, scores of doe-eyed students, all for the ultimate power that only their sacrifice could ensure. His hand shook as he combed it back through his hair, fingers lingering on the spiraling mark behind his ear. It had been worth it.

Mmur peered into the black, afraid that someone was near, someone who might hear his treacherous thoughts. Even though there had been hundreds of times in the past when he'd helped foment large scale chaos, he could count on one hand how many of them he had instigated on his own. But this... He knew it hadn't been real. He knew he couldn't truly hold his own against an ailing Elder in this world, let alone Cymbeline. He reached out, finding the mirror's edge and running a claw down its length. In that other world, however, he had. He'd been a king.

Their spar was almost laughably one sided. The excited smirk Sussara often wore during battle made many appearances throughout her thrashing, but once she had finally conceded she had to limp back to the sanctuary, using her brother as a rather obvious crutch.

"What's with you today, man?" Upon her return to the realm of the living, Sus had integrated into Halloween society much more effortlessly than Mmur had, despite his best efforts. Still, he knew that in this case, "man" was a colloquial expression that implied camaraderie, and asking what was "with him" was not a request to hear what he was carrying in his breechcloth. "You nearly murdered me... again... after fate saw fit to bring me back." She poked at his side, right in the spot she knew would get a reaction, and he jumped, chuckling involuntarily.

"You just weren't paying attention. I'm not all that strong."

"Are so. And... focused somehow. Like you wanted to beat the snot out of me." Her tone was light, but her words still hit too close to home.

"Don't..."

"What? It's fine. You should be proud! I like seeing you grow stronger, even if it's at my expense. Even if you're stronger than me."

He swallowed, gripping her shoulder a little tighter. "Sus?"

"Yeah?"

"I have something to ask you."

"Sure. What—"

"Not here. Later."

family

Once they were back inside his tent, Mmur puttered around for a while, brewing a strong pot of tea and tending to his sister's wounds even after she brushed him off. When she was patched up to his satisfaction he tore a chunk out of the soft center of a loaf of bread and stuffed it between his teeth and his cheek, sopping up the blood that was steadily seeping from his gums where Sus had punched. The sun was beginning to set by the time she broke the silence, deep orange shafts of light cutting through the tent's open flap.

"Could you close that?" Sussara asked. She had rescued his old helm from his meager pile of belongings and was carefully dusting it.

"Hm?"

"It's in my eyes."

He must have looked confused. She added, "The sun," and gestured toward the flap again.

"Oh!" Mmur tended to the tent, slowly tying it shut and smoothing the canvas flat.

His sister scoffed, leaning back on his nest of furs. "Do I have to drag this big secret out of you? Have you met someone new? Is it a human? A hunter?"

Mmur shot her a glare that quickly turned into a roll of his eyes.

"Well?"

He sighed. Fine. It wasn't like she hadn't asked for it. "What if I told you that I really did want to murder you?"
