The Basics
OOC: Out-of-Character, meaning you are not speaking or acting as your character but as yourself.
IC: In-Character, meaning everything you do and say are considered as the things your character does.
RP: Roleplay(do I really need to explain this?)
NO-NOs
-Power-gaming
-Meta-gaming

Power-gaming
In role-play, power-gaming is controlling someone else's actions without their permission or doing an action indefinitely.
For example:
-BAD-
*MIKE pulls his blade out and decapitates JACK*
There's nothing JACK can do in this situation because MIKE dictated that JACK is now dead. Actions like this will be ignored.
-GOOD-
*MIKE swings his blade, aiming to decapitate JACK*
Now here, JACK can respond. He could duck, block and such.
Meta-Gaming
In role-play, meta-gaming is giving knowledge that you learned OOC to your character without him/her having any way of learning it IC.
E.g:
You've all seen the anime many times and you all know where the titans are. In case of an enactment of the attack on Trost, your character wouldn't have any knowledge, so if you go around straight to the titans' spot or reveal where they are to your team-mates without finding them, you will be meta-gaming.
Mary Sue
This is when your character is perfect in every way that it gets annoying.
E.g:
Super handsome/beautiful, strong, super-smart, kind, invincible, loved by everyone, has no flaws etc. etc.
How to make sure your character is realistic
1) Set your character's limits. This is very important. For example:
Let's say the setting is a battlefield at medieval times. If your character is agile, they shouldn't be able to knock down a large warrior. If your character's a large warrior, you shouldn't do *catches arrow* if you can't actually do it in-real-life or the anime.
2) Make transitions between subjects if you're changing it. This is very important.
E.g:
-Hey, what's up?
-My cat died...
-I like cake. Do you like it?
-I guess... What does that have to do with--
-Oh no! I'm dying!
-Oh god what's happening!?
-I like cake.
-YOU SAID THAT ALREADY!
You'll just end up sounding like a little emotional boy with ADHD.
