This is for all you priest fans out there, I want to here about how you feel about playing a priest, and your opinions on shadow, discipline, and holy builds, heck share yours!
Myself, I play lvl 60 undead priest on gilneas, primarily a shadow/discipline build (18/0/33) I've always wanted a shadow priest since I heard about WoW way back when, so when I finally got it, it was the first thing I made. I enjoy the face melting, and brag excessively sometimes of the power of shadow priests, what can I say? I enjoy it a lot. sweatdrop Despite almost no healing, they survive much longer than people give the credit, and have many uses, warlocks especially should appreciate us more. xD we can increase their shadow damage, give them more stamina, heal them to full health almost instantly after a life tap spam, and with vamp embrace they can help bring on the healage during a fight. whats not to love?

I currently have a lvl 42 Holy/Shadow Night Elf Priest & a lvl 16 Shadow Forsaken Priest. Shadow is great for soloing, but really - you're not going to heal as well in groups with a Shadow build. The thing you'll miss the most is the healing aggro reducer. The mana cost reducer & shorter casting time really helps out as well. But Spirit Tap really is helpful for quick soloing w/ little downtime.
But, w/ 1.10 Disc & Holy are getting completly over-hauled so who knows - maybe you'll see some badass Holy builds. ._.

Not really, holy nova remains pretty useless even after the last patch, only for another reason is all >_>
While it doesn't have a cooldown anymore it requires 750 mana to cast rank 6, just to do a measily 200 damage and heal about 300. Mind you that being the highest rank. The fact you can only cast holy nova about 5 or 6 times at any level (with the appropriate rank) and burn up your entire mana pool is useless.
For that matter, on the subject of builds, holy has a lot going for it, although not by means of abilities. In addition to holy nova being useless, light well isn't practical either seeing as the effects are cancled if you're taking damage (evidently the only time it would be needed). So for all you priests out there I say don't get into holy just because the abilities sound nifty, even if spirit of redemption actually does come in handy.
I myself am a disc/holy priest, 33/18/0. I would suggest that all priests invest at least 10 points in discipline, just to get improved shield and fortitude. After 1.10 putting point in sheild actually increases the ammount absorbed and not the weakened soul timer (which as of now is always 15 seconds, yay for Blizz!).
I can't say that I look highly upon shadow priests, I always thought if you wanted to do a bunch of damage roll a lock or mage (I myself rolled a lock), but if you know that all you're going to do is PvP a lot than I see no reason not to. I play my friends shadow priest and it's so fun to take into WSG

@ Illegal Miner: I know Holy Nova sucks. The talent thing that I read before giving that talent build had mis-information. I went shadow. I still heal. But I buff the warlocks in between heals, use Improved Vampiric Embrace (when I get it, next level!) to heal the party on regular mobs, Silence enemy casters, and can heal even more in Shadowform with Vampiric Embrace. I also PvP quite a bit (Got rank 5 a few days ago, 20-29), and love to shadow there. The best raid healing build in the game is this: http://www.wowhead.com/talent/?bVgbsZbxxcfMqxShield isn't even really needed, as if your tank knows how to press the buttons on his action bar, you're fine, but it's useful in BGs. I'm using this build at 60: http://www.wowhead.com/talent/?bVxZZVGgtctRtAs I'm the guild shadow priest. : )

I usually don't use sheild for warriors, moreso casters who have to AoE and flag bearers in WSG. :3

Illegal Miner I usually don't use sheild for warriors, moreso casters who have to AoE and flag bearers in WSG. :3 I love my Shield. I see alot of people say it's not useful but it really is. If I'm soloing and I pull two guys who hit pretty fast I just shield and blast them into oblivion. If I didn't have the shield I'd be unable to cast things normally. And like you said it's good for casters who AoE. I throw a shield on any mage who plan to do that and they spam away. I leveled using a Holy priest and it was fun. I a bit frustrating at first but It really worked out for me because I have been constantly playing with a Pally friend. I am a bit more casual of a player then him so it has taken time to get to 53. I agree that shadow is faster for leveling and probablly a good idea, but when I am playing I usually get invites from previous Groups looking to replace their Priest due to constant wipes. I like instances so Holy is super. I am going to try shadow soon, but I really like being the healer. I have the generic Holy build, but I keep my priest well equiped and I have some minor intellect enchantes. biggrin High intellect and High Spirit. Oh, and I find holy nova to be good for one thing. Killing low level grey mobs. It's fun, and I can always respec later. I love running into caves or groups and Spamming holy nova. I usually get a few greens after doing this that I can send to my enchanter friend so he can level his skill. I could keep going but I feel as if I'm rambling once again.

PW: Shield is fine for soloing & shielding casters, & even ******** rogues who refuse to find that pesky Feint button, but just a reminder - it's a no-no on the tank, unless he's in dire straits. And if he is, that means someone done ******** up.
And again, I don't know how many times I've stated this, but Holy vs Shadow healing in a group is basically dead even. I now have a 48 Shadow/ Disc Forsaken priest & a 45 Holy/ Disc Night Elf priest. On both characters, I have a set for DPS (generally more stam/ int/ +dmg gear) & a set for healing (spirit/ int/ +healing gear). And really, in groups, I can keep a party alive just as easily on either one. Yes, my Holy priest's mana pool lasts a little longer, & casts healing spells a little quicker, but otherwise - no real difference. On the other hand, lvling on my Holy guy is like slogging through quicksand. On my Shadow priest, I can solo an elite 2-3 lvls higher than me. I can out-dps a mage or rouge, while healing everyone with Vamp Embrace.
So, in conclusion, it doesn't benefit you or parties to go Holy before 55-60.
