Alone, how she managed it the baby had no idea. It seemed she was some where safe, and managed to get herself somewhere open. From where she sat she could see the base of the huge tree, the place that felt safe and like home. Looking up, she tried to see to the top. All she managed to do was look so far up she fell backwards.

Okay, now she saw the sky with the clouds. That was fun for a little bit, giggling to herself as she raised a hand to try and touch a cloud. Even the birds caught her little eyes to entertain her. Sadly, the clouds were out of reach and that was distressing. As the birds she watched flew off, and the clouds grew darker, the fun started to fade.

Now, now she was getting scared. With her ears tight against her body body started to shake a little. Kicking her little feet she tried to roll over but it was failing at the moment. Then, oh then a small drop of water hit her head, then another. That was more then enough for the baby.

Blinking her green eyes as she looked up to the darken sky. Feeling so alone, the baby started to tear up. Taking a deep breath a slow whine turned into a loud scream followed by shrieks and sobs. Flailing her arms and legs she shouted to the top of her lungs with tears free flowing. The binky she had dislodged from from her mouth and landed on the ground to her side. It had failed to pacify the panicked child.

What had been a bright warm day was quickly turning into a dark and dreary sky. A few drops of water managed to tickle her nose as the white fauny peered towards the sky. "Oooh, curse you fiendish clouds...really its such a pain the Pegasus can't control the weather here... if we don't hurry Darling, my hair will get ruined!" she sighed, linking her arms around one of the bright red stallion's arms.

They had gone to the tree to pick up the last of her things to move them over to the new boutique he had built her, as its final finishing touches for her room. Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom had agreed to watch DJ and Lil Red while they were out. And oh, how amazingly handsome and kind he had been to her, Rarity couldn't think of being with anyone else other than Big Mac now.

But the more drops that trickled down onto her face, the more her blissful daydreams seemed to fade. "Uhg, really. Just really.... I knew I should have brought an umbrella hat... or something. I'm sure I had one in my cart.." she tilted her head, thinking back to all the things she had stuffed in her cart when they had to leave....

That is until something distracted her.

"Do you hear that darling?" she paused, all concern over the rain about gone as the sound of a screaming baby filled her ears. What on earth was a baby doing out in such nasty weather? And why couldn't she hear any sounds of a parental figure?

Grabbing Big Mac's arm, she tugged him off towards the direction of the screaming, the figure of a little blue and green faun baby slowly coming into view.

"OH this is THE. WORST. POSSIBLE. THING!" she shouted, rushing over to scoop up the little one.

His muscles bulged to pull the load. He'd picked up a few other things needed for the farm as well and immediately regretted the decision of making this his last trip for the day... Yet, like the headstrong work horse he was, he kept on pulling, tapping in a bit into his "inner ox" to help with the bulk of it.

Big Mac merely chuckled as he listened to Rarity. True - it was a shame that the Pegasus Faunies couldn't do anything about the weather. He'd grown a bit accustomed to relying on their teamwork to ensure that the farm vegetation would get just the right amount of water necessary to thrive. The way Nature worked in these here parts made it difficult to determine on when he needed to distill some water for proper hydration of the trees and the like.

He was distracted into his own thoughts for a moment before a soft tugging on his arm shook him back to reality. Tilting his head, he heard the soft wails of a nearby child. He then answered Rarity with a simple, but slighty concerned, "Eeehy-Yup..."

He set the cart down quickly but calmly and followed close behind Rarity. It wasn't until she was proclaiming this to be the worst possible thing before he caught sight of the small little filly... er... faun. Would she still be considered a filly at this point? Bah. Horse feathers... who cared. The child was left all alone and it was about to rain on them pretty hard by the way the rain was beginning to grow steady in their rhythms.

Frowning, Big Mac moved to brush past Rarity and gently picked up the small babe into his big strong arms, however, the love of his life acted quicker than himself. He smiled a bit at this and shook his head, leaning in a bit to gently stroke the small sprig of hair on her head back in a soft pet. "There, there, little gal." he cooed to her in his deep voice. "Ain't nothin' gonna be gettin' yeh with us around." he added.

His gentle features then turned up to look around. There was no sign of any other Faun about in the area. With a frown, he looked back over to Rarity with a bit of a shrug.

"I 'spose we should take her back home with us fer tonigh'. I-..."
he caught himself and correct his words. "WE can't be letting a sweet little filly like herself stay out here in the rain, can we?"

He turned back, walking up to the cart and grabbing up a blanket he'd picked up from in the tree. He brought it to Rarity and wrapped it around the two of them to keep them dry then led Rarity to the back of the cart. "We can come back t'morrow and ask around the tree fer the little filly's parents."

He swiftly scooped them up and set Rarity on the back of the cart. He paused and took another look around. A large part of him was looking to see if there were any signs of Faun he may have missed... while a veeerrry small part of him hoped he wouldn't.

The baby screamed and cried as the rain came down, she did NOT want to be wet. Just when it seemed the world was ending, suddenly she was picked up! The baby instantly stopped crying as she stared at Rarity wide-eyed. Looking at the fauny that picked her up, she only looked away when she heard another voice.

Her ears were fully out, though each drop of water sent them back against her little head. Looking between the two like she was trying to figure them out, the little tot came to a decision.

The very next moment she smiled, first at Big Mac then with the added comfort of the blanket, she smiled at Rarity. Bringing a tiny hand up, she touched Rarity's cheek and gave a coo and snuggled into her arms. She tried to keep watch on what the stallion was doing as well, giggling when he lifted her and the mare who picked her up.

The pacier was left behind, but at this point it wasn't a concern for her. She was drier, warmer and being held. Holding one bit of the blanket with a tight grip she gurgled to the two in 'conversation'.

"Sweet little thing... left all alone. Her parents should be ashamed!" Rarity chided, before pausing with a thought. "If she even has any..." she added quietly. Oh what if something happened to her parents and that's why this little dear was left all alone?

Turning towards Big Mac, allowing herself to be wrapped in the blanket as well as carried and set on the cart, Rarity nodded. "Indeed, this rain is no place for a little one. Not to mention its coming down harder. " she whined, tugging the blanket closer around herself as well to try to cover her gorgeous mane. We can come check back early tomorrow morning... surely they wont mind us keeping her safe and warm for one night.... seeing as she's left all alone..." she huffed.

She had to smile though, as the little one gently touched her cheek, cooing and babbling on some kind of conversation only she seemed to understand. "So cuute! Oh DJ and Little Red are going to just eat you up!" she squealed, rubbing her cheeks against the little faunies.

Of course by DJ and Little Red, she meant herself.

"Wonder what her name is... do you suppose she even has one Big Mac?" she tilted her head, brushing away any stray drops from the little ones ears and hair tuft before peering out at the handsome red stallion as he glanced around for any sign of parental figures.

Big Mac was of little words at this point. His thoughts drifting over the many different possibilities as to why this one was all alone.

Her parents could have left her. Her parents could have lost her. Did she even have parents? Weren't the foals and fillies of this world born from acorns? Maybe she was a sproutling? A faint smile cracked the corner of his lips from the idea.

He remained silent for a moment, hoping that her parents were just lost and dearly missing their babe this night. How proud and thankful they'd be to see her in the morning safe and sound. He greatly hoped this was the case as he dreaded the thought of her being without a home. Much less a name.

A name... Did she have a name?

He sighed a bit and shook his head in response. "Let's hope so..." he offered as he lifted the cart and began moving them home again.

The little faun cooed and gurgled as the adults talked. Fascinated by Rarity, the little girl would only look away when the stallion spoke then it was right back to watching the white faunie. It was the purple mane, from what she could see, that got her attention. Any bright color just grabbed her eyes like a magnate.

With a big gummy smile, the baby cooed and nuzzled Rarity back when she rubbed cheeks. Her little ears moved like a radar dish to grab just any ol' sound.

Practicing her own sounds she attempted some of the syllables she had heard."mmmah mmah mmah eh eh eh. De da dah a." Quite proud of herself, the chatty little one kept right on going smiling with great animation the whole time. Wiggling her little hooves.

Showing not a care in the world, the little one had no misgivings of leaving the spot she was found. When she did look away, it was only to put eyes on the stallion, to coo at him and look right back to Rarity.

Rarity sat in short silence for a few as Big Mac began pulling them back home. She snugged the blanket tighter around her and the little filly, listening to her babble on and on as she seemed to only allow herself to get distracted by the handsome hunk of a red stallion in front of them.

Oh wait maybe that was her....

When the little one started trying to imitate words and syllables, Rarity let out her own coo of delight. "Just tooo cute! Can you say Daimond? Ddddaa-iiiii-muuuunnd." she grinned, sounding out the word, having no concept of 'easy words for children.'

"You are just as sweet as a button on a silky spring corset, fashioned from the finest silks in all of good ol' Equestria! I can't wait to show you to the boys." she grinned, all thoughts of this little one having parents being thrown out the window, at least for the short time being. Perhaps even deep down somewhere, she was already wishing the little one didn't have any.

Big Mac chuckled at Rarity's efforts to teach the child words. "Perhaps a smaller word?" he offered in a teasing tone. He smiled, none-the-less, proving to Rarity that he wasn't being an a** in attempting to correct her for the moment.

"How 'bout colors?" he then suggested, looking over his shoulder as he continued to trudge down the path. "Like, 'Red'...?"

For a few moments, the little girl was quite as she stared at Rarity. Blinking a few times she begins the start up word motor. "Da-da-da mum mum mumda?" Wrinkling her nose she mumbles and very much tries to get the word down. Waving her arms she flailed a little as her ears moved forward and back.

Word wasn't quite right, but it was fun to say. With a big smile and an active coo, she repeated the 'word' "Daa daa mumm mum!" Quite pleased with herself, she closed her little eyes and gave the biggest smile she could with all her little heart.

As the other one spoke, one ear swiveled up and she turned to look at the stallion. Most of what he said she didn't understand. As the rewards for 'talking' came, she was more encouraged to try it out "Ike! Ike wed!" Cooing again, she looked back to the mare holding her. Turning her little body inward, she snuggled against Rarity.

Rarity laughed, pleased with the little ones efforts. "See, she's going to be glamorous in no time, I know it!" the white mare smiled, tucking the little one closer, gently twirling a finger in her little hair tuft. The rain seemed to pick up and she was glad that Big Mac did also, as the barn slowly came into view, and just beside it, her new Boutique that he had built for them to live in. Oh wouldn't the boys be surprised to see this little gem!

---------

The night had passed without much fuss. The little filly seemed so well behaved from the little Rarity had seen of her. Just to be safe, she had made extra room for the little one to sleep in her bed with her and Big Mac. The boys had seemed to take an interest in her but Rarity wasn't sure it was enough interest just yet to mind sharing a crib till Big Mac could make a new one. Speaking of which, he should be getting home by now!

"Don't worry. He should be home soon to tell us if he found your parents." the unicorn cooed, bouncing the little green and blue filly up and down in her arms. She had just fed the boys and they sat playing quietly, for the time being, so her attention was turned to the little girl. "I fear this may be selfish of me..." she said with a sigh, managing a soft smile for the little one. "But I rather hope you don't have parents. That you came from an acorn like the faun... which is rather strange... and certainly not my style. Why I'd prefer to bust out of a gorgeous Ruby or a lustrous Diamond!" she chuckled, getting carried away and rather off topic.

Thinking Big Mac probs went to find parents/ask around and Rarity stayed home with zee lil ones

Big Mac trudged back towards the farm. It had been a long morning, filled with many condolences and offers of help should they need it, but all inquiries were left with a failed attempt at locating any parent or guardian for the child.

He figured that it was all for the better. He had grown a bit attached to the idea of having a daughter. Though it was a bit disheartening to think that she was abandoned by an unknown individual or two and that no one seemed to know where she might have come from.

The boutique came into view up ahead and his shoulders felt heavy with guilt at turning up fruitless in his efforts. If she stayed with them long enough, he mentally dreaded the day when she'd ask about her real parents. How would they go about explaining that?!

Entering the boutique, he took a deep breath, preparing himself for the barrage of faces he was about to walk into. Once that was done, he entered the room Rarity and the kids were in and looked at her solemnly with a shrug.

The day before was a distant memory, wet and scary to dry and comforting. Of now she was in her preferred spot, Rarity's arms. Looking at her fingers with great interest, she opened and closed her hands one at a time. This activity was enthralling and she giggled as she played open and close with her little hands.

Ears perked forward when Rarity spoke, the little baby drew her eyes away from her hands and looked up at the mare. Babbling back at her, she didn't understand what was said but was eager to continue the conversation. She almost turned back to her game when she heard the word she recognized.

Looking back up she gave a toothless smile and enthusiastically responded, "Da da da mum mum da!" Connecting one hand with the other, she clapped for herself for saying the word 'correctly'.

Seeing the red stallion she greeted him with the word again, it had gotten such positive reaction the first time that she'd associated it with something good, "Da da mum mum da!"

Rarity frowned, peering at Big Mac as he shrugged, guessing that he found no one missing a little one. With a sigh, she glanced down at the little filly, her gurggling attempts at trying to say Diamond bringing a soft smile back to her face. "I suppose.... we could always keep her..." she began, glancing back over to the big red stallion, searching his face for his reaction. "And she'll need a name.... of which I may or may not have already been debating..." she gave a sly smile then giggled at the little one clapping for herself. "She looks like a little Sapphire...." she said wistfully.

Big Mac couldn't help but smile to the small toddler's attempts to call him 'da da'... It did have a nice ring to it... Of course, he already knew about that from the boys. They were undoubtedly jealous at how much attention this little munchkin was already getting.

Still, Big Mac had always wanted a little girl of his own one day. And given the current situation, the idea of keeping her seemed the best for all their interests.

He took a deep breath and sighed, crossing the room to Rarity and calmly picking up the little faun. He made a motion to gently toss her up, though her tiny frame never left his big powerful hands. She was much too small to toss her up any higher!! He then cradled her in his arms and nodded.

"I 'spose we could keep her..." he offered, giving Rarity a bit of a wink.

"Though, I think her markings look more like little rose vines, don'cha think? I think Rose might suit her just fine." he stated almost matter-of-factly. But before Rarity could protest at all, she chuckled. "Heh. 'lil Sapphire Rose."
