Nevada didn't know when she started to do it, but there were claw marks on her skin, from her own doing. she couldn't feel the pain anymore, but it was a test, when they didn't heal, she kept adding to them....then to her next arm...
At this point, the scratches were deepening, drawing blood. She wasn't healing....She would never heal.
She couldn't go to the infirmary, and where the medical good were...So she sat outside the Life hallway, trying to cover her arms, staining the blood into her jacket and staring at the walls that denied her.

Sherry had to do a double take. It wasn't unusual to see folks looking a little haggard in this part of the compound, and even less unusual to see blood. What was unusual was seeing someone she recognized, and clearly seeing that something was wrong. She stopped and turned, not even caring about where she and Jake had been headed. Nevada was sitting there and she was not well. Sherry trusted Jake to follow. "Nevada? Nevada why are you bleeding?" There were a million questions she could have asked, but she went with a direct one. Take care of the blood first, then figure out why Nevada was just sitting there next to the hallway where help could be found.

She didn't need to say a word, as he was already headed towards the mist hunter. It had been some time since he had saw her, and he had been meaning to tell her at some point that he had finally patched things up with Sherry, though... this wasn't exactly how he had planned to run into her.
"Nevada... what are you doing here?"

She tried to tug at the sleeves more, her gaze drawing from the floor where she sat up to the pair that had come.
Jake and Sherry, Fighting, Love...Thoughts and memories and things raced through her brain. Full hunters, Friends. They were friends.
"I can't go to the infirmary..." She muttered, stop the bleeding, it only gets worse. You don't heal.
"I can't go to the infirmary, they won't help. Sorry, move on." She kept muttering, "Don't heal, don't heal. Leroy can't heal me..."

"What?" Sherry knelt next to the girl, giving Jake a questioning look. "What do you mean? Why won't they help? What happened to Leroy?" She meant her weapon right? If it couldn't heal her, then she should be in the infirmary. But why wouldn't her weapon be able to help? Sherry was clearly out of some loop here. "Nevada, what happened?" Reaching out, she took hold of the girl's arm. "Come on, tell me about it while we go get you looked at."

Jake crossed his arms, evidently not satisfied with her answer. And to think she gave him crap for being reckless. "Did... your weapon get broken?" He was pretty sure his fear shield was offline during that time too, but he did his best to stay away from dangerous missions, and had those runic daggers, so...

"They don't want me there, No. Only Hunters get help in there." She jumped as Sherry grabbed her, pushing the girl away. "why do people keep asking me, I'm dying. how many people do I have to tell before everyone knows."
She snapped, looking up at Jake and then back down with shame. Anger, Sadness, Pain. It was so easy to switch from the three.
"I can't go, Leroy's dead. I don't have time. Let go." She took her arm back. "You can't heal me..."
She hushed....
"Leroy is dead. Dead. Like Me."

Broken? Jake's question made sense, broken was a plausible reason-- "What?" Sherry said again. Dying? Leroy was dead? Sherry remembered when Chester had been broken and they'd been told that the death of the weapon would mean the death of the hunter. "Are you sure?" It was a silly question, of course she'd be sure about something like this. "Oh, Nevada." Sherry didn't know what to do...but she did know leaving her friend sitting there like that was NOT the thing to do. "I'm so sorry," she said, reaching out to pull the girl into a hug. Sherry was selfish like that, taking hugs. Sherry looked to Jake, wondering if he had any suggestions.

For once, he missed the lax, touchy-feely Nevada he had been so accustomed to. Seeing her so dejected and so... so... well, so much like how he once acted was kind of unnerving. "Nevada. If this is a joke, it's not funny. You are a hunter, and your weapon's not dead. If he was, you wouldn't even be alive right now. He's probably just in a state of sleep. Have you tried calling out to him?" He would have suggested what Mark had told him, to train and expose herself to fear, but in this current situation, the last thing she needed was to be put in a reckless and dangerous situation.

"It's such a shock..." She started to mock, "Such a shock, you and your weapons that don't break. They weren't killed, they didn't break and take you away, the core away." She didn't want hugs....
Her arms wrapped around Sherry.
"You guys are still hunters, You guys are safe. You won't die...." Nevada looked over at Jake, "He's dead. I don't hear his voice, I have his stone tablet, I don't have anything."
She closed her eyes and tried to say it more clearly.
"I am Dying." She said, "Because my weapon doesn't have a bond to me. That is why I can't go to the infirmary, that is why I can't be a hunter, this is why. These things are why."

Sherry's first response was to hug the girl tighter. Nevada was dying because her weapon was dead. Everything about the girl said she wasn't joking, as much as Sherry would have liked for that to be true. What Jake said made sense... how long after a weapon died did their hunter die? Too soon. No time. Just like Nevada had said.
Little pieces of Sherry's heart broke again. Nevada had already been through a lot, and now...
"Okay. Maybe you can't go to the infirmary, but you can come with us, right?"
Jake was given an meaningful look of 'you'll help me with this, right?' Even if they couldn't get Nevada all the way back to the dorms, anywhere but here was decent.
"We can get you bandaged up and..." Jake was given another look.
Really, Sherry didn't know what to do besides apply bandages and hugs. And that broke her heart more.

"You're lying." Something in her voice told him she wasn't, but he refused to accept the facts. Just how many had died before? None of the deaths mattered to him. He kept his distance, kept ties loose, and it made everything just a bit easier when you barely knew their name or face. Just another body. A soldier. A nobody. Disposable. But this was Nevada, the girl who always pestered him no matter how much he made it quite clear he wanted nothing to do with her. The one who always seemed to appear when he least wanted her to. The one who listened to his problems, who always wanted to help, who made sure he tried to patch things up with Sherry, and it was thanks to her that he was able to fix that bond. She had helped her so much when he hadn't even asked for it, but he... when she needed help, what could he do? When he wanted tell her the good news, why did it have to be the last time he would tell her anything? WHY?
"You... can't be dying. You can't. How... how can this happen... you..." He grit his teeth, clenching his fists in anger as he glared at the dying girl. "I refuse to accept this. What the HELL Nevada, what the hell happened? Sherry and I finally... this... I can't accept this. There has to be SOMETHING we can do."

Nevada started to feel confused. Why would she lie, why would anything about her lie? If she could lie, why would she lie about dying? She wanted to lie about Living!?!? She wanted to tell them she was FINE and that she'd be OKAY and that these were just scratches from TRAINING. Not that she did it herself, because she was trying to reclaim something she didn't have.
"It happens because I am one of the worst on the Island." Worse hunters, worse friend...Selfish, and demanding. Flirtatious and coy. She betrayed her leader, this was her reward. Even if it was delivered at the hands of her new leader, her father figure.
"Halloween broke it..." She gave him a dead pan look, "Halloween took my weapon." Lance did though, it was an accident. "I don't know...I don't know if there is. I haven't found anything, I've been looking, I've been searching but I haven't found anything."
She bit her lip and rubbed at the hunter coat, sticking to her jacket. It itched.
"I can go, sorry, you shouldn't be here. I'll go."

Sherry was feeling confused in her own way, and rather helpless. The need to offer comfort to her friend clung to her and held her in place, but the lack of being able to fix it hurt and made her want to run. Jake, it seemed to Sherry, was feeling much the same, and expressing his frustrations in anger. She would have told him to hush, but Nevada was responding to it. "No, you won't go." And she wasn't one of the worst on the island, even if she was obviously lost. I've died, Sherry told her weapon. Nevada couldn't be dying, could she? Like Jake said, she was still alive now. Nevada wasn't dead, and Sherry... couldn't imagine her actually dying. Jake was right, Nevada was wrong, she'd be fine. But Nevada wasn't dead now, not yet. Sherry's eyes stung and she told herself not to cry. "You won't go. You'll come with us, and we'll...we'll do something about this." Sherry patted the girl's arm. Or they could stay right there, Sherry was flexible about where they were, as long she knew where Nevada was.

Part of him wanted to march off in anger, refuse to believe anything she said, but something deep down seemed to say her words were nothing but true. She was slowly dying, and there was nothing he could do about it.
"You're not. Don't say that." He gave her a peculiar look when she said that Halloween had broken her weapon, but let it slide. "No. Stay. You don't have to tell us what happened if you don't want to, but you shouldn't be alone right now."
