B'Elanna had left the pleasant company of Thane, Bernadette and Cato with a little bit of remorse. The trio had been an interesting mix to spend a little time with but she had another, more important, task to complete. Gaston was still out there and she was now more than ever determined to find the stallion. It was getting harder to find others who were willing to admit if they had seen the stallion or not.

Although the sun was shining down from a crystal clear blue sky, B'Elanna felt a bit of a chill run over her flank. The temperature was still a little on the cold side but it was starting to warm up. Although it meant walking through large swatches of muddy ground, B'Elanna wasn't about to let that bring her hopes down. What it did mean was that she stopped frequently at streams and small bodies of water to clean off the grime that clung stubbornly to her hooves. She wasn't vain in the least but the feeling of grit and mud stuck to her feet was enough to drive her to wash away the muck.

His fathers had told him things like this happened. He knew that, he did. But what he had not realized was how bad it would hurt. He had fallen in love, fallen hard and...well, it had ended badly.

There had been promises of forever, exchanges of how life meant nothing without each other...And yet, forever had wound up being much shorter than he had thought it was. A lifetime was condensed to mere months.

All the warmth he felt was gone, and he was left a cold husk trying to deal with what was happening to him. She was gone. It was over. There was nothing to be done about it but to move on.

But he couldnt' go back home, not now. He couldn't talk to them about it. They'd mean well, but they'd ask too many questions that he didn't want to answer. He'd answer them not wanting to be rude, and it would hurt so much more because it was so close still.

He splashed into the water, not even paying attention to the mar who was on the other side.

B'Elanna had been deep in concentration in focusing on the little particles of grit that still stuck in her hooves. She let out a growl of frustration. What would it take to get the dirt out? Her frustration boiled over with a rather uncharacteristic act as she stormed through the water. She would settle down once she reached the other side. However that moment didn't come.

With a surprisingly loud grunt B'Elanna crashed into another warm body. The recoil from the direct hit caused B'Elanna to stumble back in shock. What had just happened?

Her gaze flew up to the sight of a stallion of brown coloration before she hastily spoke, "Oh, I'm so sorry. I didn't see you there."

Kurage found himself unceremoniously sitting in the water, confused and dazed. He looked up a the mare who stood up above him, and eyed her in confusion for a moment. "I'm sorry, my fault I'm sure."

He struggled up to his feet, still in his black and depressing mood. "I should have been watching where I was going. I was...distracted. I just..."

His voice trailed off not sure what to say.

As B'Elanna gathered her wits from the heavy collision she heard the stallion apologize for crashing into her. B'Elanna resisted the desire to quirk an eyebrow at the brown coated stallion now sitting in what seemed to be cold water. Her hooves seemed to have been cleared of any remaining grit and now she wondered what to do with this newest surprise.

Stepping gingerly to avoid slipping on hidden rocks B'Elanna made her way over to the stricken stallion. Her gaze softened before she nosed at the stranger. "If it makes you feel better I wasn't looking where I was going either. How about we share the blame? C’mon. Sitting in this cold water isn’t going to do you any good."

Kurage shook off the water without thinking, the cold water going everywhere. He stopped suddenly, "I'm sorry. That was rude." He'd probably soaked her, and why? Just because he was in a bad mood? That wasn't right or fair.

He signed, "I'm sorry. I'm usually more courtesious than this. But I seemed to have forgotten my manners in my distraction. Forgive me?" He still felt sullen and angry, but it was no reason to take it out on her.

B'Elanna felt water sprinkles hit her back and surprisingly enough she let out a small chuckle at the sensation before listening to the stallion apologize again this time for apparently soaking her. The mare hid a smile before letting the stallion finish speaking. B'Elanna stepped forward before dipping her head to the stranger. "There is nothing honestly that I believe you need to apologize for. These things happen and it is no one's fault at all."

B'Elanna paused for a moment before studying the stallion carefully, "are you alright? You seem really upset. Please is there anything I can do to help improve your day?"

The mare waited quietly for any response from the seemingly morose stallion. She still stood in the water and gently swirled her front hoof around in a circular pattern as she continued to wait.

The mare laughed, she seemed joyous and kind. He smiled a little at that, until he remembered how often she had smiled. His face fell as he thought of her, of stars and brightness. He thought of the nights they'd laid side by side, soft kisses and shy smiles.

First love, his brother had warned him kindly but his sisters had asked him questions and questions. He told them he'd bring her to meet them one day soon. Then he had went to her, and they had stayed together awhile enjoying their aloneness.

And just as quickly as it came together, it fell apart.

He shook the thoughts from his head and stopped himself before apologizing again. "I don't think so. A mare, I loved...love," he corrected. "She left me and and I am left trying to process it all. To go home and tell my family that she did not love me enough to stay."

He shrugged his heavy shoulders and kicked the water a little, and even that reminded him of her. Why must everything remind him of her? Each wind, each flower....each ripple in the water.

A love that was not returned, why did that sound familiar? B'Elanna felt a slight pinch of familiarity in this bizarre situation. This stallion had felt the sting of rejection. It took a cold heart for one to brazenly declare that they had no feelings whatsoever for another. A moment passed and B'Elanna realized that although she had never openly rejected Gaston's advances; running from them was probably just as bad. Possibly even worse as it had really confused her for the longest time why she ran. The mare took in the stallion before her again with a deeper sense of understanding. On some small level he was beyond miserable and thus anything that she said probably wouldn't have an impact.

B'Elanna sighed gently stuck in a small dilemma. Would her next move be welcomed or shunned? With a purposeful stride B'Elanna walked right up to the stallion and stuck her face in his. "Look, what happened is terrible. I admit I possibly have done the same thing to a friend back home, but moping around isn't going to fix anything. You have to take action and do something. I am taking my own advice and attempting to fix my mistake. I deeply care, no scratch that, I do love this individual and I want him to know it. Running away with your tail tucked between your legs isn't the way. Trust me!"
