Kale had spent a hard few days research. By research of course, he meant speaking to some of the elders of the pride. He had the delight of knowing his grandfather, who, the father of over 14 cubs, was able to tell him much about the history of the Pridelands.

He had been here a long time, that was for certain. Before he joined he was a rogue, as a juvenile. Kale was lucky to be able to speak to someone with such experience in life both inside and outside the pride.

Even more interesting was his grandfather Mahiri's old friend, Maawio. She was a very old lioness, but beautiful all the same. Her fur shone the same as sunbeams and her eyes did too when she spoke. He had found it such a pleasure to speak to someone who had been in the pride for so very long, longer than Mahiri indeed. She remembered Mufasa, and when the pride was much much smaller. Many of those early couples had large and prominent bloodlines now. Kale found family trees were a hard part of history, they could be so confusing.

He sat in the shade under a large acacia tree, trying to remember everything he had been told, and trying to process it and understand everything that had happened. The war too, was a gruesome detail over which he pondered.

It had been a few days since Mati had decided to stay within the Pridelands permanently. It had been a choice she thought long and hard over. Her family was scattered to the winds and she had no hope of finding them at all.

Of course, she wouldn't remember them after she started her search, she thought. That's what had her wandering before, forgetting things constantly and just stumbling along and hoping for something to jog her memory.

but she hadn't forgotten a single thing, really, since she got to this place. Seeing it everyday helped her retain the memories. It didn't hurt that a kind seer reminded her of things she forgot.

The point was now, though, was that she was lost - lost in the lands that were to be her new home. She continued on, though - it wasn't as if she had not been lost before.

Whilst he looked over the land in deep thought, he saw something new.

Sure, there were a lot of lions in the Pridelands, but it was his hobby to make sure he knew a lot about everything, past and present. He had to admit the past interested him more than the present, and certainly the future. The future could intrigue, yes, but it was really a hard thing to understand as it was such a mystery.

He had taken to learning a lot of lions names, family trees, but he hadn't seen this one before. Maybe he missed one, it was entirely possible with such a large pride, but the way she walked made it obvious.

The chocolate coloured male hauled himself up from his spot under the shade and padded towards her with a rather serious but still friendly looking face.

Needless to say, Mati was a bit surprised when another had simply strolled up to her. Was this how life was in a pride? Everyone she had observed seemed fairly friendly after all. She had never been in a pride before - or had she.

"Hello," she greeted amiably. My he did look rather serious! Maybe he could help her though! "I'm quite new... to the pride, that is." She explained. "I'm not quite sure where I am right now."

"Hello. I am Kale, son of Mia and Mheetu. Pleasure to meet you." He nodded at her admission of being new.

"Ah, we have newcomers quite regularly, as this is a large pride after all." He took a deep breath and a look around himself.

"I can help you with that!" He exclaimed, looking rather proud of himself.

"As such a large pride we have a very long and diverse history, if you would care to learn a little about it as we walk, I could show you around and explain a little, if you'd like?"

Mati was quite relieved that she didn't look silly for not being able to find her way around. She felt out of place, but the pride was starting to feel more at home. Every time she got lost, though, she felt like crying. She wondered briefly if she would ever be able to find her way around the large pride.

"I'm called Mati," she gave her name in turn. It was one thing she hoped she would never lose." "I would like that, thank you very much Kale, it's a pleasure to meet you as well."

"You're very welcome!" Kale was doing his best to make sure that he was friendly and approachable, something that was a must for his future job, after all.

"We have historians here, as well as scouts, and I suppose a member of the Royal family accepted you into the pride?" He tilted his head slightly, his red-coloured mane flopping over his shoulders.

Padding alongside Mati he nodded to Pride Rock. "Pride Rock houses the royalty of the pride, along with some of the oldest families. Simi is the current king, and he is the grand-son of Mufasa, who you may hear a lot about in the days to come for many reasons."

"The pride has grown very much in the past few seasons, because it is safe, although there was a war in the more recent past, but it has helped us to stay vigilant. There's no need to worry because we have great scouts." He didn't like to inform others of the war, but it was a necessary part of their history.

"The watering hole is over in that direction. Lionesses usually bring their kills to the base of Pride Rock, but with so many individual families, practices differ now. There is a nice shaded area in that direction" He moved his head around to point. He could go on but he figured it would be best not to overwhelm new company.

The royal family. She could recall someone, but she wasn't quite sure if they were a royal someone. She nodded, though, assuming the lion she remembered was. She hoped so, at least. Was she even part of the pride?

She wouldn't be getting a tour if she wasn't though! Hopefully.

She stayed silent, listening to the other speak of the pride's history and key features that she could only try to remember. "It seems very safe," She told him. She hadn't wandered back across the borders yet, so that had to count for something.

"So the lionesses without families - do they still bring their kills to the base of Pride Rock?" She asked. she was a little dizzy with all the information she was given, deciding to focus on hunting instead of the war.

She could hunt - that was one thing she was good at.

Kale nodded deeply, hoping that he wasn't overwhelming the newcomer. What good would he be as a historian if he was unable to inform others and rather confused them? He shook his head internally, his serious voice rumbling across the ground. It had a rather low and whole earthy quality to it, he supposed it suited his historical ramblings better than say, a whining high-pitched voice.

"They do yes - usually. But as I said there are differing practices sometimes. You will pick everything up as you go along." He smiled at her again, this one more genuine, reaching his eyes.

"I am here if you need anything."

He considered it his duty to aid others in the pride, they were a big family after all.

Mati gave a small nod. She would probably follow the example of the other lionesses when they were hunting, following their lead in what to do. She didn't really have a family to bring her kills back to, after all.

Not yet, at least.

"You've been very helpful," She told him with a bright smile. "I'll try to seek you out if I have any questions!" If she could remember him, that is. She would try - she always did, but that didn't always work out.

She was happy though, with her home so far. She really felt she could fit in here the longer she stayed. She couldn't really stop her quirks, but maybe that wasn't bad.

She gave a small bow and bounced away. "Next time~" She called.
