Custom: Semi
Character Name: Castor
Race: Oblivionite
Gender: Male
Clan: N/A
Class: When the time comes he will become a Warrior.

Appearance: I would like him to have medium length hair that's a bit wavy with one small tuft of hair that's lighter than the rest.
I would like him to have clothes that are nice looking/stylish but practical and in some interesting colors, the artists here seem pretty amazing at doing that anyway though.
Lastly I would like his skin color to be lighter than his hair, I'm not picky what his skin color or hair color will be any combination that works for the race will do if it looks nice, I would just like his skin color to be lighter than his hair as the reverse seems off to my eye most of the time.

Personality:
Cautious: When Castor first meets someone new he tends to proceed with an air of caution. Growing up around many blowhard war veteran's, and some Oblivionites that aren't playing with a full deck of cards, he's learned to watch out for different signs in people before trying to extend his company. He warms up to people quickly though if after a little while in their company he isn't put off for one reason or another.

Tolerant of the other races and cultures: His mother, Medea, taught him tolerance for the other races as part of her campaign to have Castor have no interest in the Great Engagement. She warned him that some people might not be as accepting of him as he is of them, especially Orderites, and to be cautious. He has a natural curiosity for the cultures and styles of the other races. It may or may not be a problem if he meets a person of another race that he will be overly curious of the person's clothing, especially if that person is not interested in his company.

Happy: Generally Castor has a decent outlook on life, he is a worrier about more than a few things, but it doesn't usually get in the way of him trying to be happy. He doesn't like to stay down in the dumps too long, he tries to keep moving when he does get down.

Worrisome: He has problems with anxiety in a few different respects. The first and largest cause of his worrying is that he will turn out to be a disappointment to his father. He doesn't live up to his father's expectations in the field of combat, who wants him to follow in his footsteps as a strong man and a barbarian soldier. He's also afraid that his passion for sewing and his desire for being a tailor will make his father feel ashamed of him. He's also more than a little worried about what will happen to him after he dies, as he knows that because he is an Oblivionite he has no soul.

Bothered by his race: He's generally bothered that he's an Oblivionite for a few reasons. He's sad that he can't see in color, as it is going to cause him a lot of hardship in his desired profession down the line, and there is no guarantee that he'll ever become a Master and gain the ability to see in color like every other race can. Sometimes when he's alone and he gets to thinking the fact that he has no soul bothers him greatly, he has no idea what will happen to him if he dies or if he will continue to even exist in any way. Other Oblivionites seem okay with this but it is a cause of grief for him as he isn't comfortable with dying for good, or that because of this he may never get to truly know his twin brother Pollux in any form of afterlife.

Less than confident in his abilities: Because his father isn't proud of him as a strong man, he's worried about his abilities as a fighter. He perseveres because he knows that it will be much easier to get skins and supplies for his craft if he fights monsters, but there's always that little bit of doubt in his head that makes him cautious when he fights and afraid he won't be able to do it. He thinks that fighting smart is important. When it comes to the idea of fighting another person he's afraid that he'll hurt or maybe even kill them, or worse that they might do the same to him.

Biography/Background: Castor's father Tyrious was a brave warrior in some skirmishes between Oblivionites and Orderites back in his day. He values physical strength as an attribute in a person above all others. This is closely followed by a respect for the personal strength of a magescian's character and their ability to stick to their values or overcome hardship in their life. He met many of his friends on the battlefield who quickly became as close as brothers to him, many were struck down by Orderites during small conflicts. After meeting Castor's mother, Medea, he began to slow down in small increments. Over time Tyrious became less interested in fighting and more interested in Medea. He took up a trade that he thought would help his race's cause without having to be one of the more active fighters in his group by becoming an Engineer. He helped to create small and medium sized strongholds and bridges for his fellow combatants to help in their cause. He slowly pulled out of his life as a Barbarian for the cause even more as time went by. Eventually, encouraged by Medea's protesting, he obtaining a permanent residence on the outskirts of Obsidian city should something ever actually go wrong. In his final battle he lost his right leg to an Orderite warrior and was forced to retire and slow down much faster than he had wished. A year after his accident he married Medea and she became pregnant with his twins.

Medea is trained as a mage, specializing in dark magic like most of the Oblivionite mages. She is extremely neutral over the Great Engagement even though her husband is enamored with it for his ideas of gaining glory in battle. For a long time during her teenage years she worked alongside her father in his Blacksmith shop, which is where she first met her future husband Tyrious. She quickly fell for him but he was slow to realize her affections and it took her telling him outright that she had feelings for him for him to find out. It was not really a relationship at first as much as they were pen-pals when he was off in battle but he started slowing down and going off to fight less and less as they got closer. They were dating by the time Tyrious's leg was cut off and it took that event for them to tie the knot, after a year or so of Medea living with him in his home and helping him learn to walk again.

During Medea's pregnancy there were complications and when it came to term, the first of the two twins to come out was larger than the other but sickly and did not live more than a few days and was named Pollux. The second was Castor who was smaller but healthy. He lived on and was raised by his parents on the outskirts of Obsidian city getting two very different upbringings from his mother and father. Tyrious tried to teach him to become a strong man like him, and while Castor did okay with these lessons and combat he did not ever quite live up to his father's expectations in this regard. Medea taught her son about crafts and jobs and things of "beauty" and to be a strong person. To help in this regard Medea introduced Castor to her older brother Julius, Castor's uncle, who had taken over her father's Blacksmith shop. Julius started selling fine cloth and leather through the shop and dabbled in doing work as a tailor. After creating a nice outfit for Castor that he thought suited the boy, Castor fell in love with the idea of making clothing for people. Whether it was as things of beauty to be worn and show someone's personal style or to be used for practical things like work or battle, the craft intrigued him and his uncle influenced the path he would take in life. Julius has promised to teach Castor what he knows once he's old enough to start learning a trade.

Medea tried with all of her might to keep Castor from becoming interested in the Great Engagement as Castor grew up. She told her son stories of some of the horrible battles in the war where hundreds of people had fought and died for a goddess who didn't seem to even care about the affairs of the Oblivionite people enough to give them relief when they died in the form of an afterlife. Castor was always reminded of some of the tragedies of the war when he even looked at his father, as a wooden foot has a bit distinct when compared to a real one. Medea also went out of her way to teach her son to be tolerant of the other races, even though one of them cut off his father's leg, she tried to keep him from hating the Orderites and his father spoke very highly of the Dovaa. Though he still has a few stereotypes of the races in his head he seems to have learned that you should judge people on a case to case basis, and that other cultures are interesting. Over time he just stopped having any interest in fighting in the war, even if his father kind of wants him to. Medea worries that if he ever does go off to war he'll die and she won't have any children, or hope of grandchildren in the future.

Castor had a nice childhood, his parents both love him even if his father does seem ashamed of his boy at times lately. His training with his father was a source of fun for him when he was younger but as it started getting more intensive when he hit ten or so he started getting worried that he was making his father ashamed by not living up to his expectations. His mother was and continues to be extremely loving towards her son, being the more gentle of his two parents, and dotes on him a bit more. His parents argue from time to time about the other's method of teaching their boy, but they try never to do so around Castor, sending him of to Julius's for a while if they ever need to have a serious discussion. Tyrious worries that Castor won't be strong when he's older because of his wife's dismissing his training for things like painting or crafts, he isn't ashamed of his son as much as he's worried about his future and that he might not turn into a strong man or be able to protect himself. He faces a bit of inner turmoil over a small rift between himself and his wife over their methods on teaching their son, he respects Medea's conviction on not wanting him involved in the conflict between the races but he wanted Castor to grow up and be the perfect model of himself that he imagined a son would be and with her teachings his son might not be the little soldier he imagined. He loves his wife dearly but their differences in opinion on what their son should be molded into is causing fights between the two that seem to be getting more frequent over time. Medea on the other hand is worried that her husband's training may make her son gung-ho about fighting, and will lead him to an early grave as he isn't quite as strong as Tyrious is or was, she's worried that she will lose her baby boy. They are both still very much in love though and are trying to do their best to make Castor happy and comfortable with them. The only source of sadness in Castor's youth was that his twin brother Pollux wasn't around for him to get to know or to play with. He keeps a journal of things he'll talk to Pollux about if he ever gets the chance, he knows that the Oblivionites don't have an afterlife but perseveres to write all of the interesting things down on the extremely slight chance there may actually be one though it is most likely a lost cause.

Thoughts on the Great Engagement: He doesn't have any interest in it, his mother went to great lengths to instill this in him. He would possibly fight in a battle or so if it was thrust upon him though and he was given proper incentive.

Thoughts on the Magescian Races:
Orderites: Well... one of them cut my father's leg off, but other than that I don't really have any problems with them. I do hear they are a bit pompous and full of themselves sometimes though, I've never met one in person before. I've been told that some of them won't like me because of what I am and to be as cautious as I am around anyone but I'd like to think they're okay.. right?
Oblivionites: We're a proud and strong people, some Oblivionites seem like they don't have a full box of rocks though. I'm fine with most, but if I have a reason I'm very suspicious of some.
Dovaa: I've never met a Dovaa before, I hear they're majestic and father says they're very strong. I hear they can turn into dragons... I wonder if that's true.
Hybrids: I've never really been told about them... different races get together?

Thoughts on the Dragons and Khehora: Dragons are useful, they have really nice and pretty scales I could probably use to make clothing, and Dragon Souls are really useful around here. I think I would like to fight one when I'm ready.

Skin color: He is a full blood Oblviionite so must be dark! So it cannot be light brown or tan but must be closer to a dark brown. If he was tan, he'd be a hybrid~ Can easily be made lighter than the hair though so no problem there! Just making a note of that so you know :3

Personality: Could use a bit of work! I'm not really getting to much of what he acts like. Shy-ish is all I'm getting. Maybe put down 2 bad traits and 2 good traits to flesh him out some more?

Bio:
After coming along Castor's mother Medea he began to slow down in small increments.
This sentence here is a bit wonky. Do you mean, after meeting Medea he began to slow down, not go out fighting as much?

Questions!
What made him want to be a tailor? Why (since his mother is a mage and father a barbarian/builder) would he walk this path? Is there a specific event that caused it?
What was his childhood like? Did his parents ever have arguments over how the other was trying to raise their kid? How did his mother convince him that war is boring and not to have anything to do with it?
How does he feel about being the only surviving twin? Does he feel like a part of him is missing? I'm a twin myself and my twin's my best friend and to not have her would be like losing a huge chunk of myself.

You have a really good start though! Unique concept that I think will be fun!

Info looks good, now to work on grammar! You'll need to get another staff to look it over for approval, maybe quote them in the main thread or in here? Umbra is under the weather, so not her. Brolis is coming back so he may be able to crit it. Uke is about, he'll be the next best choice. Tasi is somewhere XD

Also, the Great Engagement is in Peace mode right now! No active war, though there are small raids and conflicts! So you'll need to change some stuff up to reflect this! War has been unofficial for a while (like... character's grandfather's time?? Need to grab exact date...)
Grammar:
Quote:
He slowly pulled out of his life as a Barbarian for the cause even more eventually obtaining a permanent residence on the outskirts of Obsidian city to help calm Medea's nerves on him not having a place to return to should something ever go wrong.

Run on sentence. Please break this up into more manageable sentences! Like
"He slowly left his barbarian life behind as he worked towards the goal of getting a house on the outskirts of Obsidian city. He wanted to calm Medea's worries about not having a home already in place should something go wrong."
Quote:
In his final battle in the Great Engagement he lost his right leg to an Orderite warrior in a conflict and was forced to retire and slow down much faster than he wished, a year after his accident his wife Medea became pregnant with twins.

Again, this one is two sentences in one. Plus the red bit is redundant as you mentioned the conflict at the beginning of the sentence.
So maybe: In his final battle, he lost his right leg to an Orderite warrior and was forced to retire completely from fighting. A year afterwards .... etc.

You may want to put into a word doc and check over it there. It's easy to miss the run ons and stuff if it's in a gaia post. I can be a bit of a grammar nazi, sorry!

Quote:
who didn't seem to even care about the affairs of the Oblivionite people enough to give them relief, even in the afterlife.

...

he'll talk to Pollux about if he ever gets the chance in the afterlife, if there is one for them, and records all the interesting things that happens in his life in it.

Oblivionite's have no soul and know afterlife (that they no of!)

Glad you addressed the other issues! Other than the few grammar stuff and the afterlife issue, I have no problem!

You want to have a look at this? Also, Oblivs have no after life right? I may be thinking of something else but we did agree that no soul= no afterlife right?

Can you please break the history up into properly spaced paragraphs like the rest of his bio ? I should be able to look him over tomorrow once that's done.

I understand she's protective and wants him safe and to not join in the fighting, but if she's overprotective, why is she teaching her son to trust and be "open" towards a race that is made up mostly of those who will either be extremely racist towards, despise altogether or - potentially - want to kill him on sight? Shouldn't she at least be teaching him to be wary of ords? I understand people wanting to have characters that can mingle with other player characters, and that's cool to an extent, but especially with ord and obliv purebloods, being too open/curious can be as dangerous in a racist, post-war world as being too hateful. Food for thought.

He values strength followed by respect for strength? o.o Do you mean physical strength versus strength of character or something?

Also how does Castor's father feel about dedicating his life to a war - losing a leg to a war - and then having his mate, his partner for life, teaching his only living child that he ought to respect and give everyone a chance? I know he loves his wife, but wouldn't that kind of severe disagreement on a very major issue cause a bit of a rift?

I think that's all I have for you. xD I like him for the most part - especially the details about his twin "lost at birth" more or less. Neat tidbits. :]

The Only Black Uke

The first one is a good point, I didn't really think of that, so I added in a little bit about being cautious of Orderites. I thought at first his cautious personality trait would probably cover it, but then I thought that for a mother who's overly worried about her son having an early grave she'd most likely caution him to be careful around Orderites at least. Though I do still want to keep the small downfall of him ignoring the caution bit if he's overly interested in a person, might help him get some of the fights he needs later on, and little.. or potentially big flaws I suppose could keep things interesting.

Changed the second thing to be a bit more specific as well. I also went and added in some stuff on the effect of their different ways of teaching Castor on their marriage though there was a little bit already.

Well I liked the names Castor and Pollux for their greek mythology origins and I was debating which one to use. I thought in the end it wouldn't be the same if they weren't twins and because I can't get two characters at the same time I'd probably help the one's character to have something happen to the other. 3nodding

.

Looks good. I wonder why everyone's characters don't know about hybrids? I would think that parents would tell their kids that mixing of the races is bad? (mother seems tolerant, but da? Seems like he might tell his son that that's a bad thing)

Not an issue, as maybe he is just too young and hasn't really thought about it before. But something for you to consider in the future! That's the second stamp of approval for officialness!
