Tomorrow, February 28th, is Pearl's 2nd "Birthday."

Reason I have birthday with the "" is because she was brought home on that day. She was about 4-6 months old when we rescued her.

I'm far away from home and her, but hoping to come home early next week with a Fancy Feast meal and some catnip toy mice, and of course, me.

A quick story of her rescue:
Pearl was abandoned by her previous owners, we presume that it was due to coming of age of getting into heat and they couldn't afford the bill to get her spayed. She was dropped off in below zero degree temperatures at the animal shelter outside.

Pearl ended up going up the road from the animal shelter and going to a source of food, the restaurant my mom worked at. Pearl was found by the main chef who is a dear friend in a trash can looking for food and didn't know if she was feral or not. My mother stepped out with some leftover cooked meat to call her over. Pearl was out for a few days at this time and had received a paw injury and a head cold. Pearl came right up to Mom, purring, and ate the food.

Mom brought her home once she found out she was tamed, and not only that, well behaved. I came home from work and properly in small meals, fed Pearl. Pearl was only three pounds when she was rescued. Over the months, Pearl gained a pound a month and is now a steady ten pound (last she was checked which is a while ago) healthy cat. She was also treated for her cold and injury, got shots, and spayed.

Pearl and I bonded from the very moment we met. Our first interaction was her curling up in my blanket and watching Big Bang Theory with me (and sneezing a lot). I took her to all her vet appointments and paid for them all. I fed her, wiped her nose before she could lick her nose (That wasn't pretty), gave her meds (which she HATED), and made sure she had everything she needed. I had lost my dog the year before and never had much animal bonding until she came along. We're now little BFF's around the house. Pearl would see me come home and she never leaves my side.

Last time I saw Pearl, it was early this month, and we were doing what we normally do, curl up and watch a movie. We were watching Wolverine together.

So. Happy 2nd Birthday to Pearl! Here's a photo of her chilling on the back of the couch, like a boss:

She's an absolutely stunning girl! And very lucky to have wound up with such an awesome family - and I think you're just as lucky that she's yours! Very sweet story. <3
