Who: Pasha and Laz Where: Lab 305
Melisande knocked quietly on the doors of the Lab, trying to peer through the glare of the streetlights on the glass. It was evening, later than she usually came, but she'd had her hands full in the shop with Vi out sick. Despite her long day, she'd come dressed to help as always, hair already tied up and the sleeves of her fitted blouse rolled carefully back. Pasha smiled as Laz approached, waving with one hand.
In her other arm was cradled an early spring bouquet, with soothing lavenders and lush greens. She'd packed something special for the other Sigel as well, in the bag slung over her shoulder. Pasha backed up a bit as the doors opened, and opened her free arm for a hug.
"Good to see you, Lazarus. Any news?" She asked, same as she had for weeks. Melisande's voice was low and warm. The Muse had never given up hope.

It had gotten so late that Lazarus thought Melisande wasn't going to show. That was why he had locked up the lab already when the muse arrived. Nevertheless, as he headed towards the front to let her in, he couldn't help but smile softly at the sight of her, waving a hand before unlocking the door. He accepted the offered hug with one of his own before locking the door again when Melisande is inside.
"No. No change." It had been the same reply he had been giving her for as long as she asked. Lazarus knew she meant well, and is hopeful, but he himself couldn't help but lose a little bit of hope whenever it came up. Still, he couldn't let Melisande know about it, so he hid it with a polite smile.
Lazarus had looked a little paler and a little thinner as time passed. The dark shadow under his eyes had gotten more and more obvious as well. It was clear that the whole situation is taking a tow on his body and spirit.
"The lavender bouquet smells lovely." He said as he gestured at the spring flowers in Melisande's arm, as they headed towards Kyou's room. "I've prepared a vase for you by his bed side. I think he will like the smell of spring."

Laz's polite smile was met with Pasha's brave one. She didn't know how hard he was trying to hold it all in, but it didn't matter. Day after day, she put her most hopeful face forward. For both of them. But it had been a very long time...
The path to the room was familiar, by now. She tucked the flowers into the vase Laz had promised, and walked it to the sink silently to fill it up. It was hard to make small talk, so the Muse didn't bother. It was a charming trait of hers. When she spoke, it was genuine.
Pasha settled the flowers silently on the end table and 'sat' at the edge of Kyou's bed, draping her hand over his. They were always so cold.
"Lazarus? There's something I want to talk to you about." The blue of Melisande's eyes were unusually pale when she glanced up to Lazarus, making her gaze startling and intense. "I think Kyou will be okay. I see him in my dreams, sometimes…and my dreams aren't always…normal." It was hard to explain the connection between Angels and Muses and Fae, and the Realm they all shared, so Pasha didn't even try. Instead, she infused her voice with conviction and tightened her hand lightly on the Doctor's.
"In case Kyou himself makes a different decision…I think we should have a soul bottle ready. Right here." Melisande's eyes flicked to the end table, where she'd just set the bouquet. Silent tears settled in the corners of her eyes, but her smile never wavered. "Sometimes what life gives you can be a little too much. I understand that…I've been there. But I know, even then, Kyou would never want to leave you. What do you think of the idea?"
It was the hardest question she'd ever asked. There was a large chance that she would offend Laz so badly that she wouldn't be invited back…but what she was asking wasn't selfish in any way. After all the time she'd spent here, and all the love she'd offered, if Laz didn't want her back then Melisande wasn't wanted at all. She kept her eyes on his face, wings held tight against her back.

Kyou already looked better by now, since months had passed. Already there were lesser machines surrounding his unconscious form. His cheeks were no longer sunken, regaining some of the youthful look that was once there. His fingers were not so bony anymore as well, and with their diligent massages and physical therapy, he is looking better already.
However, there is still the issue of him still comatose, and recent scans had not shown any improvement in brain activity.
Lazarus was expecting them to just do the usual. Melisande would help stretch his limbs, give him a massage and would talk to him sometimes. And sometimes they would talk over tea, just about menial things like the weather and what the muse had been up to lately. In fact, Lazarus had already brewed some tea in the kitchen, and was thinking about getting it when Melisande spoke.
The suggestion came as a surprise, and it was apparent on the Sigel's face. His red eyes were wide and he drew in a quick breath with a small gasp. However, it was not entirely an enraged expression, he wasn't angered at all. He was just surprised the muse had the same idea is all, as the thought did crossed his mind once before, but it was quickly disregarded. Due to the mechanics of the soul bottle that he knew so well himself.
Lowering his eyelids, Lazarus shook his head. "That's not a good idea." He replied, his voice was steady and calm. "You see, soul bottles will draw out souls from a living body. Even if someone is not dead but in a compromised state, like Kyou. The bottle would draw out the person's soul since the connection between the soul and body had weaken, which will cause an immature death." Lazarus explained as he looks at the muse, hoping she will understand. "Kyou is getting better, I... don't want to compromise that. All the efforts we had went through to make him healthy again, it would have been a waste to give up hope now." If they were to opt for the soul bottle option, they should have done so much earlier in the stages. "He will wake up one day, I am sure of it." And for some reason, Lazarus had realized a new found hope that he thought had extinguished in his heart. Without realizing it, he too had held on to Kyou's hand as he spoke, and his grip tighten as he uttered those words.

Her hand stilled on Kyou's as she listened, fingers pausing where she'd been massaging. Pasha's eyes were wide as she took in every bit of information that Laz offered. "I didn't know they were capable of that." She admitted, her fingers closing protectively around the Doctor's hand, as though to shield him from her own poor idea. "I was hoping for a safety net. I would never…"
Melisande didn't bother finishing the sentence. Lazarus knew, more than anyone, what Kyou meant to her. And she could only guess what Kyou meant to the other Sigel. Everything he did to her, and more. Her smile flickered to life as Lazarus took his other hand, squeezing it gently. "He will be okay." She repeated. Especially because he had no other choice.
It was a dark subject, but Melisande was glad she'd gotten the idea off of her chest. Admitting to Lazarus that she'd had thoughts so grim about her own existence hadn't been easy, either. She trusted the Incubus…both with her secrets and with the situation.
"You've done something amazing, you know." Her voice was soft, and she started her hands moving again, working the Doctor's muscles. "I know you have…Jeremy…as well, but everything you've done here. For Kyou. For the Lab." Without a guardian, Melisande had no idea if Lazarus got to hear the simple things, like 'good job' or 'you're appreciated.' They were important to hear, especially when someone worked so tirelessly.
"I hope he will be very proud of you when he wakes up."

"It's okay." Lazarus reassured Melisande. She doesn't understand the mechanics of the work that is done in the Lab as well as him, or Kyou for that matter. It was an idea that made sense, just not very favorable at the moment. "I understand your sentiments, and I'm grateful that you care so much." He truly was. "But if it comes to that point in the end, I would reconsider it again..." It was a grim idea, and the fire Sigel felt that it is a decision that could only be made if Kyou's condition really worsen to the point of no return. Whether to really let him go, or to capture his soul or not.
The compliments, the subtle good job pat on the back brought a sincere smile to the Sigel's face. Melisande is truly a good and kind person. Even just a little, it fueled Lazarus's will to go on during these hard times. He never told the muse, but her frequent visits does help him a lot in bringing up his spirits. It gives him something to look forward to.
"I hope so too." Lazarus gripped Kyou's hand gently as red eyes looked at the sleeping man's face.
"Well, do you want some tea?" The fire Sigel suggested after a moment of silence, trying to change the grim subject of Kyou's condition. "I made some ceylon white tea in the kitchen. Jeremy imported them from Southeast Asia and they're really good."

"I would love some." She answered honestly, dropping her eyes back to Kyou's hand. Even in a situation like this, Laz was kind and gracious. Forgiving. Her eyes stung with tears at what she'd nearly suggested.
A few minutes passed. She waited until he returned with tea to speak. "I…didn't mean to overstep. It's just…" She released the Doctor's hand, glancing back up at the other Sigel. "I would have given anything…anything…for another chance to be with Zavier. Lazarus?"
The silence stretched for a moment. Pasha took a breath, obviously drawing courage. "You'd…tell me, wouldn't you? If there was any way to get him back?"

The tea pot was already slightly cold when Lazarus got back to the kitchen. So he poured some out and topped it up with some more hot water before carrying the tray back. The tea smells wonderful, and he hoped it would warm up Kyou's room a little too. It always felt so... sterile in there, even after so long.
Lazarus just listened quietly to Melisande as he set the tray down on the portable bed tray, pouring the tea into delicate teacups belonging to Jeremy. However, when Zavier's name was mentioned he paused for a moment, eyes glancing back up towards the muse. In that stretch of silence, he really didn't know how to respond to her, it just came so suddenly out of the blue.
He had to smile inwardly, out of the blue.
The fire Sigel knew about Melisande and Zavier's relationship, he had recognized that ring she was wearing around her neck. Although she usually tries to hide it in her clothes, he managed to catch a glimpse once. Lazarus wished he had good news for Melisande, even no news at all. However, that wasn't the case as he did found out something about Zavier recently, very recently.
Settling the teapot down once the teacups were filled, he offered a cup to Melisande. His expression was solemn as he spoke. "I was... rummaging through some of Kyou's journals. To find out if I could find a way to get him out of this state, you know? Magically." He wasn't referring to miracles, but sorcery. "And..." He had to take a gulp silently before he spoke the next part. "I actually found some notes on Zavier, after he was gone. Apparently Kyou did went to investigate the origin of the storm, but he only came back with the ring. In his journal he mentioned... that the fel essence cannot be recovered, the storm was the aftermath after the fel essence had... dissolved. Just like when Gage died..." The words were difficult to say, but he knew Melisande deserve to know this more than anyone else. "Kyou did left a soul bottle nearest to the origin of the storm in hopes of catching Zavier's soul, hoping that perhaps it was lingering around there. But it didn't work..."
A quiet silence followed as he let the news settled in, this must be very difficult for her, this pretty much killed all hopes of ever seeing Zavier again. "If... you want, I can let you see the journal?"

Pasha listened solemnly at first, nodding as Lazarus had admitted he'd researched even magical methods of waking Kyou. Pasha had done the same soul searching, pouring over her personal talents to see if she could imagine a way she could help Kyou herself. She understood the desire. As he spoke of Zavier, though, something curious happened.
The Muse didn't look sad. She looked relieved.
It was a weight off of her, knowing that Kyou had tried to save whatever he could of Zave. There was no missed opportunity, no wasted chance, as some part of her had always feared. If the Doctor couldn't do it, no one could. Pasha closed her hand around the ring she wore and smiled. She would always miss Zavier, nothing could change that, but the closure helped more than she could express.
"I'd love to see it, sometime. Thank you, Lazarus. For the offer, and for the answer." She accepted her tea cup, warming her hands around it as she always did. "You know…I'd like to keep helping, even after Kyou is awake, if you need me." Melisande took a sip and shot the other Sigel a grateful smile. It was wonderful tea.
"I know you probably won't need me, but…you feel like family now. I'd miss you. Both of you!" She set down her cup and reclaimed one of Kyou's hands, massaging gently with her now warmed fingers.

The tension Lazarus was feeling faded as relieved swept across Pasha's expression. Even if it's just a little bit, the muse's posture seemed more relaxed than just a moment ago. Her shoulder sagged ever so slightly, and the frown upon her forehead faded as well as she touched the ring she wore, a smile graced her lips.
This made him feel relieved as well, as he lets out a silent sigh and his eyes dipped towards his tea. He was glad that Melisande finally found closure, after so long, too long.
"The next time you visit, I'll show you the journal." Lazarus was embarrassed to admit, but he kind of lost track of Kyou's documents. He had poured through so many the last few weeks, he might need some time to find the correct one again.
"You're always welcomed here." Lazarus smiled as he spoke. "And don't worry, we'll be here to always welcome you. Trust me, we're not going anywhere." He said as he glanced towards Kyou. It's not like he could go anywhere in his current condition anyway.
