Underwater duty, it was one of the few peaceful duties left after the removal of pod duty for non-Life hunters. Lawr enjoyed watch duties. Chantelle did not, and it was her who arrived today and checked who she'd be on-duty with. Sasha, apparently.

She sighed, rolled her eyes and sat down to open her book, flicking the pages with her elegantly manicured nails, today painted with the usual uncanny ambidexterity in strange runic patterns. She'd like, read this book so many times.

It would be an interesting time, Lawr thought.

Sasha had always enjoyed underwater duty. It was quiet more often than not, and usually she could read or play her flute in order to make time pass more quickly.

Today Sasha was toting her flute along with her. She wasn't entirely sure whom she'd be on duty with, but when Chantelle came into view, Sasha's entire demeanor changed. She slowed, moving to stand near the dark-haired woman, her fingers brushing idle patterns across the textured flute case.

"Chantelle." Sasha's smile didn't reach her eyes. "What are you reading?"

Chantelle made very huffy teenage sort of tch sound. "It's only like, fifty shades of grey. It's like, totally famous." she said, voice dripping with sarcasm. "I don't know how you didn't like, recognise the cover." Never mind that her hands had been obscuring it to begin with.

She turned to finally look over her shoulder at Sasha and gave her a thoughtful look, her eyes artificially blue, wearing coloured contact lenses along with everything else. "And yeah. I'm Chantelle. Sasha. Guess we are stuck on this like, really boring duty together."

Butch wouldn't stop making that twisted sound that was half whine, half growl.

Sasha's eyebrows lifted, and she pursed her lips slightly as she moved closer to the other woman.

"I've never read it." Perhaps it was something she should pick up on her next leave. Then again, she probably wouldn't - because if Chantelle was reading it, Sasha didn't want to.

Clearing her throat, Sasha sat down very close to Chantelle, her leg very firmly pressed against the other woman's from hip to knee. Invasion of space had become something of a hobby for Sasha; if people drew away, she pressed closer. If they pressed closer, Sasha allowed it.

"Jerry tells me you play the piano."

This topic was one that had weighed heavy on her mind, one that she returned to time and time again. It made her curious. Very curious.

Chantelle froze up at the contact. She was not comfortable with people in close proximity and it showed. "Um like. Personal space." She scooched over away from the Life huntress, giving her an irritable look over her book.

"And yeah, I play a bit. I'm like, not all that great at it. But I'm like, decent enough. Why?" she was clearly unnerved by the other woman, using the book more like a shield than anything else.

As Chantelle shifted away, Sasha only moved closer. Predator and prey, a game of cat and mouse. It was entertaining to Sasha to see how far she could push someone, and Chantelle's reaction was absolutely delicious.

So was the perfume she wore, which brought back memories of dancing in the pod room with Jan. It took a long, long moment of Sasha staring at Chantelle before everything clicked together in rapid fire succession.

A slow, slow smile gleamed, too many teeth flashing past her parted lips. Sasha lifted her hand to brush against Chantelle's hair.

"I was going to suggest we play together some time, but that would be a little redundant, wouldn't it?"

Sasha laughed, low and dark, her eyes intent on Chantelle's.

"What perfume do you wear? It's absolutely divine."

Chantelle gave Sasha a long slow look as she was stared at and with that smile there was a deep suspicion that the other hunter knew. It was a deep inconvenience, she could tell Jerry, she could ruin the game if she was so inclined, this persona would have to be discarded and it would be such a waste.

She stopped wriggling away and let Sasha touch her hair. "Like. Maybe. I don't do that sort of thing." she said, looking away at the ocean windows that faced them, anything but Sasha. So few people held any kind of leverage over him, he was not afraid of being found out, he was not really afraid of anything. But he would rather not.

"Deep Night." she said, shaking her head, irritated that it had likely been the perfume that had been the give away. "It lingers like, way too much."

PostPosted: Sun Feb 23, 2014 4:47 pm

Sasha didn't know what game was being played, and she didn't truly care. It was nice to have a little leverage on someone else, but Sasha didn't want to exploit it. Not with this particular person. She'd been intensely interested by the man in the pod room, and this only served to increase that interest.

Sasha's eyes remained locked on Chantelle's - or was it Jan? - lips for a long moment, finally flickering up to her eyes.

"It does. But you wear it very well. I've been thinking about it ever since we danced in the pod room."

Chantelle still avoided looking at Sasha, as if mesmerised by the darkness outside the window, patient and slow, seeming to consider if she felt like dropping the mask or not. The only mitigating factor was the surveillance, but with the other hunter's comment, it was no great leap to realise what was implied.

Her expression dropped away, leaving only that blank void, her features seeming sharper just by virtue of the dissipation of expression.

"I like, assumed that was the case." he still spoke using her voice, but the bounce was gone. "You are much more perceptive than most. What will you do?"

PostPosted: Sun Feb 23, 2014 5:13 pm

"Nothing."

Well, that wasn't completely true, and Sasha hummed softly before amending her previous comment.

"I'll encourage Jerry, of course," Sasha purred, her voice low. "Why wouldn't I? He's quite smitten by you - though, I'll admit, I can see why. We're dear friends, and he'll listen to my encouragement."

She retreated, finally giving Chantelle space.

"I'm quite fascinated by you, you see. Your secret is safe with me."

Sasha watched Chantelle keenly, a terrible smile on her lips.

"Vous créature parfaite. What do I call you? Are you Jan? Are you Chantelle? Or are you someone else, when we are alone?"

He didn't believe her, after all it was naive to believe or trust anyone with any sort of intellect and he harboured deep suspicion for everyone. He did not challenge her statement either - as long as she maintained her word, things would remain interesting. Perhaps she was bored too, perhaps she simply wanted to watch the fireworks whenever they occurred. Either way it was sufficient.

He made no effort to explain why either. Simply nodded. "That would be like, the most beneficial course of action. He is happy."

She gave him another look, unreadable. "I am whoever you like want me to be. Names, for me are like totally a flexible, constantly shifting entity." She drummed her nails on her knee. "I will answer to anything you might choose to call me."

"I like the you with the dead eyes."

Sasha's voice was a low rasp in the room, and once more she was leaning close to Chantelle.

"And I don't really care if Jerry is happy. He's always been a train wreck. Did you know he once masturbated in my closet while I left him alone in my dorm room? I can't even remember why he was there."

Sasha waved her hand in the air. It was very difficult for her not to reach out and touch. To test the man's frame, to squeeze his wiry arms, to pull the wig askew, to smudge his makeup.

"I've found that Jerry's value lies in his love of chatting. Oh, how that man loves to talk about things he shouldn't. It's his most charming attribute."

Sasha fell silent and leaned back into Chantelle's space.

"What does Deus call you?"

You with the dead eyes. It reminded him of Susan, the singular time he'd ever gotten even close to irritation around her, one of those fleeting moments when ignorance was unbearable. She'd said later it was like everything went out of him, that he looked odd that he had dead eyes. She'd put it down to her being upset later, but he remembered the comment more than he remembered the woman herself.

He laughed out loud at the description of Jerry in a closet, it didn't surprise him. It didn't even surprise Chantelle. "He like. Seems like the kind of person to do something like that. He like, seems.." Repressed, scattered, unpredictable, useful. "like he has some issues. He can do what he likes in her closet. It makes no difference." he said, referring to himself in the third person.

"And I am aware of this predisposition. Chatting. And kissing." she shook her head faintly.

When Sasha moved back into her space, she tensed again. "They call me Jan." And it was technically true, he'd told Jane what to call him.

"Yes, he's got many issues. I thought that I loved him, once - a far stupider version of myself did, anyway." She shrugged her slim shoulders. "But if he trusts you - and I think he must - well. I think he'd be willing to die for you. He's always been willing to put himself in the face of danger for the woman he's got feelings for."

Falling silent, Sasha seemed to pout a little; she wanted to know the man's name - the name of the man with the clipped accent, the man who had crouched between two pods, the man she'd first seen in the pod room. However, as much as she wanted to press for more details, Sasha didn't.

"Jan, then," Sasha breathed, leaning in to deeply inhale the scent of perfume that lingered. "You intrigue me. I find myself fascinated by you, by the masks you wear. I question your motives, but at the same time I don't want to ask."

Sasha brushed the hair away from Chantelle's neck, moving her fingers along her exposed neck. She giggled softly, the sound an almost-purr.

"What's going on in there," Sasha was close now, her lips brushing against Chantelle's ear. "That's the most pressing question, I'll be honest."

It was obvious that Sasha cared nothing for the cameras that were constantly watching. Certain rules didn't apply to her, or so she thought, and it was clear that she did not care what was recorded.

The nearer she got the more difficult it became to keep the various personas apart. Chantelle would never tolerate the contact or the coaxing croons and questions. And Jan well Jan would want her and had. Underneath he was at more of a subtle loss to decide how he felt. Contact without a persona barrier agitated his pride slightly. After all she had no place touching the truly divine. But at the same time it only made sense she could not help herself. She would never really know him. Even seeking a name was approaching it all wrong. What he was had a name no longer.

"Die for me?" he looked shocked, the expression brief and without a doubt chantelle. "Oh no I'd never want to hurt him. He's silly like but that's not what I'd want." Not until he'd outlived his usefulness.

"As for what's going on in my head. Nothing." Nothing at all his entire life. Emotions muted and far away. Smothered to muffled silence. It wasn't even a lie but it sounded like one. "There is like. Nothing to know." Because to know you had to understand.
