That goddamned Tok'kal! The stallion fumed, heading off a straight gallop for the border. She's gone an' done it again. His ears were pressed back as far as they could go, frustration leaking from every pore. Bloody leavin' me wit' all da work. Anger gritted his teeth. His muscles strained as he pressed on, faster and faster. His back legs lashed out in a few furious bucks, making him feel just marginally better, though he didn't slow his pace around them.

The familiar lands flew past him in a blur. Usually he'd have taken to the air by now, but he needed to vent off his frustration, and there was no better way to do that than with some good old galloping or a damn good fight. A faint burn worked its way up his calves from the effort. It felt damn good. He lifted his head and threw it back, lunging up into a huge rear, throwing all his forward motion into it.

His hooves hit the ground back down with a thud, his breath heavy from the sprint. Ah won' do yah work for yah, Tok'kal, no matter what Malis says. He snorted, taking a step across the herd border. Ah'm not da kind of stallion ya can just boss around. Normally he'd have loved a good patrol, but was his one day off for a while and he was going to go exploring if that's what he wanted. He'd had this planned for ages! Besides, there was no threat in the area. The herd'd be fine, others were out patrolling too. He let out another contemptuous snort, rolling his shoulders to shake off the tension.

The mare waggled her little tail, a stiff breeze tousling the fur on it as well as the scattered mop that was her mane. Turning her head, her ears moving as she did so, flicking back and forth as she listened to the sounds around her, the grass rustling, a few of last years leaves that hadn't rotted into the ground skittering around, and distant birds calling to one another.

The land rolled before her, vast expanses of new green, edged in trees, and on the horizon, the inviting, though darkly looming mountains. Harlequin always liked this moment, the start of the day, the deciding where to let her hooves take her, and exciting thought that today would be the day she would have a grand adventure that challenged all her abilities.

Of course maybe it wouldn't, maybe the most she that would happen would be her daily routine of taking a climb, feeling the hard stones beneath hoof and becoming one with the mountain as she scaled the giddying heights, but in this moment she was eager to get moving. And so she did, trotting forwards, picking a direction to travel in at random, sort of heading towards a long line of tall trees.

She didn't want to travel any faster as she was hoping to spend the entire day looking for an adventure and she wanted to have the energy to do so, and she looked around all the time as she trotted across the grass.

Hakkar trotted along, feeling the tension leave his body as he moved forwards. Sure, he loved his home and his herd, but sometimes they were just a bit too much for him. He spread out his wings, allowing the light breeze to weave between his feathers. His thick mane billowed around his head as he took a deep breath, enjoying the fresh air. His mind cast Tok'kal aside. Today he would enjoy himself, screw the consequences.

He was sure he'd get an ear-full for it tomorrow, or whenever Malis caught up to him. The two were constantly butting heads. Of course, Malis usually won, but Hakkar didn't care. She could bring her worst. In this, he wouldn't back down. It was his day off, fair and square. Hakkar blew out a snort of warm air from his nostrils, flicking his ears backwards.

Seeing a nearby tree, he bent his head and began to rub his antlers against its rough bark. They could get extremely itchy, especially when they started to grow out. Layers of velvet were being scraped off by the trunk, giving the stallion a sense of satisfaction. "Ahhh, that's the spot." He moved down, scratching his neck against the wood before proceeding to arch his entire body against it.

There was little in the world so satisfying as a good scratching session.
