Witty Punching Bag

PostPosted: Sun Feb 23, 2014 6:10 am

Last Updated: 07.22.2014 -- tweaked his profile, virtues, and flaws a little.
Permissions to add to the Gallo family have been granted~

Name: Christian Xavier Gallo (yes, those Gallos)
Nickname: Chris, Chan (sometimes, and preferably only in the family)
Age: 22
Birthday: February 21 (1992) @ 01:42am
Sign: Aquarius // Pisces (cusp)
Gemstone: Amethyst
Blood Type: B-
Fav. Food: Italian anything, especially if his mom's cooking, and he's all over that like white on rice. Baked goods are also a good way to get to his heart on his good side.
Hated Food: Whatever his dad makes, or tries (and fails) to make. Coleslaw is also considered the bane of his existence, and most other dishes with excess mayonnaise.
School: Destiny City University

Hobbies:

Exercise -- If not for his family’s home gym, Chris would likely consider some local gym as his second home. He loves exercising because it helps keep him fit and relaxes him at the same time. He goes running at least three times a week, and he hits the weights twice a week. Chris keeps a pretty active lifestyle, though it’s not quite as varied as he’d like it to be. Whenever he gets the chance he goes and tries other forms of exercise (usually a sport of some kind, but he also enjoys going on hikes and other similar activities). It’s fairly common for him to invite his friends to join him, though he’s perfectly fine going on his own. He also participates in marathons and the like when he can; the challenge that comes with the training appeals to him.

Movies -- Another activity that helps him to relax. It’s his kind of escape from reality, more so than books can be (though he does read a good deal, too). When he needs a break during an all-nighter he’ll likely pop in a movie and heat up coffee to unwind a little before hitting the books again. Chris has an extensive collection of movies, and although it’s primarily all in DVD/Blu-ray format he’s held onto videotapes for sentimental reasons. On bad days he’ll likely huddle up on the couch and play a random movie or go to the local theater and treat himself; by the end he usually feels at least a little better. Chris doesn't have a favorite genre, and he can appreciate just about any kind of movie. His all-time favorite movie, though, is definitely The Lion King.

Piano -- What started out as something his mother encouraged him to pick up when he was only 5 years old turned into a real passion the longer he kept it up. Something about the way the sounds soothed him and helped to keep him focused. Chris practices everyday, without question. Even if it’s just for thirty minutes, he needs to play something everyday otherwise the day just feels as though it’s lacking. He tries to learn more current songs as well as classical pieces; he even has a compilation of his own compositions, though he prefers to keep those to himself. He recently upgraded to a Yamaha P-255, which he keeps in his room. His family also has a baby grand in the house, but he only seems to use that one when he’s in a bad mood.

Yo-yos -- Chris was first fascinated by yo-yos when he was just a kid (because what 6 year-old doesn't think all those tricks aren't awesome?). When yo-yos were suddenly the “in” thing to have he was all over it, and the hobby just carried over into his later years. Usually he does basic tricks while studying -- movement helps with memory retention, apparently -- but he’ll try learning a new trick every once in a while. He is by no means an expert, and competing has never crossed his mind, but he finds a good level of enjoyment in it. And he can kind of show off, which is also fun. He actually has a small collection (that gets bigger every year because he keeps adding onto it), one of which is usually in his pocket or in his bag when he’s out and about.

Virtues:

[+] Adaptable -- “You gotta learn to adjust, that way you can still work even if you’re not in your comfort zone.”
Chris believes his comfort zone is anywhere, at any time, in any situation. He’s always been highly adaptable, and while he usually has a plan to stick to, if the situation calls for it he can easily switch things up so things work out as easily or favorably as possible for everyone involved. Chris is usually among the first to, in any given situation, look past the negatives, focus on the positives and dive straight into whatever’s causing the problem so he can find a way to fix it. He’s also rather flexible with various personalities, and loves hanging out with people who dislike his company simply because he sees it as a challenge to get them to as least put up with him for however long he’s around. The “when life hands you lemons” saying is very applicable to him; he works with what he’s given, and he’ll try his damnedest to get the best results with it.

[+] Driven -- “Motivation’s usually something you find, but you can also just choose to be motivated. That’s me.”
Since being in a family full of high achievers is a constant reminder that he has expectations to live up to, Chris has never really needed to “find” his motivation. He’s always made the conscious decision to stay driven as often as he can manage. Chris enjoys being productive, though he’s not necessarily a workaholic, but he doesn't mind going that extra mile to make the end-product something definitely worth the effort and something that he can be proud of. This permeates most everything in his life; he’ll practice that extra hour, he’ll study that extra topic, etc. And the great thing, as far as he can tell, is that he doesn't really mind the pressure because he chooses to face whatever pressure he gets from his family head-on. The idea of shying away from it, while alluring on occasion, has never really been appealing to him in the long-term.
...** It might be worth noting that this is something about him that people may admire, but not necessarily like. He'd still call it a virtue, though.

[+] Responsible -- “Everyone has their priorities. You have to get ‘em right; handle your business first, then relax.”
Chris keeps to his priorities and sticks to his to-do list almost religiously. Some might say he even swears by it, though that might be an exaggeration. Really, he just know what he has to get done, when he has to get it done by, and in what order to get it done. He sets clear goals for himself and makes plausible plans to achieve them, even going so far as formulating contingency plans (and contingency plans for these contingency plans) for what he considers more important. And yes, this does include party-planning and the like. He doesn't mind doing the leg work. He doesn't mind being left behind to work on whatever’s left. He doesn't mind spending a few extra hours as long as it means he’ll get what needs to get done, done. Granted, not everything always goes according to plan, but Chris always plans for the worst anyhow.
...** It might be worth noting that this is something about him that people may admire, but not necessarily like. He'd still call it a virtue, though.

[+] Tolerant -- “Make your choices, live your life. I’m more worried about the person behind the choices, anyway.”
It’s a philosophy of his to live and let live. He’s very open-minded and, when meeting and making friends, doesn't take anything but their personality into consideration. Even then he doesn't really buy into the whole “first impression” deal so he prefers to get to know someone a bit better before deciding whether or not he likes them and wants to hang out with them or not. Whoever you are, however you look, however you dress, etc. If he likes you, he likes you. End of story. He doesn't let anyone else’s opinion of someone affect his own views about that person if he can help it. As for lifestyle choices, he’ll generally leave others to their own decisions (given it wouldn't be detrimental to them in any way) and only comment, and maybe even try to do something, if he notices that something’s gone wrong or if a habit’s gotten a bit out of hand.

Flaws:

[–] Escapist -- “I’ll admit I sometimes crumble under the pressure I put on myself, but it isn't that bad. Honestly.”
Overloaded and over-stressed are two words that anyone who knows Chris would likely use to describe him. Of course it happens, it’s bound to, and often enough to be considered quite the inconvenience when it does. When Chris is at his absolute limit, he drops everything that’s stressing him out and huddles onto his bed to watch a movie marathon or goes to learn new songs on the piano, etc., and this goes on for about a day or two per occurrence. He ignores anything that would remind him of the work that needs to be done and just...does nothing. Yes, he gets angry when someone tries to forcefully pull him out of his “happy place”; and yes, he has been known to get physical during such instances. When he get his head on straight again, though, he does whatever it takes to make it up to those he might have troubled along the way.

[–] Indifferent -- “Fine, so maybe it’d help if I cared more about certain things. Sometimes I just...don’t, though.”
It’s not out of the ordinary for Christian to shrug his way through various situations, conversations in particular. If he’s not interested, he just isn't and there’s little anyone can do to sway him. Unfortunately this can include way too many things and it can get rather difficult to find something to genuinely catch his interest. His indifference, in actuality, usually only applies to gossip or small talk -- he hates small talk -- but a lot of times if you’re not talking about something he can relate to, he likely won’t have an opinion and will, as previously mentioned, just shrug, maybe even nod, his way through to the end of the encounter. He could even get to be a little rude since he might none-too-subtly try and force the topic or activity toward something he considers more interesting. If that doesn't work, he's likely to just zone out of the encounter entirely.

[–] Killjoy -- “What? Sometimes things have to get done, and I don’t care if I have to be the one to do the reminding.”
Even Chris would admit that he’s a stick in the mud. Or can be a stick in the mud. But honestly? He doesn't give a damn who thinks the same about him. When a group he’s working with is goofing off or just relaxing from some project or another, and in the back of his mind he knows that somewhere, something needs to get done and they have to be the ones to do it, he’ll be the one to kill the fun. This applies to family and friends alike, and even teachers if he feels they need reminding. He’s the babysitter that every kid would hate; stickler for the rules, enforces curfew, pesters about homework in the middle of a TV show, that kind of thing. And he does this all the time, sometimes without even meaning to. Yes, occasionally he’ll apologize, but a lot of times he just feels he’s being the responsible one would pass it off and say, “Well, someone’s got to.”

[–] Temperamental -- “Even guys get moody, alright? So I can be a little sensitive. I don’t see why that’s an issue.”
Generally, he’s a nice guy, if a bit moody. Just a bit, he swears. Truthfully, he fluctuates between good, been better, and bad days, where in the worst case scenario he’ll go from all smiles to worryingly near depressed in a matter of minutes and stay that way until he damn well feels like cheering himself up. Of course, this also applies to all moods on the spectrum. He does have fits of rage or will maybe pour his heart and soul into a new composition because he feels like no one gets him; he definitely has those kinds of moments, and plenty more. And they happen on a more regular basis than he’d care to admit. He’s still productive and functional (more or less), but just...not his usual, pleasant self. He also gets a little touchy if someone points out his mood change, and will probably be in denial that it’s happening at all when someone does.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

Eyes: A light silver, with flecks of an icy blue if one looks carefully; they're normally bright and vibrant unless he's in a funk. He's also near-sighted and wears glasses because he finds contacts tedious (though he does wear contacts every so often). [click]

Hair: Naturally light golden brown [click], though it was once dyed black (the remnants of which are still at the tips of his hair), styled in a mohawk similar to this (though the artist is free to mess with it a bit if they want). He also has facial hair. [click]

Face: Oval shaped with a well-defined jawline; he has a clear complexion and no visible wrinkles (yet). He's relatively light skinned, but nowhere near pale or pasty. His expression is usually borderline stoic until something genuinely catches his interest. It’s not that he doesn’t care; that’s just how he normally looks.

Clothes: He's a simple guy that does his best to look presentable all of the time, though he refuses to change his hairstyle and shave his beard (and he doesn't give a flying fcuk who tells him to). He also has piercings on the outer edge of his right eyebrow (two, kinda like these, though he has a few more in other styles) as well as in both ears (let’s go with these for now, but he has more and in different styles) that he refuses to remove unless the occasion calls for it. Something like this with comfortable shoes to match (possibly similar to these).

Knight Title: Bilskirnir Page of Jupiter (click)
Challenge: ...
Uniform: Thor-inspired~ :B Like so, but that's more a (very loose) guide than an actual reference, I guess. lol There should be more of a traditional viking feel with fur and all that fun stuff, and the colors would have to follow the shop's Jupiter swatch/gradient. Primarily greens with the browns and grays for accents. click/click

Weapon

Pendant -- Like this, but without the jewels; medium-large in size and hanging off of a chain link that he wears around his neck.

Magic: None. It's pretty though, and likely very shiny.

Hammer -- Simpler version of Thor's hammer, a little on the smaller side (just a little bigger than a normal hammer, but with a head like Thor's hammer), perhaps with an extra decorative doodad or something. It is made out of a sturdy wood, with a cloth-like grip along the handle. The head is also made of the same wood, however it is covered in a paper-thin metal alloy (likely one that originates on Jupiter as it is virtually weightless), more for decoration as it has almost no bearing on the weapon's weight, and sports etchings in the metal (Norse design, though specifics are up to the artist). It is still rather light (around 3lbs) at this stage, but a little hard to use efficiently in battle.

Magic: He whips the hammer around (until the cloud is fully formed) and summons a thick thunderstorm cloud that crackles and is full of lightning energy. The cloud can be affected by the elements; for example, it can be blown away by the wind or severely dampered in the rain, etc. On top of making it rather difficult to see, anyone (allies included) caught inside the cloud experiences electrical sensations (think slight electrocution) that have a light stunning effect (they can move easily enough, but are uncomfortable), though it is less effective on anyone at a higher level than him. The cloud has a 5ft radius all around him, and can be maintained for up to 30 seconds.

Bigger Hammer -- Basically like Thor's hammer, a bit larger now (about 20 inches long, from end to end, with a proportionate head), perhaps with an extra decorative doodad or something. It is made out of a thicker, even sturdier wood, and has a leather grip along the handle. The head is now completely made of the same alloy that used to cover it, sturdy but still relatively light weight, and sports even fancier etchings in the metal (still Norse design, though specifics are up to the artist). It is slightly heavier now (around 7lbs), and still somewhat difficult to use efficiently in battle.

Magic: He whips the hammer around (until the cloud is fully formed) and summons a thick thunderstorm cloud that crackles and is full of lightning energy. The cloud can be affected by the elements; for example, it can be blown away by the wind or severely dampered in the rain, etc. On top of making it rather difficult to see, anyone (allies included) caught inside the cloud experiences electrical sensations (think slight electrocution) that have a stronger stunning effect (they can move, but with a fair amount of difficulty). The cloud has a 10ft radius all around him, and can be maintained for up to 45 seconds.

SUMMONS

Creature: An armored ram, about half the size of a large stallion. It can be ridden, though it isn't the most agile of beasts. It also isn't the most cooperative and may attempt to buck off its passengers at any given time if it decides it doesn't like them.
Ability: It summons a large bolt of lightning, the armor covering its body acting as the medium, which crackles (for effect; the crackling doesn't actually do anything) and flashes brightly, effectively blinding anyone within the immediate vicinity. It's effect reaches to about a 15ft radius, with the degree of blindness lessening (from completely white to just seeing spots) the further away the targets are from the source. The blinding effect can last for up to 10 seconds, with a recharge between bolts being around 45 seconds immediately following use.

Hey Pao

Talked to you before about the weapon and the changes look good. I think it works well now and the magic is good to go. The summons will need to be posted for approval once the quest is accepted, but it looks good too.

I only have a few small things for you to fix, as well as a question or two, so lets get into it.

For adaptable, responsible, and driven they all are well written, but its not totally clear how these things make other's like him. So just a little notes about how these virtues attract people to him and make them want to befriend him, would fix that.

Escapist is where I have questions. I'm confused as to why he would do this, when this seems like a flaw that would likely cause him more stress because of the virtues that his has? Its a little clashy and doesn't seem like something he would be prone to doing, though he does definitely seem like he would be overloaded and over-stressed. Like with the way he is, I can see him needing a break and maybe locking himself into a free task for a couple hours or a day, but I also see him getting sort of antsy about the things he's neglecting during that time. Does that make sense?

Lastly indifferent feels a little narrow? Does it apply, or could you have it apply out side of conversation?

Quote me back, when you are ready for another look over.

Hey-o~ Sorry for the wait! Mm, I'll try and give a brief explanation as best I can. :>

Adaptable is more like.. he's really good at looking at the positive side of situations and making sure that, if he's working with people, he helps to kind of keep their spirits up while making a plan to work through whatever problem is going on. The main point is that he easily looks past the negative so that he can start to formulate a solution to said problem. It applies to most any situation, I think; family dilemmas, school project debacles, nearly-failed birthday surprises, etc.

Responsible is basically things like.. he's almost never late to meetings or deadlines, he doesn't need to be told to do his portion of work, etc. I think it's a point that he might be more admired for rather than liked, but I'd still consider it a virtue.

As for driven, he thinks and dreams big and best and likes to put in the work to achieve that. He's that guy that pushes to make sure that everything he's involved with is at its best by the time it's finished and/or over with. He'll go the distance with everything, and he encourages whoever he works with to be the same way. Certainly not in a crazy, totally in your face kind of way, though. lol More like subtle "one more hour" sort of comments with a smile on his face while he's working or planning or something. Like his Responsible trait, I think it's more something people might admire about him rather than like about him.

I hope that kind of makes sense. While I wrote this up I realized he kind of reminds me of a friend of mine back in college who was really similar. Even gift wrapping was serious business. XD; Fun, but serious.

Escapist.. I can see where you're coming from. I think it'd make more sense for him to kind of go to his unhappy place for only a day or two at a time, rather than weeks. He'd also feel really guilty about it after, so he'll work that much harder to make it up to whoever he'd caused problems to.

Aaaand Indifferent.. yeah, I think it could apply. It's more like.. if he's in the mood, then he is. If he isn't, you can't force him to be and he'll be boring and blah and all in his "when is this gonna be over" mode. Does.. that make any sense? >o>;; I expanded using conversation as an example because that's where I could see it "in action" the most.

You're explanation are great and I understand them and see where you are coming from. If you can apply those things into the profile, flaw/virtues, you should be good. Quote me back when you have and I'll reread and you should be good to go stamp-wise!

Hey Kao~

I added and changed a few things up, highlighted them in green for ya~ For Driven and Responsible I just added a little note about how the traits would probably be more admired than something people liked about him, I hope that's alright. If not, I'll go ahead and do the small bit of re-writing to get it in there properly.
