Maebe was being such a good girl. It was yet another day waiting out on the sparring fields, half-heartedly hitting a dummy. She didn't want to practice on a dummy. She wanted another real person. The dummy never talked back.

So she'd been smacking away at it, waiting. Who would it be this time? She hoped Noah would be back soon. There were mistakes to fix.

"I warned you."

Mimsy was almost pleased that she had not even needed to go out of her way to confront Maebe - it was incredibly fortuitous to find her here, on the return from her excursion to the beach. So easy that it looked like she really had been asking for this.

"I was very clear. I spoke explicitly in regards to what you were not permitted to do." Her look was one of disbelief as she approached her, still absolutely amazed that she would have been this stupid. "In keeping with that trend: you may draw your weapon, or you may accept the end of your career on this island without contest. I am fair. It is truly your choice."

Well, it wasn't Noah. In fact, it wasn't anyone she wanted to see, but certainly not the person she least wanted to see. Mimsy was at best, a reminder of something terrible. She, herself, was nothing but a blight, a smudge that Maebe wished could be rubbed or washed off. She was just plain gross.

"Oh. Hi. I missed you too." She smiled, extending her hand out as her weapon formed within it. "You know, it's kind of an unfair fight between us. But you're not going to kill me. Naughty girl." Thaw was pointed directly at Mimsy.

"I touch whatever I want. If I want to touch Lucky, he's going to get well and thoroughly touched."

And, if she wanted to touch Mimsy, it was clear she was going to damn well do that, too. Thaw sunk deep into her shield, with a simple but forceful thrust. She wasn't fancy about her fighting, but she could tell all of the work practicing had made her stronger. She felt the surge of power rippling through her arms as she impaled the woman.

Yet all she could think was, God, I hope I don't start looking all muscley. That is so not attractive.

"I did not miss you," Mimsy sneered, summoning Svensyl by her side. Her fingers tightened around the hilt of the vorpal sword, blade shaking as she clenched her hand into a fist. "I hoped to never see you again."

The assurance of a fair fight was one that she immediately regretted, and she found herself stumbling backward as Maebe's weapon sunk into her shield. The girl knew that she outranked her - the false sense of security was already lost, and she'd missed her opportunity to strike first.

No matter. She could just hit harder.

"I suppose that you could survive. You were very careless with your wants. If I were to stay true to my word...well. I would need to remove your eyes...and your hands...and your head, wouldn't I?"

She struck her as she went through each item in her list, staying close when she stopped, sword held between them.

<Off with HER-->

"I warned you," she repeated, narrowing her eyes as she spoke over the sound of Svensyl. "But you wanted so badly to recklessly enjoy all that you wanted from life, that you strode proudly into your own grave."

She'd been rather proud of her first strike, and that pride resonated clear in her face until the sword came down. The continuous pain was a reminder that Mimsy was far more experienced - and far angrier than she was. Fighting fair just wasn't an option anymore.

If she was mad, Maebe needed to make her madder. She needed to be blind with rage.

"You'll have to cut off a lot more than that if you want to get rid of the parts of me that touched him, sweetheart." Maebe purred, flexing the sore muscles where Mimsy had struck. "I don't think your sword is ready to get that intimate with me, right now."

The trident clanged against her sword, before twisting and slashing across Mimsy's body.

"I thanked you the last time we spoke, because you taught him how to kiss. Maybe this time, you should be thanking me."

Passive defense was no longer one of Svensyl's benefits, and Mimsy had still not recovered from the sword's change in size. Her breath caught in her throat as Maebe's weapon pushed right past him. She coughed when a voice abruptly chimed in.

<OoooOOooh, intimate?! Callooooooh, agree! Aye!>

"If that is the case, then that is what I will do." Her eyes found her opponent again, gaze flickering from one limb to another. Calculating.

<Miiimsy!>

"I will provide you with a new warning: if I am forced to remove all of your flesh, I will find it difficult to stop there. The muscle would be too tempting to deconstruct. And if I were to split your bones..."

She pressed the tip of the blade insistently against one of her ribs.

<MIMSY.>

"My sword is incredibly eager to be as intimate with you as possible," she muttered irritably, rolling her eyes. "And I do not know why I would thank you for what you have done. What would I possibly feel any gratitude towards you for? Your incompetence? The fact that you took advantage of a man that you should not have?"

She scoffed.

Maebe laughed - a cold, crisp sound that held back none of its vicious contempt. "You sure do love to talk. How about I give you a warning. If you don't stop threatening me with physical violence just because Lucky enjoys himself with me, then I am going to stop being nice."

Yes. This was her. Nice.

The trident plunged into Mimsy's core again. "I don't want him for myself. Nobody should be one persons toy. But if you don't chill out, I'm going to do my best to cut you out of the picture. No bones breaking. No muscles peeling off. Just you. Alone. Without your precious little Lucky."

She had to wonder what the girl wanted him so badly for. It was starting to make her even more curious about Lucky. It caused such a drastic change in conversation, that it was jarring. "How long have you two been ********: 28

"I am truly bewildered as to why you believe that these are not actions that I would gladly follow through with. You should do your research," Mimsy chided, unimpressed. The side of her sword caught Maebe's wrist, as if she were a teacher scolding her student with a ruler.

"You should not concern yourself with what anyone should or should not do, if you are so adamant to protest when I do the same. Lucky wants what we have just as much as I do. You are fooling yourself if you believe otherwise. He would resent you for separating us. And, even if you did succeed, I would not be alone, because--"

Wait. How did she know about him?

When she really thought about it, she supposed that it was not any secret around Deus. Gossip spread quickly, and this story had to have run its course by now. Her stomach began to tie itself in knots, and nothing she told herself would calm it.

"I hardly see how that is relevant." Her stance was guarded, suspicious. Refusing to answer would appear weak. She was not weak. "One hundred and one days. Fourteen hours. Approximately twenty-two minutes."

It was rattled off so easily, as if she had hardly needed time to think. The only indication that her mind was elsewhere was a minimal one, a stiffness in her shoulders, a precursor to panic.

She knew the exact minute she'd first slept with Lucky. Maebe shouldn't have been surprised, but she was. Or, perhaps the feeling that boiled her blood wasn't surprise. She couldn't tell the difference.

"Yeah. Well." No clever retort? No scathing remarks? It was burning her up to have been caught so tongue-tied. She dove in to attack, but she missed, barely scraping the woman before the trident went soaring too far, and Maebe nearly lost her balance from it.

This woman was obsessed. Crazy, nasty, and obsessed - she felt a little sorry for Lucky, suddenly.

But not sorry enough to stop.

"Why him?" She pursed her lips tightly, holding back from what she'd actually wanted to ask. Why did it have to be Lucky? Mimsy should have fallen in love with a cockroach. That seemed more her type.

The inquiry was almost insulting, and Mimsy was momentarily lost in confusion. It was in this baffled state that she felt compelled to answer, in hopes that it might bring some clarity to this situation.

"Because he loves me in a way that no one else is capable of. I did my research for a full calendar year - he is the most optimal candidate with undeniable verity." She frowned and shook her head in disbelief. "Is it not apparent?"

Surely it was. No one else asked her this in the way that Maebe had. The tone was always different, favoring her; this time it favored him, and she didn't like it.

"Are you questioning me? Do you doubt my worth?" Eyes narrowed, she struck her to demand a response, and again when she changed her mind. "You do not deserve an answer, anyway. This is information gained from research that I conducted on my own. I would instruct you to do your own study, but someone of your unfortunate level of intellect could not possibly do what I do."

She scowled, disgusted with the woman in front of her.

"Leave this to me, and go play on your own level," she spat, accompanied by a jab with the end of the vorpal sword. "There are numerous other idiots running about on this island; you should have no trouble staying away."

As she stopped talking, there was something faintly visible on her head, barely foggy, hardly there, seeming to increase in visibility as her anger did. Her hands shook with fury, and it was almost solid - a crown of wispy silver, sitting atop her head as if it had always been there.

"So stay away. Stay away, or I will destroy you." Her voice trembled through her spiteful tone, and she dropped Svensyl to shove her, weapon abandoned in favor of her own hands. She shoved at her again, then grabbed fistfuls of her coat and pushed hard enough to bring both of them to the ground. The landing was sloppy and jarring, but she still fought to scramble on top of her.

The crown remained where it had always been, entirely unaffected by the fall.

Though she struggled to catch her breath, she leaned forward to whisper near her ear. Each breath was labored with urgency, warm puffs exhaled into unsubtly heavy words.

"I will find you, in a place where no one can see, and I will destroy you beyond recognition. Flesh, then muscle, then bone." A hungry excitement began to bleed into her words. She made no effort to hide how much she enjoyed the idea as she pressed her hand against her neck, against the base of her jaw, nails testing the resistance of her skin. "It will be excruciating. I know just where to begin, and where to end, to make it last. I will leave enough undamaged flesh for a single 'O', and they will burn your body, and no one will care."

It was dangerously tempting to do that here, visibility be damned. Something ached inside her, and it joined so easily with Svensyl's eager pleas. Sensibility was fighting a losing battle in her mind, and when she began to speak again, she sounded exactly as fractured and crazed as she was.

"No one. Especially not the ones who care about me. I need them, and you don't. You don't, or you will die. I promise." She stared, eyes wide, and stopped when her voice began to crack. Desperate fingers clutched her coat again, and she shook her by the shoulders. "I promise. I promise."

One unsteady hand reached for her weapon. She dragged it across the ground until its hilt met Maebe's body, then pulled it until it was lying across her. Her eyes still stared down at her, but they were unfocused now; they remained that way when she nudged the sword to hold the edge of the blade at her throat, even as she began to smile and urge Svensyl forward.

Because he loves me in a way no one else is capable of.

She believed that. Maebe believed that line with every fiber of her being, and she knew, as much as it scared her, that that was why she couldn't have just left Lucky alone in the first place.

Because he was different.

Mimsy came at her, wild and murderous, spitting out threats that should have had her swearing off Lucky forever. But Maebe seemed a little distracted, staring up at something just over her head. She pointed up at it, even as Mimsy slammed her down into the ground and reached for her weapon.

"You uh.. you've got a little something.. right.."

It seemed as though Maebe wasn't taking anything Mimsy said seriously, but that wasn't exactly the case. It worked as an effective defense mechanism, however, locked in place and holding all the way until the sword came crashing down on her shield - and then, on herself.

Maebe saw stars, and then she saw nothing.
