does the manga go on longer than the anime?

Much~ The anime finishes at around volume 3 of the manga. I believe the manga is... at volume 5 and continuing right now.

Not for the manga. It's still continuing. Yami no Matsuei is officially discontinued...
But if you mean if they cut the anime short, yes.

Like Yami no Matsuei (Descendants of Darkness) The anime form of Loveless is just an eye catcher to pull more people into the manga.

It sounds like they make every chapter of the book into an episode of a dvd.
