The Show Must Go On
- A long-time participant in gymnastics, though her interest in competitions had rapidly diminished over the years, Kailey still found she enjoyed showing off her athletic flexibility. While this was usually restricted to the MMA ring, and pole dancing fitness classes moment she realized that was a thing at sixteen (and got her foster mom to sign the release form), it wasn't long after beginning the classes that she heard some of the older women talking about their work at burlesque clubs. They would speak bluntly about the profession, and when the teen continued to show interest, the ladies were willing to bring out photos and--discrete--videos. The costumes, the energy, and the shows that utilized props especially intrigued her. She quickly began to frequent different sites to get a better feel for the styles different performers utilized, and upon hearing about amateur nights at one particular club, she threw her cards into the ring the night she turned legal. Though it took a bit of work, and a lot of pestering some of the women she knew from the fitness classes, she was able to land a semi-regular job as an amateur performer. Her performances are high energy, utilizing props--especially poles--to heavily display her flexibility as the flashy costumes come off. She's begun to take dance lessons with some of the other women to add a bit of finesse she knows her shows can still lack at times. Not that she's one to hide her rougher nature in her shows, but she finds great joy in figuring out new additions to her routines and excuses to spend perhaps more than she should on her costumes--or at least figure out new ways to thrift and adjust things to fit the flashy styles she can't quite bring herself to buy. Kailey's also begun even taking some voice lessons to potentially add another aspect to her performances, but as of yet it's not been remotely included.
Horror Fiend
- One of the first book series she ever read was Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. They freaked her out, sure…. but then she started peeking under her bed at night when the lights were off, trying to see if a monster was under there. Or she'd sneak along the floor of her room to a window when she thought she heard noises outside. These days, shows like The Walking Dead and The Haunted are a daily dose of gore and horror, or whatever creepy movie the Chiller channel has on. Of course all the horror stories still freak her out if she's watching too late at night, but nothing stops her from coming back for more. Glutton for punishment? Probably. Horror movies on TV--she's long past the point where she's rolling her eyes at most SciFi original flicks, yet still she keeps coming back--and watching playthroughs on YouTube as other gamers play intense video games unless she just caves and buys them herself, she'll get her fix any way she can. She devours books like World War Z and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. She'll always say she just loves the thrill and can never wait till the Halloween season when all the haunted houses and trails open for her to visit. Secretly? She really is a bit more interested in the plot of the stories, in the sources of the different hauntings and horrors, than the scares she gets from them. The fascination with horror has developed into an interest in the occult, even if a lot of her information just comes from media as opposed to in-depth research. She's on the fence if she wants to try an Ouija board, but damn if she's not tempted...
That Ole One-Two
- The girl's always had energy to spare, and when she was younger that energy came with a temper in spades. Though her gymnastics training was intense, her father still helped her sign up for peewee lessons in the ring. Kailey fell in love with kickboxing almost from the start, and when her interest in gymnastic competitions began to dwindle, her interest in competing in the ring began to rise. Kickboxing became a heavy part of her life rapidly, and even now Kailey participates in MMA matches when she is able. She keeps up with her training regiment religiously, with high hopes of competing in tournaments. Her flexibility and muscle memory from gymnastics has enabled her to mesh these acrobatic move into MMA rather easily, and she keeps herself in damn good shape with her regiment. There is a bit of a history for her using these lessons to give her a bit of an edge back in St. Mag's when ah.... disagreements might happen between girls, in and outside the school walls, but since graduating and trying to mesh into something of the working world, she's been more capable of keeping her temper under control and separate herself from those tendencies.
Virtues:
Live for the Night~
- One look at the girl, and someone would easily call her a very chipper sort. Rarely is she without a smirk on her face, always some mischievous or mocking glint in her eyes. She walks with the easy gate and hop of someone seemingly without a care in the world. She isn't the happiest being out there, but she knows how to put on a smile, knows how to laugh even if it can come out a bit hollow at times--or, y'know, a bit manic. Genuine smiles are rarer, but laughter comes easy to her no matter the situation. Her sense of humor is a constant one, laughing at rather inappropriate moments and when the rest of the crowd is getting a kick out of something. She might be the only one laughing, but she will laugh. The upbeat nature is all for her, finding comfort and ease in being as chipper as possible, regardless of if she's actually feeling the mood or not. By pure power of will, maybe pretending she's as happy as she acts will make some good come along her way. Or maybe she'll actually find something to laugh about. She's not terribly picky. Anyone in a somber mood around her will be met with jabs and mindless chit-chat, trying to see if she can rile them up into laughter or maybe a friendly verbal spar. While not a very hands-on girl, she does believe in at least attempting to spread the good vibes around. Not her problem if they don't catch, though. Other person's loss~
Frugal is the new Chic
- Don't go looking to her for extra cash. Or expect her to ask you for any, either. If there's a will, there's a way, and if it means she's got to use the bare minimum of a scrap of whatever to get by, then hey. So be it. Her clothing is as hand-me-down as they get, and she'll patch them up however possible to keep wearing them for probably longer than any'd recommend. Notebooks and other supplies are used to full capacity, her notes tiny and meticulous in occupying every ounce of their respective pages as possible. Knickknacks? Bones? Feathers? Scraps of leather or cloth? Ok so some of that is easier to come by than others unless she gets lucky in a thrift store or some Etsy sellers are getting rid of things in bulk--she's got mad love for quite a few sellers on that site in fact. But what she can get, is reused into her accessories and clothing most likely. Or bedding. Or random decorating. Or most often, her burlesque costumes. There's nothing that's not used with her, though it might take her a moment to figure out how to use them. Which means woe to whomever's dealing with her at the time. She's not about to bound off into a new topic or project till she finishes what she's trying to do with her first issue. She's a shopaholic's worst nightmare and best friend combined, combing stores for only the best deals to get the best sale for her buck. Not that she'll buy much though, only as much as she actually needs for the moment, or might need in a moment or two after. Planning ahead somewhat comes into play, but the grand summary of her frugal lifestyle is Kailey's basic sense to adapt. If she can't make one set of supplies work, the gears will turn till she's got another way to apply the goods, or try and figure out the minimal amount of new additions she might need to make her current set work. Bare minimum is key to her. No such thing as extras when you've got a place for everything... Though she does have to keep a rather organized space to make sure there's no possible extras.
Give till it Hurts
- She's a reluctant helper. Coming around Kailey with a problem of any variety--or even so much as hinting to have an issue--will kick-start this near ingrained sense to assist. Much to her ever annoyance. The girl will groan, she'll huff, she'll whine... but she will help, despite herself. Always her aid comes with the belief nothing will come of it to assist her in turn. No favors, no payback, nothing. It is purely done out of the need to give advice, offer directions, lend a helping hand. Regardless of if someone actually asks her or not. Open your mouth around her at your own risk. Her opinion and actions will follow through on this single requirement of hers without any thought or consideration to the person with the actual problem. Not to say she has any ill intent, though. She does like helping people, and a small part of her would like to think it'll always change things for the better.... but hard to trust that. Should she speak or act out of turn and the recipient of her unwanted assistance, she'll pretty quickly clam up and put on a laughing facade to the whole ordeal, but it won't keep her mouth or hands in check the next time the same person opens their mouth around her with a problem.
Flaws:
Cynic to the Core
- Just because she's laughing about something, rarely does it mean she's doing it to laugh with someone. Not with this girl. Kailey herself has a very low view of the world around her, always waiting for jaws to snap and claws to lash. In her mind, laughter and smirks are a barrier between her and the rest, keeping the far less trustworthy world at arm's length. Her faith is kept only in her own abilities and that's about it. Even when it seems like things are going her way, and the people around her might be trustworthy... she's holding back her cards, waiting for the other shoe to drop. Long-time exposure to those that rattle this sense for her are taken in reluctant stride. Even after knowing someone else for years, knowing they keep their promises, their appointments, always there as a shoulder, a barrier is still there on some degree. She never fully relaxes around someone else, always expecting she'll still need to be on her own when things crash at last. The world is only as good as she makes it herself. Be that through playing an ever cheerful punk or helping others with whatever she can, it's her own assist to the world. Unfortunately, she just doesn't expect anything to fully rid the world of its fangs and claws.
Not a Babysitter, hun
- "Sugar coating" is not a phrase in her vocabulary. Unless she's laughing at you for expecting it out of her. Any words out of her mouth, though laced with laughter, will be as blunt as stone. Facts as she knows them, white lies, and whatever else she needs to get a message across, are all delivered with the same "stating the obvious" tones. Step-by-step instructions? If someone wants a babysitter, she'll point them to the nearest daycare. Her advice and assistance is given, wanted or not, but it is always done at face-value. In her book, you've got to be able to help yourself first and foremost. Additional help'll come after. Maybe. Hand-holding is near a capital crime in her book. She asks for none, and gives none in return. The moment she feels someone is whining, dragging their feet, or any other showing any other annoying behavior, she'll laugh herself right on out of the situation. Even if it means leaving the person she was trying to help in a rather uncomfortable situation. Her need to help does, in this sense, only go so far. She'll have the need to help them out of the original circumstance that might have gotten the ball rolling, but if she begins to believe they aren't capable of getting themselves out through the "path" her advice or assistance would offer--in as far as she believes, anyways, which is a far, far cry from absolute--then she'll call the situation as she sees it. Not her fault they're not strong enough, smart enough, or quick enough to make it out. She tried~ To say this could land her in a great deal of blame and heat is an understatement, and any resulting backfire to her own antics will become only more fuel to her cynic fire. Her? At fault? Nah never. It's the other person's fault they couldn't make it through.
Reckless Endangerment
- Following someone's advice to get out of some problem might be a bit difficult, and the adviser might come off as a bit hypocritical, when said adviser is all too willing to jump barriers and hop fences without much regard for her own safety. "No don't do that" is just another way of saying, "But you can't," in her ears. There's a reason she's got her scars. Though her wings are just tattoos, seems inevitable she'll aim for only the direct routes in situations. Even if it means trying to barge her way through every obstacle in her path. Be it dealing with people or the environment around her, blunt and direct are the only methods she really seems to deal in. Oh she'll be laughing and mocking without fail, but her overarching methods rarely change. She'll collect scars like trophies, more evidence that she can do it, or at least survive it. Those who don't respond well to her antics are left with a laugh and continued belief that it's yet another example of why she can't trust the rest of the world. Very much a self-fulfilling prophecy more often than not as she grows older. She's about as used to patching up her clothing as she is to patching up herself. Injuries are a common place thing for her, and though she's no fan of pain and takes note of how to try to not end up with massive scars or broken bones again... Those lessons only seem to come into play when she's trying to adapt to a less than ideal situation she'd already barreled into. As opposed to trying to find an alternative route around the obstacle. That option only seems viable to her only after she's tested every other way she can think of to get through with the direct path.
