Love-hate relationship. That was the best possible way to describe it. Nothing else fit remotely, too lackluster or left-field. By one claw, it was a haven. Structure and order, wonder and inspiration. Hours could be spent here. Weeks. Years, potentially. If some of the rumored corridors could be accessed...

By the other claw though. It was a rather massive space. Very massive. Traveling down shelves, ignoring where feet lead... not the smartest idea. It was just too easy. Eyes to spines, to tomes--or to pages and text, if one was pulled down--and wandering feet were mixes meant for disaster.

Which was why Agsilved stood at the crossroads of yet more shelves, clutching one older autobiography--the author had kept detailed accounts and depictions of their travels to various regions of the world. She'd already devoured two chapters by the time she'd realized she'd never stopped walking. Wary eyes drifted from shelf to shelf, trying to locate something to better determine her location. Somewhere past atlases, past world history and human tales.

Crossing the aisle into the next row of shelves, she peered up at some of the titles. And promptly scowled. Wish Upon a Pumpkin and Prayers to the Pumpkin Patch and similar titles stared back at her, making the dragoness cringe. Hatchlings, she liked when they were someone else's. Her own?

The thought was a nauseating one.

Intent to leave the books behind as quickly as she'd come, Agsilved walked on at a brisk pace. The end of the shelves on either side of her came into gradual view. Off to the right though, a strange light peeked around the shelves. The closer she got, the more she could make out light through the cracks between books. The library held a collection of interesting pieces--which one was this?

An ink dragon's mind is a vastly creative creature. The list she had formulating for what could be between the next shelves was positively endless. It was only more fuel to her fire as she stepped closer. Rounding the shelves she stalked between, book held close to her stomach, her eyes were wide and expectant.

Unfortunately. She hadn't been imagining a glowing pumpkin perched on a display case. Stunned, horrified, she just stared. Oh by Jack.... was it.... real?

Hamika was neither a book person nor a hater of reading. Too many times had she found herself slobbering over her own knee joint, getting the gross slime all over the book and her knee, instead of actually read. She preferred reading on computers where her knees were no where in her sights, or listening to audio tapes of books instead.

Sometimes having an unsatitable need to eat one's (or everyone's) knees was rather inconvient.

But, the little paper ghoul zombie did frequent the library for numerous assignments and the occasional cuddle with the spiders in the corridors. You really couldn't call them cuddles, when they squeezed a little too tight and tried wrapping you up in their webs for later - especially if you'd simply taken a nap over a very dry book about the theory behind whether selkie or ooze puss was the best moisturizer for zombie flesh. This, of course had never actually happened to Hamika herself, but she didn't have a short story written up about it.

She still found webbing in her hat sometimes.

Cough.

The tiny zombie ghoul rounded the corner with a book almost the size of her torso and almost ran smack into the ink dragon. The book, for note, was one about mummification techniques of ancient zombies, not that that matters much here.

Was that. A pumpkin?

She'd only read about the objects, having been raised as a zombie and not born as most other citizens. She glanced up at the ink dragon then back at the pumpkin.

"Rotten gravestones! Who's the lucky boil! Or-- or ghoul if that's what you're into!" She sounded just a hair too giddy.

Oh there was a story here... a juuuuicy story.

Gradual, hesitant steps brought the dragon closer to the pumpkin. It wasn't as if she'd really... seen one up close before. Was it truly real? Who.... why would someone leave it here? It was near the section full of books on pumpkins... just a display? A teaching tool? Agsil really hoped that was the case. It was the calmest option. It was the only one that made her not feel crazy. Or creeped out.

But.... how was she supposed to know? Eyeing it, she debated if touching it would be alright. Would she feel warmth? A pulse? Maybe she should go and check those books near her, see if they said anything.... Chapter 11: What to do if you find an abandoned pumpkin you're not sure if it's even a pumpkin or not. Likely not. But she could dream.

Trapped in her thoughts, there wasn't an ounce spared for the rest of the world around her. She didn't hear footsteps. Didn't catch the smell. All she knew was one moment she was staring rather horrified at a glowing pumpkin, the next a young voice was sounding out behind her. The dragon whirled around, snarling at the sudden intrusion to her space. Violet eyes narrowed towards the tiny ghoul, the book in her claws clutched tighter as she took in the sight. Flesh and muscle were stripped from sections of bone. Pale flesh. The dragon's nose crinkled as she took a curious sniff. An... undead? A student. Clinging to a book nearly too large for her. Slowly, Agsil pulled back from her hostile stance, folding her wings at her back. Her tail snapped through the air behind her though.

She'd been about to apologize. Really. She'd overreacted.

Till the ghoul opened her mouth. And the apology went right out the window. Or blew somewhere under a shelf. Ink pooled in her cheeks, darkened her skin throughout her face, her neck--even her shoulders seemed to be tinted by the substance. Lucky... boil? Lucky... ghoul? For a split second. The dragon was horribly. Horribly. Painfully tempted to rip her pin off and start roaring. "Neither," she hissed hotly, voice low to try and keep in line with the rules of the library. There was a reason she still hadn't taken to the wing. "I have a taste for neither in this context because the pumpkin is not mine." She snarled anew. "I just found it. Someone else left it!"

Easy mix-up?

Not in her mind.

It wasn't... hers? How could it not be hers? That was like saying Hami's knees weren't hers, and they were most definately hers. The little ghoul frowned at the inky dragon. It's wasn't hers, the pumpkin. Hamika was a zombie. Making pumpkins was... out of her abilities.

"Well it isn't mine! I'm a zombie. I can't make pumpkins. I do this though!" The little ghoul pulled off her leg at the knee and wiggled it around, in a weird sort of way that almost showed that the limb would still move if she wanted it to.

"It has to be yours then! You don't just find pumpkins lying about!" She was entirely too excited about this, clearly.

Clearly something had it out for her that day. Agsilved had to bite her tongue to resist the urge to groan. First finding the pumpkin. Now this ghoul refusing to accept it wasn't hers. It wasn't! Agsil had no mate. Not even a partner of... well. Any capacity. She'd rather it remained that way, thank you.

When the young ghoul spoke up, the dragon was returning her frown. Couldn't... make..? Her brow furrowed. Was that possible? Did she have some FEAR disease that prevented..? But she'd said she was a zombie first. Why-- ....Agsil suddenly felt a little payback was in order, cringing visibly at seeing the other pull her own limb off. Mentally telling her stomach to quiet and stay strong, she gave a shrug. "How do you know it's not yours? Zombies are just as capable of creating pumpkins as dragons. It says so right in these books," she added, lifting an arm to gesture to the shelves beside them.

"Maybe you helped make a pumpkin and simply didn't know it. Lose any pieces lately~?" Not that that had anything to do with how they were made, but if the ghoul thought she couldn't make a pumpkin... well then. She was going to have fun with this one.

Hamika turned an odd shade of green, made all the more prominant by the fact the rest of her skin grew more grey as her cheeks went greener. The ghoul fidgeted under the ink dragon's stare. Her eyes widened and she hasted to put her leg back on. She spun a few times checking for missing pieces.

"That's-- I don't even talk to anyone really! You obviously get more attention than me!" She huffed and placed her hands on her hips. She glared at the dragon.

"How do you know you haven't lost some of that black inky stuff to the pumpkin instead!?"

Her reaction was priceless. Completely worth the zombie's previous blunder with thinking the pumpkin belonged to Agsil herself. A tiny, tiny part of her conscious scolded her, saying it was cruel to make the tiny ghoul think such a thing. The rest of her conscious told the tiny part to shut up and be quiet. The ghoul started this whole mess.

The idea that she got more attention than the other ghoul made her roll her eyes. "By Jack's breath, you have no proof of that." She only hung out with a few creeple, if even that. Tavi, sometimes Spinar. That was the grand extent of her social circle. Hearing the returned challenge, Agsil smirked anew. That was an easy one.

"Watch." With a dramatic flourish of one hand, she flicked ink from her claws onto the surface of the pumpkin. Looking back to the zombie to make sure she was watching, Agsil set her hand almost on the pumpkin. The ink slowly dribbled back towards her, where she was able to suck the substance back up into her claws. "See? None of my ink is inside it, or I would have been able to call it out."

Lies. All lies. Once the ghoul realized all this, she'd get yelled at. But for the moment, Agsil was enjoying herself. Being so close to the glowing pumpkin, the dragon looked again to it. It... wasn't warm. Her brow furrowed. Was that... normal?

"How do you know your ink is supposed to come out, hmm!" demanded Hamika, not so decreetly pulling out a journal and scribling furiously on the paper.

Can throw ink at things. Thinks she can pull ink out of things.
Zombies can make pumpkins!? Always check for missing pieces now!
Inky dragon is clearly easily agitated.
Ink dragons.
Research ink dragons.
Research better masking perfumes.

The zombie ghoul walked up to the pumpkin and poked it with her fingers. It seemed a bit... hollow, to be honest. She looked at the dragon. "Well if you know so much 'bout pumpkins, why is it hollow?" Clearly this woman knew much about the ways of pumpkins. Clearly this meant she had made several before. Why she would deny this one's existance now was quite literally over Hamika's head.

Inky dragon must have lots of inky.... baby dragons...(?)
Knows lots about pumpkins.
Must have baby dragons.
