Ootori_K There really wasn't much that escaped the Shadow King, and that flush was unmistakeable. He filed it away, though he didn't believe that she had that much to be embarrassed about. He continued writing quietly, and taking the time to observe the general area, and occasionally the young lady. Perhaps it was a tactic to see how she intended to handle it, and if she'd decide to take matters into her own hands Jasmine stared down at her textbook, trying to continue her reading but her mind just would not absorb the words. Her mind was racing with other thoughts. She wondered what he was doing, and if he had noticed her. If he had... would he think she was ignoring him? In which case, this would be an awkward silence, would it not? She bit her lip and briefly sweated over this possibility.
Eventually, curiosity got the better of her, and she wracked her brain for some subtle way to observe the boy. Jasmine slowly brought the textbook very close to her face, before taking a little peek over the top of the covers. Only her shining blue eyes were showing as she peered over at Kyouya. Yes. Brilliant. Very subtle.

Jasmine startled, caught off guard. "Em- no- just- just your glasses." She mentally face-palmed. What an awkward way to state the obvious.
Wait. Actually... Jasmine put her textbook on the ground, mentally noting the page she was on before closing it to turn to face him. "Why do you wear glasses, senpai? Most people I know switched to contacts once they reached high school."

It didn't mean he didn't wear them; their cosplays occasionally demanded it, so he'd put up with them for few hours necessary.

I've never seen you without your glasses." She would have remembered. (( Wait... Gods/Goddesses cosplay? If so, dammit. ))
So there was no deeper meaning behind it? Although if there was, there was no way he would ever vocalize it. She let herself get carried away a little, fantasizing that maybe they helped him keep an objective view of the world, or maybe made him feel safer. A screen between himself and his surroundings, if you will.
At that moment, a small cherry blossom flower floated down from the trees, gently landing on the Ootori boy's head and breaking her out of her reverie. "Ah, Kyouya-senpai-- there's something on your head." Jasmine stood up and walked over to crouch in front of the boy, leaning in closer to pluck the blossom from his hair.

(( No, not for that one, as it didn't seem necessary. I have done it for other ones, always under protest. )) Even if her fantasies were correct, it was unlikely Kyouya would ever voice such reasons. If she were particularly astute, she might have wondered why he hadn't bothered to have the lasik surgery done, given his family's position and connections. He tilted his head back to watch her as she went after the wayward petal, stiffening slightly even before her fingers touched his hair. "I could have gotten that," he pointed out lightly enough, though there was a soft, chilly undercurrent beneath the words.

The barely perceptible cold undertone of his words had not been missed by Jasmine, nor was the slight stiffening of his shoulders. At this distance, it was a lot easier to catch his reactions and minute changes in expression and posture.
She recalled a similar reaction when she had brushed snow from his head, back on the ski slopes during the onsen trip. Did he... dislike being touched? He had seemed fine when they had danced together, near the beginning of their acquaintance. Unwarranted touch, then?
That burning curiosity to see different sides of the inscrutable boy arose once more, releasing her social inhibitions. She felt more daring.
"...But then I wouldn't have been able to..." Jasmine's voice dropped to a whisper as she leaned in even closer, looking right into those dark, dark eyes as she placed the little cherry blossom behind his ear. She did so slowly, almost tenderly as her fingers sensually brushed against the top of his ear.
Some rational part of her brain pulled her back to reality as her heart started to race at their close proximity. "... do this!" She leaned back a little, breathing out a breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding. She tilted her head and gave him a detached, playful smile, even though her heart was pounding. "Th-there. Beautiful."

He turned just slightly toward her as her fingers brushed across his ear, and whatever thoughts might have been in his eyes were entirely hidden behind the glint of those earlier-discussed glasses. "Is that so?" he inquired dryly, allowing her one long moment to take in her work before reaching for the flower and removing it, apparently to inspect it. He studied it briefly, noting its soft fadedness -- the early blooms often fell the fastest, it seemed to him -- and perhaps just a sliver of a smile played in the corners of his mouth. He knew exactly what his best friend would say in a moment like this. But Kyouya Ootori was not Tamaki Suou, and the Prince's naturally romantic words were not ones that belonged to the cool-type host. He glanced back up at her, coolly amused -- and clearly noted the release of that pent-up breath. "I'm curious. What do you find beautiful?" A soft emphasis on the "do" was an outlet, if she decided to take it -- a question that could easily shift into generics, rather than specifics of the current moment.

Jasmine had felt the freeze-- but didn't really know what to make of it, still being a little flustered. The side of her lip twitched slightly as she pouted internally. All that effort on her part, and no major reaction. Then again, she had pulled back rather early. She wasn't really the forward type-- maybe she should observe the host king and learn a thing or two. She was not going to give up. She made a mental note.
Jasmine's legs were starting to cramp from crouching, and she proceeded to sit down in front of the boy, placing her legs on one side underneath her in the ladylike manner she had been taught.
This segue was unexpected. She struggled to come up with an immediate answer. "Well... the cherry blossom trees, for starters?" But the emphasis on "do" hinted that he expected a little more. "Just... the world. How everything just works. Um, life...?" She gazed up at the trees and fiddled with some grass as her voice trailed off. Was that too general?

No major reaction was par for the course, even when presented with something far more forward (consider Lucas and the mistletoe). Or perhaps what she'd sensed was a major reaction, when coming from him. Difficult to say. He quirked an eyebrow at her answer, considering it thoughtfully. The flower was still held captive in those long fingers. "The world in general?" he repeated, to confirm. "Quite poetic, and yet also rather analytical, ne? Are you a scientist, then, or a poet, Miss Jasmine?" If he were truly a mind reader, he'd have come firmly down on the scientist side, given that he was the subject of her little experiment. But he was not. He did remember that her stated classes involved international business -- which certainly didn't conform to either of those possibilities. Perhaps the alternate path she'd briefly mentioned tracked down one of those lines, though.

Was this perhaps his way of prompting her to think about her lack of direction in life? She didn't remember directly revealing this to the boy, but she wasn't surprised that he had deduced at least a part of her troubles through her words and expressions.
A slight breeze blew through the grounds, gently ruffling her hair. It pulled at the cherry blossom in Kyouya's hands, briefly struggling to tug it free. Her gaze left the trees and settled back on his face. "I'm just a high school student," she uttered simply. It was accompanied by a smile, but an empty one.

But perhaps that empty smile was reflected in her flat tone, as well, because although he didn't look up directly at her, there was a subtle shift in the set of his jaw. "And in three years, will you be just a college student?" he inquired coolly.

Unless I get married off before then, she added in her head. Jasmine briefly wondered if her father would show some sort of interest in that part of her life, or just let her do as she liked like usual.

That hint of irony earned her a flick of a sideways glance, and a note of dry amusement in Kyouya's voice. "Absolutely riveting. I take it you find this to be the be-all and end-all of your life, a corporate employee?" There was, perhaps, a complex layer of subtlety in that particular question -- but without the context, it would not be the easiest to decipher. "I suppose it's good to be realistic, ne?" There was an edge of soft irony of his own, there.

There was an edge of soft irony of his own, there. "If I weren't realistic now... I'd be forced to be realistic later." Taking big risks, chasing dreams... those were nice ideas, but they belonged in the movies.
She fell silent. Only the soft rustling of the trees filled the spaces of their paused conversation as she turned towards her thoughts. She just... couldn't bring herself to face the future she was expecting. But she wasn't willing to do anything drastic to change it, either. It was a contradicting existence, and she knew it. It was easier to simply not think about the future.
Jasmine's thoughts were interrupted as her legs started to ache in protest at her current sitting position. She longed to sit cross-legged, but the fabric of her skirt would stretch awkwardly. She fidgeted for a short moment before breaking the silence with a quiet request. "...Senpai, mind sharing your tree?"
