User Image Tinker Toy turned another page of the bridal magazine, wrinkling his nose at the different shades of whites that were presented to him. He could tell some apart, but others he was quiet sure people were just making it up that they were different. They were pretty and cute and the little pearls and designs were to be adore, but.....white. It was the absent and representation of all colors at the same time, depending to what you were talking about.

He huffed a little and puffed and poked her sister's shoulder. "Do all brides were white? Why can't this one wear blue or green or maybe somethin' like a light yellowish brown, making the dress seem old and vintage and pretty."

Perhaps he should be a bit more..manly and not care, but with his family he tended to have strange tastes and liked to just play along, so long as they were playing. Besides, being pamper by his sisters like having his mane brushed into a complicated little do's or his hooves painted was rather relaxing.

"Very light greys? Don't be silly!" Blush floated a tiny sweeping brush over to them and began to brush any settled dust off of the top of the top hat. "None of those colors are greys. They're bright whites, or else they have a touch of pale pink, cream, or gold added to them. GREYS, as IF."

She swept the top clean, then took a step back to admire her brother. "You would look nice in cuffs, I think, even if you are jibber-jabbing. Do I have any cuffs?"

Blush turned, looking in the costume box with a thoughtful expression on her face, her mouth screwed to one side. "Hmmm..."

He turned to look at himself in the mirror and grinned at the hat settled on his head. Yes, perhaps top hats should be become another thing of his. He'll think on it, turning his eyes on his sisters, it still seemed...odd to him that brides only wore white. "Well, couldn't the bridemaids wear white or black and let the poor woman have more options then a rainbow of very light greys?"

Tink gave a little noise as he sat down, still admiring himself in the mirror for a bit longer. "Maybe I am a very kooky, but I always thought of a wedding, a union of two lovers, to be needing to be full of color and expression of one's self." Or maybe he been around his uncle too much.

He turned to watched her. "I don't know if we have cuffs, we have handcuffs...."

Oopos! It was about brides couldn't be in color cause then then what would the bridemaids wear, and putitng a grey top hat on Tink

"HOOFcuffs? Oh no no no no no, that's an awful -- why do we have hoofcuffs?" Blush stopped in the middle of her sentence, blinking rapidly. "Is it for a magic show or something?"

Clearing her throat, she put the issue aside. What Tink was saying DID make a lot of sense to her, if she really considered it... a union of two lovers, needing expression of oneself. Not the wedding coordinator's vision, the couple's vision. If a bride wanted a colored dress and to see her bridesmaids all in white, what did it matter?

She bit her bottom lip, thinking. "Well... I..."

Her confidence faltered. Why hadn't SHE thought of that? She was the one with the cutie mark! SHE was the one who was supposed to already have found her talent!

"No, I think we have hoofcuffs from when we played cops and robbers that one time. I think there is a small plastic gun somewhere....and mommy has the cop cap in her shop."

Tink seemed unaware of the small panic he had lit in his sister as he pulled onto a cape and smirked at his reflection. "Just need a mask and a rose, and I'll be a lady killer." He settled back down and looked at his sister. "Anyways, while tradition is all nice and everything, they are a bit too ingrain and been insti...insti..." He pause. "Ins-ti-tu-tio...na..lized." He mumbled under his breath then repeated the word. "The whole white bride is old fashion and been shown so many times that brides are just plain brainwashed into believing that a white dress is their only choice, regardless of shade. She doesn't have the the diamond in the rough, she can be the bold saphire, or the delicate ruby, or an opal of fire breath that overtakes. Not everyone looks good in white, and doesn't the bride have to be that sparkling jewel of the ball? That one that draws all the attention? "

Tinker's explanation of the hoofcuffs sailed right through Blush's ears. She was instead blinking back big, fat tears, the existence of which infuriated her. Why on EARTH was she getting so upset for no reason? Just because her BROTHER was talking about white wedding dresses like they weren't the end-all, be-all of weddings? She was being unforgivably ridiculous, and she knew it.

"Oh -- but you aren't taking into account -- I think -- well -- it's that --- you know, most people and phonies LIKE the white dress!" Blush insisted. She knew it was not her finest argument. She knew that she could have wound herself down, said that while yes, many phonies looked lovely in various shades, mares still tended to favor a white gown (or mostly white) for the wedding days and to keep the other colors for alternate occasions. And that tradition and brainwashing were distinctly NOT the same things. And that if a mare truly, truly didn't like white, there were lots of lovely options for her.

The well-reasoned argument floated somewhere in her brain. But Blush could only manage to feel upset with herself. What if she'd had this kind of meltdown in front of one of her first clients!?

She snuffled. "Brides are diamonds. They're supposed to sparkle the BRIGHTEST, and everyone knows a bride when they see one because of the stupid WHITE dress!" And she stomped one ladylike hoof in front of her.

Tink blinked a few times as his sister stuttered her way through a lame comeback. The colt open and then closed his mouth with an audiable click as she stomped her hooves. He hadn't meant to upset her, just playful banter, little needling, but not upset her. Always for the unconventional, he sometimes had a hard time telling when he was going too far.

"Blush, I am not saying tradition is bad, I am just saying that sometimes people's choices are made for them because they never bene given another option. They don't know they have the choice. Everyone always says the bride must dress in white, and I am saying because of it, any bride who wished to be dressed in something else feels pressure to be in white." He tried to keep level-headed, but felt his own body vibrating, not with anger, but anxiety to get away from his upset sister, least he made worse, which he was sure he just did.

The angry flush faded from Blush's cheeks as Tink continued to speak. It wouldn't do to get angry with him just for voicing a very-logical opinion, even if she was upset she'd never considered it before. She was just being silly.

"No, you're right," Blush said composedly. "I'm -- I'm sorry, Tink. I shouldn't have gotten so angry. It's just --" She paused, gathering herself. "I know one day I might have a bride or groom say this kind of stuff to me and it bugged me I never really thought about it! I guess, since I have my cutie mark, I just thought... I don't know, I just thought I should already know this stuff."

Tink looked at her cutie mark as if he had just seen it, althought it had been there for a long time. He smiled at her. "Having a cutie mark doesn't mean you know everything. Mama is always figuring new things about her shop, new items or services she can bring on, or make, or offer." He gave a squeak. "Cutie marks are knowing your purpose, your drive, and passion, and if you knew how deal with everything in your field, then it would no longer be a fun and happy thing for you to do, you would be bored!"

Blush smiled. Being honest with her brother had just made him use his wonderful sweet attitude, his perception, his understanding to her benefit rather than making her feel small. She felt grateful to have his insight. She nodded, her usual expression of elegance and cheerfulness returning to her face.

"You're absolutely right, Tink," she said. She leaned forward and pressed a little kiss to her brother's cheek. "You know, you're really smart. I don't know why you don't have your own cutie mark yet. You really deserve it, you know that? I hope you do."

"It's all about keeping an open mind." A deep blush appeared around his cheeks at the little kiss, as well the compliment thrown at him. "It will come when it wants to." He share a small grin. "For now, I am happy to help you find new and clever ways to amaze your future clientele, sis."

Nudging Tink with a laugh, Blush shook her head. She couldn't believe how lucky she was in her family -- wonderful mothers, a glamorous and aesthete sister, a creative and fantastic brother. She wouldn't trade them for anything. And she felt like with their help, she couldn't help but succeed.

"You're the best, Tink. When you figure out what you want to do, you know I'll be there for you, too." She gave him another little smooch. "One hundred percent."
