 Xena was out and about practicing with a sword. If she was gonna live up to her mother's expectations she wanted to be able to defend others. She wasn't as passive as her sister Arduinna and her mother and tended to be a bit headstrong at first sight. She had gotten to know who most of her friends and enemies were as well so she would have no problem if battles arose.

 Zander's ears detected the whoosh of air as he walked along. It was fairly close. Curiosity got the better of him and he had to go see what was going on. He happened upon a female with a sword. He stood and watched for a second before engaging. "Pretty good. What are you going to do with it though?"

Xena for a second turned around with the sword pointed towards Zander. She stopped herself for a second before putting it away realizing she was being a bit too brash, something her mother would constantly scold her for. "I was going to go out on a quest." She paused for a moment wondering who this pony was. "I'm Xena, daughter of Epona, and you are? It's not that I don't trust you I always tend to greet others this way just until I can get to know who they are. The last thing I need is a pony that wants to ruin the success of a quest or worse kill me."
(Sorry she's kind of headstrong a bit too. I forgot to mention that.)

Zander shrugged, unfazed by her thus far. "Zander," He stuck out o hoof. "Son of Harmony and Whizzer. Number two in a set of six brothers. You did say quest, right? That sounds like fun. What will you be questing for?"

Xena was thinking for a moment. She could trust him and he definitely didn't seem like an enemy or a threat. "Oh well I was curious about the Forbidden forest. They say it's a sacred place that most don't venture into." She was wondering what this one was getting at. "They say the trees block out the sunlight so the plants there have a luminescent quality about them." She paused for a second. "Although I have heard there are also monsters in there so if it scares you I would not recommend tagging along, but if you want to come it's fine by me."

"Monsters?" He grinned, "Count me in. I haven't been on a good adventure in ages." Zander flexed his wings. "So it'll be dark, scary, and we won't know what's coming at us. I am stoked."

Xena was a bit surprised that this pony was so willing to go on an adventure with him. Most of the time others would wander off and think she was insane. "They say if you make it through you are gifted with valuable treasure. So it is worth it so long as we make it through." She picked up a couple things. "Although I'd think we best prepare for our journey before we dart headfirst. I used to be more dart in, but thanks to my mother she told me that strategy has a purpose. One wrong move and it could prove fatal."

"You've got a point. As much as I'd like to go, I'd like to make it out alive too. One good adventure should lead to another." Zander smiled at her, "How heavy do you think we'll need to pack?"

Xena stood there for a while thinking it out with a hoof to her chin. "I'd say enough of the basics to help us get through it." She looked around. "For starters some weapons would be good. I got this sword, but some rope, some sort of bow or crossbow would be nice. Um, maybe some sort of food to replenish our energy or drink for that matter. Maybe packing light but necessary is the best way to go. That way if we end up being chased we won't be slowed down by heavy objects."
She paused for a moment before thinking what else she could take. "Well actually how about we meet back here in about a couple minutes unless you want to come with me to my home and borrow some of our equipment for this adventure. I mostly collect them as I find them and I ask other ponies for help so I do have quite a collection."

Zander thought about it for a second. "I've got a bow. This one wood elf guy made it for me. Said it'd come in handy one of these days. So I think I'll meet you back here in a few minutes."
With that, Zander jumped into the air and used his powerful wings to propel him back to his home for packing.

Xena nodded her head. "That sounds useful and alright. I'll see you back in a bit." She then headed home to pack some more small trinkets. She looked all over her house area. Her mother had left a couple potions around the area. "Mind if I take some mom, " she called out.
Epona shook her head. "You're still going out on random adventures huh? Well if you are then definitely take them, but you really need to quit being so reckless sometimes."
Xena pouted. "Oh come off it mom! I'm not reckless. I just know what I want!"
Epona went over and kissed her forehead. "Well just make sure you come back safe and sound. I would hate to see Kiwi have a fainting spell and panic attack because you had a series of unfortunate events."
Xena sighed. "Don't worry mom. I'll be fine." She looked off for a bit. "But thanks anyways." She then headed out after packing up the potions, some small tools, and a trusty shield. It took her a while to get back, but she made it back to the spot they had designated. Now all she had to do was wait for Zander.

Zander gathered his bow and arrows, a small first aid kit, and a fairy in a bottle that some warrior dude had given him. He packed everythign in a small knapsack and threw it across his back and took off back toward where he left Xena.
"Made it."

Xena smiled excited for the journey to come. "Alright then. Let's head off." She opened up her map to see where they were and to measure it out to where the area was. "So we're here and we have quite a ways till we hit the forbidden forest." She looked up from the map. "I guess we could have some small chat meanwhile that way we can get to know each other better." Xena was normally fairly awkward with conversation unless it involved adventuring. "So, do you have any brothers or sisters?"

Zander grinned, "Five brothers. My mom's a bit of a free spirit and my dad's the same way. So we didn't have a traditional familly. It was pretty great." He shrugged, "What about your family?"

Xena chuckled a bit. "Sounds like an interesting family. Ours is known to be a mix between a heroic adventuring type to a shy backwards relaxed fruit growing family. I have two sisters and three brothers. I don't get to see too many of my siblings besides my brother Kiwi and my older sister Arduinna. Most of them seem to be laid back. They think I'm a bit too bold though." She flicked her tail back and forth a bit disappointed in the thought.
"Families are good to have though even if they do ride your nerves." She then looked around the area. "Which valley do you live in?" She was trying to keep the conversation going so it wouldn't feel too awkward. "Any favorite color you have for that matter? Favorite place for that matter as well?" She was being a chatterbox now since she finally had someone she could talk to and open up to.
