CHARACTERS Name: NinFeng Age: 22 Sexual Orientation: Closeted Lesbian Likes: A full stomach, a nice bath, a warm bed and home basically all the things she doesn’t have or can’t get easily. The more tangible of her likes include a hot cup of coffee, smithing her occupation and she enjoys singing and playing piano/harpsichord even if she doesn’t admit it there is just this strange calming effect that it gives her. And she’s a Dog person Dislikes: Hates the cold and the heat, hates being hungry, hates sleeping on a hard floor separated by nothing but rags, hates clinging to her dog because he’s the only source of warmth in the long nights, she hates rich snobs and also hate singing in front of a crowd even if she does enjoy singing in itself. She also isn’t a huge fan of law enforcement, but then again there isn’t anyone in the lower quarter who really likes the guards, but hers is a bit more pointed. Backstory: NinFeng is like everyone else who lives in the Lower Quarter, she’s a particularly jaded individual with a bad attitude and a tendency towards violence hell she fits right in with all the drunks and belligerent towns folk. She can knock back drinks with the best of them and when it comes to a fight, she can knock as much slob as any brute around town, it how she was raised, bastardized by her snobbish father who bedded his maid and didn’t want his prissy wife to find out, she was orphaned in the slums while her dad went back to the upper quarter to live out his fancy life. That’s all she knows about her birth, and she doesn’t think about it much. When she was a kid, she was very sickly, which is common for the area, poor medicine and overall lack of experience doctors. She suffered from bronchitis which eventually turned into full blown pneumonia which she was predicted to die from, however before it could get worse she was whisked into the upper quarter and treated in their more advanced facilities, it can only be assumed that word of her possible death had reached her father, and he took action that still didn’t make him a saint in her eyes, nor did the fact that after they had cleared most of the fluid from her lungs the doctors sent her pack back to the slums without seeing through that she was actually cured. She has had a terminal cough ever sense. Extra: Nin has a very weak immune system due to her mishandled pneumonia as a child and therefore can become very sick very easily, she has a real bad cough that is slightly painful and always seems to pop up at the worst times.
She is practically homeless, even though she finds shelter in a burned down inn that has been neglected to be repaired, recently a new inn has been constructed in its place so it may never get fixed.
Nin has two jobs, one as a Black Smith under the apprenticeship of Hank the head Smith of the lower quarters, he pays her well and often feeds her, and on some particularly cold nights even lets her sleep in front of his fireplace. Her second job is more or less something she does from time to time when she is in a bind for cash, she will play the piano at a local bar for the performers, and if she is in a real tight spot, she’ll sing. But getting her to sing is like pulling teeth.
She also has a dog, a shaggy mutt that is half wolf by the name of LaiFeng Or just Lai as she likes to call him. Lai was just a dog that was known to walk the streets of the lower district, hungry and miserable like any other fool, but he took a liking to Nin and she gave him a name, naming him partially after herself inviting him away from his loneliness and making him a part of her family, they look out for each other, Lai is the closest friend that Nin has. Name: Vye Melfaris Age: 22 Sexual Orientation: Lesbian Likes: Vye is rather interested in the arts from music to dance and drawing. She's a dedicated dancer, taking up lessons as a child in traditional and against her parent's wishes, modern styles as well. Running to the stables and riding the horses helps her exert more energy and time alone from the hustle and bustle forced upon her life schedule. She enjoys a good conversation and connecting with people on a deeper level although it is quite difficult to do that when most of her social circle keep their noses in the air. Whether she admits it or not, she does find it relaxing to cook and read through the large library in her family's estate. Dislikes: Bugs make her quite squeamish in small numbers. She will surely faint if there is an army of them. Vye isn't fond of a great percent of her suitors seeing as they are all men. By the very least she is on a friendly basis with two of them due to their history of friendship as children. Cold baths are rather uncomfortable for her, even on warm summer days. She dislikes eating carrots and will pick them out of her plate while claiming she is allergic to them. Backstory: A lavish, dull lifestyle stuffed with lessons in etiquette, horseback riding, history and academia - such is the life of any Upper Quarter daughter of a nobleman. Scented baths, gossiping maids and endless suitors completely clueless of her orientation all thanks to her stubborn and ignorant parents. She is the youngest of three children. Her eldest brother, Sterne, is married with two children, they've inherited a large portion of their parent's wealth but are doing well on their own with a Jewelry business. Vye's older sister, Melony, recently got married to a snobby pig of a man. He is quite known for his womanizing ways yet his superfluous wealth overrode any hesitation on Melony's part. Currently Vye's ambitions include owning her own dance studio and traveling the world to perform in shows that display her passion. Unfortunately her parents and kin have a different idea of how she should live her life and the woman she should become - a house wife to a wealthy man bearing more grandchildren to their name. Right. Extra: - - - tba - - -

The distinct sound of a heavy hammer hitting burning red metal could be heard through out the small open aired shop Hank the the shops owner set forth in hammering the steel into a thin form atop the anvil in the middle of the floor. NinFeng watched his actions closely everytime he paused between lifts of his mighty hammer, Nin would poor water across his work, so that it can be formed or she would move the metal back into the burning fire so that it could be heated again, she had just set to pouring more water when Hank held up a hand to her he raised the blade he had just crafted in front of him, a personal dagger, one that could easily concealed but would still do a lot of damage. He was testing it's thickness with his hands, before holding it out to her raising a brow, she knew what he wanted. He was testing her, she was an apprentice blacksmith after all, what good would she be if she couldn't tell a finished job, to one that was yet to be completed? Nin nervously handled the blade holding it in both her gloved hands, moving it closely to her eye, and looking it over, appeared smooth enough, the slant from the back to it's edge seemed fine. But she knew how easily the eye could be deceived. Lowering the blade to the dirt Nin poured water over the blade and watched it flow, the droplets cascaded down the steel, but she noticed that the droplets around the hilt seemed to part before sliding towards the edge, upon further expectation, she realized that their was a protrusion in the metal there. It would need to be reheated and hammered out. Noting this with a nod Nin raised the blade to her teacher, pointing out the mistake but he shook his head stepping back, and giving her the floor. Again she knew what he wanted her too do, and was doubly nervous as she grabbed the tongs and lifted the blade into the fire, holding it there until the metal was red from heat and ready to be shaped she held the tongs in one hand, as she lifted the Blacksmiths hammer and started to shape the metal with it hammering away, praying with each strike that she wasn't messing up Hanks work. After watering down the blade and repeating the hammering she felt sure enough that she was done and she let hank inspect her work, while she stepped back. She felt something warm brush against her leg and hand and looked down to see Lai standing next to her, she gave him a small smile and a pat on his head, as she waited for Hank to give his thoughts, sweat was beading at her brow and she wiped it away, doing well to smudge the grit and dirt that she had acquired while working all day, all over her face. But she was used to being dirty so it didn't matter much to her. After what felt like ages Hank turned to her, and smiled raising the Dagger to her. "This be a fine blade, ye forged lass, and it be yours ta keep, but don't let me hear ya waving it around carelessly a Smith's first blade is sacred ye hear!" Hank's words were lost as Nin held the small Dagger in both her hands, her heart swelling she was so very proud in that moment that she could just shout, and shout she did, as she dove into Hanks arm giving him a hug that knocked the wind out of him. ______________________________________________________________ A Dagger was not the only gift Nin left work with that day, since Hank knew he could trust her with the hammer, he was going to let her start crafting, that meant a bit of a raise. She was going to be making a bit more coin for her work, not much more but any boost in currency was welcome and making 10 coins a week instead of 6 was well appreciated. He even gave her a pay day advance, she was walking around with 36 slightly dirty coins in her coin purse and it had her in a great mood. Hell if she worked at the Inn tonight she could make be sitting on a small fortune by her standards "We are going to eat well tonight Lai, hey I might be able to fetch a nice room at the inn tonight eh?!" Nin said excitedly to Lai, and the dog wagged his tail, and gave a small bark, before he seemed to register what she said and stopped walking, tilting his head at her, his tail thumping the ground as he sat on the loosely cobbled road. "What? O.k I'm just kidding I wouldn't leave you alone for a whole night while I slept in a nice warm inn. C'mon Lai, I'm mean but I aint cold now." Lai barked again and Nin could only assume he was in agreement as he stood and started walking along side her again, she smiled and continued her pace, picking up a joyous whistle that was rare for her, it was rare that she was ever in a good enough mood to whistle. Her whistling stopped however as Lai started barking, he had stopped and was facing a group of towns folk who seemed to be circling something or someone they were speaking rather loudly, words along the lines of telling someone being told that they didn't belong in the area.... Nin knew this could only mean trouble, and with Lai barking his head off, she had to approach the circle

She was day-dreaming of a certain maid in her cousin's estate. Big blue eyes and short curly hair resembling a setting sun. The way they held each other that night made her chest burst open a container of butterflies. Such a shame it was a drunken one night play date. And now she was stuck entertaining one of her suitors upon her parent's request. More like demand. A week long trip with him. One day of traveling equating to two total days of traveling meaning she only had to run around with him for five days. Geez, five days?! He sat several inches away in the carriage, his chestnut orbs perusing every curve on her well covered body. Not a lace or frilly cuff out of place despite all the bumps on the road. Vye turned away from the window to meet his gaze, a soft, friendly smile playing on her lips. Even if she had no intention of winning his heart or becoming physical, it was always nice to create some form of friendship with him as a human being. He was one of her newer suitors, a son of another nobleman with enough riches and jewels to make her parents salivate. Abram Skylander, a year or two older than her with onyx hair and amber eyes. He enjoyed fencing and hunting with his pals which made him at least a little interesting compared to the others. Vye's fingers curled around white fabric and suppled some air to herself with the help of the intricate and delicate looking fan. "Where are we going again? " "Tamoar City, they have the best resort and casino in the region. They host shows with dancers from all over the globe, I promise you'll love it." "Ten points for paying attention," Vye teased lightly, chuckling at her own sense of humor. "Dance shows and gambling, certainly not what I recall you telling our parents we were doing." "I know, dear. But the resort in Tamoar City is on the border of the Lower Quarter. They wouldn't let us have our fun for the week." "Sounds childish to lie, Abram." Vye shrugged her shoulders and looked back out the window. They only had one more hour to go. "As long as we get to see the dance shows I'll be happy."The resort was beautiful, maids and servants attending to all the details. Nothing out of the ordinary for Lady Melfaris other than the fact she didn't have her family breathing down her neck. They all probably hoped and prayed she would get serious with Abram after or during this trip. Funny. Their room was large, canopy bed, balcony and glass statues with rainbow wings. She didn't waste time to lead him out of the bedroom, avoiding any opportunity to be alone with him in there. As soon as they unpacked she dragged him outside to the marketplace just down the block from the resort with the argument that she'd like to see the city and locals. Abram complied, joining her on the adventure through the streets of Tamoar City. They spent the next half the day separately in the hot springs to socialize with the other guests of the resort. By the end of the day they had dinner at the rooftop of one of the local restaurants then traversed to the gambling rooms where the dancers flocked to on the multiple stages. It was a fun and exciting night up until the end. Abram practically held the walls and crawled up the stairs to their room after so much liquor. Vye helped him up, guiding him to the bed and dabbing a towel over his forehead to wipe the sweat off. Poor guy consumed more than he could handle. Then it happened. Upon making her third round for a new, dry towel, he grabbed her wrist. She struggled against his force but was shoved onto the bedroom ground by his weight. Forceful kisses on her neck caused her to to scream and kick. He had courted her for two months and was trusted enough by her parents to have her join him on this trip. Any act against her would not be in his favor, he'd be cast out from the list of potential mates without a second glance. She found his current behavior offensive and ridiculous. Once again, childish. Vye demanded he stop several times but finally had the last straw thirty minutes into the struggle. She finally managed to kick him in the sensitive area and throw the closest thing at his head which happened to be one of his shoes. Vye grabbed a change of clothes and comfortable shoes to storm off, proclaiming she needed fresh air. She followed the streets and signs but failed to give a crap when she crossed the marked border. Angry and slightly tipsy from the bottle of wine she had in the gambling rooms shrugged off any hesitation. She felt curious, twenty two years in the Upper Quarter and yet she never even knew what the Lower Quarter was like. All she knew was what she had been told. She continued walking, inspecting certain building and casting a smile at passerby's. The rumors about alligators and beasts roaming freely in the streets weren't true. Either was the rumor that those living in the Lower Quarter looked like deranged squirrels. ' I guess it's about time I head back. He should be sleeping by now anyway. I can find another carriage and just go home. ' Vye thought to herself as she turned a corner. She didn't get very far. Emerald eyes shifted back and forth to the group in front of her as they spat and pointed at her flowery, rather expensive garb. "You don't belong here Upper Quarter brat!" " Brat? I was on my way out anyway...h-hey, let go of me!" Vye cursed under her breathe, how many times in a day was she going to be man handled? One of the group members grabbed her waist. As a reaction she swung her hand to slap him. Before the palm of her hand could make any contact she was kicked to the ground landing hard on her rear. She yelped from shock and tried to stand up but was kicked back down again by another individual. "Please, this is really uncalled for!" Terrible, terrible day.

Nin had to force her way into the group twisting to her side as she pushed people out of the way, some would think that all the rough pushing and shoving would be met with returned aggression, however that was not the case in the slums, no one was exactly gentle you had to be tough if you wanted to be worth anything around here. Nin already had a name for herself so no one was surprised to see her pushing in, some even cleared the way for her, that street credibility helping her out, as she cleared the crowd, and made it to the eye of the storm, easily able to find out now what had caused the crowd to gather. Sitting on her a** in the middle of the group was a girl, a very cute one if Nin was to be honest, but cute girls in these parts wasn't uncommon. One just simply had to look past the grime, The girl in herself wasn't to out of the ordinary however what was out of the ordinary was the way the girl was dressed, and that gave Nin all the information she needed to know why the girl was drawing the crowd the way she was. The damn girl was from the uppers. Nin could hear the guys from the quarter at her, and she could also hear the girl try to keep her dignity and defend herself in quite a comical manor, there was no way she was ever gonna get anywhere talking like that, she needed a bit more venom and her voice, and more dirt. Nin shook her head, ready to turn and head to the tavern for the night and pick herself up a meal, when she heard Lai barking again, moving forward and sniffing at the fallen girls ankle. Nin rolled her eyes. "Lai, let's go." Nin urged. "Fang, get yer damn mutt out of here! A male spoke up from the crowd. "Piss off Garen!" Spat back, even though she sorta agreed with Garen on getting Lai out of there, she wasn't gonna let the man call her dog a mutt, around here you stuck up for your own, even if he was a dog. "Lai, come on." Nin spoke up again, this time through gritted teeth, but in response, her faithful pooch just barked back at her, sitting down next to the girl, and making his point. Nin heaved a sigh, before shouting out for the crowd to hear her. "Back off from this one boys, she's with me." Nin announced sighing, there was a murmur from the crowd, mostly from people that knew her and wouldn't cross her, and some from people who had wanted to do the girl harm and were now irritated that she was bringing a stop to that. "So it's true what they say eh Nin?" Fenrar asked? His tone taking on a taunting hint. Nin set a glare on him, "What do they say Fenrar?" Nin asked, stepping towards him, feeling particularly violent at the moment. "That you're a she-digger." Fenrar accused, now in the quarters, no one cared who you loved, or how you loved, but for Nin, she had gone out of her way to hide the fact that she liked woman, even while she turned men down left and right, so their were rumors about her, though unfounded they were true, no one knew for sure that she was gay, but she does. "Run that by me again Fenrar?" Nin requested stepping closer to the male, sensing a fight others cleared out of the way, whispering amongst themselves, taking bets now. "You heard me, you have a taste for the females don't ya Ni-" While he was talking, Nin pulled her freshly forged blade and pressed it right to Fenrar's gut "Say that again?" She asked, almost begged, twisting the top of the blade against Fen's shirt. "You-" Nin put a little pressure on the blade, poking his stomach "Ah?" She asked, and wisely Fenrar kept his mouth shut, taking a step back. "That's what I thought, next time I hear you bad mouthing me, I'll slice you right up the middle you hear?" Not waiting for an answer Nin turned back to the girl who was still on the floor. "Get up, and let's go." Nin ordered, pushing out of the crowd, she wasn't going to babysit the girl, nor was she going to look over her shoulder to see if the girl was following her, either she did or she didn't.

⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰⋰██ ██ ▌♚VYE ⇣ MELFARIS • • • • • • • • ▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃ Upper quarter brat...The way he said it with such hate and venom caused the corners of her mouth to drop into a pout. It was the first time anyone had spoken so cruelly to her in her life! Vye was out of her element. Fear and panic began to set into the noblewoman as the brutal kicks became harsher. One right after the other they beat her into the ground with their heavy, dirty, worn out boots and slippers. Her once spotless dress was now covered in muck and grime. She wanted them to stop but didn't know how, nothing from her books or lessons talked about how to fight. Etiquette and table manners was obsolete at this point. Vye inhaled sharply in preparation for another verbal complaint but paused when a rather large looking wolf, or dog or both, weaved through the crowd. The creature was followed by a slender, toned woman with long dark hair who eyed her up and down before proclaiming to go. Lai. That was the wolf-dog's name? The canine sniffed at Vye's feet, barking in response. " Hello to you too big guy, " Vye smalled for the first time that night. Her hands shifted through Lai's fur, loosening the layer of dirt over him. She was accustomed to sharing time with her horses but she had a soft spot for any creature in general. They weren't overly judgmental if judgmental at all, just good company. The canine licked her fingers in response, his tongue lapping over her flesh enthusiastically. Vye giggled, her hand departing his kisses by scratching at the back of his ears. Emerald eye fluttered up to see the owner argue with two of the group members. She must of had some pull or power in the lower quarter for most of their numbers to disperse and make room for her presence. It resembled that of her parents demeanor in a crowd of peasants, standing tall, strong and confident. Although she was just as dirty as the rest with a bad mouth, she was still different in a way. Especially in a way that Vye felt she could never be. Garen, Fenrar, Nin, Lai. Vye put the names to memory for future purposes. Their disagreement covered Lai's spot in the center and Nin's "she-digging" ways. She-digging? Was that their way of saying Nin liked the same sex? Hard to decipher their lingo. Vye blinked several times in surprise, "---she's with me." A wave of relief flooded over, providing Vye the strength to finally stand up. She brushed herself off as much as possible and even started to adjust the hair rings over her head that became undone from the abusive lower quarter group. The argument heated up, Nin pulling out a blade on the man and pointing it at his abdomen. He quickly stepped away, not ready to have it sink into his flesh. Vye's hands raised up to cover her mouth to prevent an audible gasp, she'd never seen a fight before. Anytime one would break out in a public place she was told to look away or hold her fan up. With the dispute over, Nin ordered them to leave, shoving people out of the way and not looking back. Lai nudged his head over Vye's legs before running after Nin. ' Well, not like I have any other choice. ' Vye took her leave with a head held high, determined to ignore the gossips and glares. When they were at a good distance, Vye bowed her head to her savior. " Thank you so much, I wouldn't have gotten out of there without your help. And your adorable canine friend too. Nin and Lai, right? " Vye clasped her hands together and bowed gratefully once more. " I owe both of you one. My name is Vye, Vye Melfaris. " She straightened up and smiled.

Nin lead the girl far away from the group of her fellow lower quarter slum dwellers, she could feel their eyes on them as she departed, knowing that this would be the talk of the town for some time, and that she was going to have to deal with a large amount of crap from everyone over it. Nin gritted her teeth, regretting her decision to step in, she should have just let the girl get beaten into the dirt, she would have learned a lesson from it. a** whipping build character, Nin knew that from experience. Not to say that this girl didn't have character, she definitely had something, with the way she carried herself. Nin didn't know how to describe it, but she didn't carry herself like some rich snob, and when they were out of the eye of the crowd, the girl thanked her and Lai for coming to her aid, she called Lai adorable and Nin could tell that the mutt, yes she was calling him a mutt because only she could talk about him like that, was enjoying the attention. The dog was practically strutting. Nin shook her head at the dog, and in turn at the girl who seemed to have picked up their named from the crowd as Nin and Lai. Nin shook her head at that, the girl was right, but still Nin felt she need to make something clear. "NinFeng," She said, pointing at herself before pointing to Lai. "and that's LaiFeng." Nin corrected, squaring off with the girl and placing her hands on her hips. She eyed the girl as she bowed before her, expressing her gratitude and introducing herself. The girl expressed that she odd Nin one, Nin was willing to collect her debt now. "Your words and gestures are worth absolutely nothing around her Vye, you want to repay me?" Nin asked, raising a brow as she stepped towards the girl, hovering over her menacingly, mean mugging the girl, something everyone in the slums could do pretty well. "Give me all your money, and in exchange I will escort you back to where ever it was that you were staying tonight." Nin said gruffly. She crossed her arms before her and waiting, this wasn't a request, and the floor wasn't open for negotiation. She was going to get this girl was going to pay, upfront for the s**t that Nin was going to deal with for helping her, it was up to her to decide if it was going to be willingly or unwillingly.
