Gabriel sighed, leaning his forehead on Des's door for a moment to steel himself. It was Valentine's Day, and as much as he knew he was still in a lot of trouble, he was at least going to make an attempt. So even though he knew it was dumb and cheesy, he had a bouquet and a card and a box of chocolates, because he was at least going to try.
He took a breath and knocked on the door, praying Des was home and not engrossed in his work.

"It's open!" Des called from the other room. He had been working on some projects, trying to get them done on time for once instead of waiting till the last minute. And for once, he was actually going to be done a head of schedule. There was just one thing left to finished.

"Okay," Gabriel called back, stepping in and setting the gifts down on the kitchen table. He walked into the room where Des's desk was, lingering in the doorway for a long moment. "Happy Valentine's Day, starshine," he said, his voice quiet.

"Heeey, don't mind me. I'm almost done. I'm actually doing my work on time for once. I'll be done in a sec, promise. Arsenic's around here somewhere if you wanna entertain her. She was chewing on my paint brushes earlier." For as frantic as he was being with his sketches, Des was also being very careful with his strokes. "So what did yo want to to- Wait what did you say?" Des blinked, finally looking up. The gears slowly began to click into place and when they did, the purple haired boys head dropped with a loud thunk. "Fuuuuuuuck I forgot."

Gabriel laughed quietly. "I'm here to see you, not Arsenic," he said, walking over to his boyfriend and then stopping at the edge of the desk. "It's okay, it's just a holiday. I got you some stuff, it's in the kitchen."

"Yeah, but I meant while you wait.. She IS your cat you know." Even if the fuzz ball spent her days here. The teen sighed again as he rubbed his head, turning his chair so that he was facing Gabriel. "Yeah.. But I didn't know what you had planned or wanted to do.. And I didn't mean to forget, I was just on a roll..." He frowned. "I'm trying not to be such a procrastinator..."

"Well, if you're up for it, I'd like to take you out to dinner, at least," Gabriel said, and then he sighed and without really thinking, walked over to plop himself in Des's lap. God, why did everything about being around his boyfriend hurt? "I love you," he murmured, pressing his face into Des's chest.

"Sounds good, did you have any place in mind?" He blinked, jumping slightly when Gabriel climbed in his lap. "Hey, what's up?" Des asked as he wrapped an arm around Gabriel's waist to keep him from slipping out of the chair all together.

Gabriel smiled faintly against Des's chest, trying to shove back the urge to sob all over him, which would help exactly not at all. "It's nothing. I've just missed being close to you." He didn't mention that this was the first time Des had really reached for him since the incident.

"Ah... Was I doing that thing again? I really should be more attentive when I'm working..." Des needed to stop zoning out so much when doing his projects, perhaps he'd be able to take decent breaks if he paid attention to things besides his work. "Are you sure you want to go out then? We can just stay here, it's been a while since we've done a movie night right?"

It was strange to Gabriel that Des was acting so...normal. So casual, as if there wasn't something fundamentally wrong. There was a part of Gabriel that wanted to push his luck - to lean up and steal a kiss - but the part that wanted to bury his head in Des's chest and cry was what actually won. At least he had his voice under control - no sobbing. "I'm happy just being with you, here or out, doesn't matter to me, starshine."

Okay, now he definitely knew something was wrong. "I'm okay with either too, but by the way you're clinging to me it's kinda evident you don't want to move. What's bugging you?" The hand around Gabriel's waist moved to rub at the back of his neck, but not before brushing the strands of reddish-brown hair off to the side.

"I'm probably just being stupid," Gabriel murmured, and it was a lot easier to believe that when Des was being actively reassuring. He took a breath, hands reaching up to cling in his boyfriend's shirt. "But I - I feel like you don't have the same feelings for me that you used to."

Des just blinked, cocking his head in confusion. "What are you going on about. Of course I have the same feelings.. I've just been... thinking things over." ...That sounded a lot better in his head.

Reluctantly, Gabriel disentangled himself from Des, climbing out of his boyfriend's lap and wiping at his face with his sleeves. Goddamn emotional responses. "You don't want to touch me anymore. You certainly don't say 'I love you.' You've stopped calling me Angel, but I really don't deserve to be called that and I guess you finally figured that out - but you did that before we were even dating and it's all little stuff but it's all there and it hurts."
