Some time ago, before I was known as Absinthe, I was a youth with a genius intellect and many passions to pursue. Any chosen field I entered I quickly rose to the top of. The media interviewed me as one of the youngest neurosurgeons in the medical field, as a psychoanalyst and dream therapist, a councilor for troubled youth, and and a computer wizard in both hardware and software. Despite the prestige, fame and other benefits that I was rewarded with, I had yet to fulfill my greatest ambition.

I bought an old hospital building and spent most of my fortune equipping it with state-of-the-art technology, including a server farm that would run my prized creation, the Eden System; within it, a virtual world that could host the minds of multiple people. The people I chose to enter this world were youths from all different backgrounds and circumstances- but all of them were broken in ways that the resources of the normal world could not alleviate. Kids who had suffered trauma that not many of us could even imagine; some who had no where else to run, some who had failed to escape life multiple times. I wanted to give them all one last chance; a chance that might allow them to break through their darkness and find a path back to humanity.

You are one of these candidates. You were brought to me by one of my many colleagues or contacts; you might have had some understanding of what was going on, or maybe you were just a hollow husk that had retreated from the sensory world. We put your body into a medically-induced coma and connected your brain to the Eden System, which created a Persona that would allow your consciousness to interact with the virtual world. In this process, we disconnected you from your real-life past; all the horrible memories, the pain, the suffering; all gone from your mind. You have the freedom to function and think again without fear.

At the same time, you are now a wandering amnesiac- to become a full person again, you will need to gain new memories and experiences to replace the old. You will achieve this with the help of the other Users; you will share good times and bad, your personalities and your lives refilling themselves with strength and meaning.

Now that you are in the System, you have two ways of exiting; by facing your monsters and overcoming your ills to forge a new future for yourself... or not.

҉ x Gaia is host to many different roleplaying level, styles and preferences. This RP is designed to be generally accepting of this wide variety. Thus, whether you're someone who churns out a small novel for each post or someone who gives the minimum necessary, whether you spend hours on formatting and posting styles or you just want to write words and nothing else, all will be accepted here. The main thing above all else to remember is:
Roleplaying is just as much about others as it is about you.
Good RPs work because of the people you play with; if they're happy with you, they're far more likely to be happy with them, and everyone will have a good time. Sometimes this means taking the short end of the stick in order for someone else's character to get their moment. But, ideally that give will turn into take later on. So, as much as you love your perfectly-crafted, extensively-thought out character... try as much as you can to keep a mindset about "how can I help out my other players" rather than "how can I accomplish what I want for my character". You will likely find the second goal following close on the heels of the first.

҉ x The only other thing to remember is that there are some places where you are not allowed to post because of your character's current status in the System. Within the EdEn sErvEr, there will be threads that are labeled with a [CR], which means "Codec Required". [Codecs] are datafiles that your character will acquire during the RP that allow them access to different parts of the virtual world. However, since there is no technical way to lock characters out of them, the honor system must be observed here. Also, any Users that are found in a thread that requires a [codec] they do not have will have their Rank reduced as a penalty.




҉ x There are two main "phases" to this RP, which depend upon if the EdEn.ExE is running or not. If it is not, all Users are together in the EdEn sErvEr threads, and are generally able to interact with eachother and do whatever else they want. You can think of it like a "home base" a "waiting server" or a safe town in an RPG. Once the ServAdmin starts the EdEn.ExE program, all active Users are given [Re:memories] to fulfill and enter the program. From then on they are RPing in the EdEn.ExE servers until the program terminates, at which point everyone goes back to the EdEn sErvEr.




All [C://personas], when the EdEn.ExE program starts, are given a designated server (subforum) to use. All users within this subforum can interact with each other. Users CANNOT use any other server (subforum) during the program, including the EdEn sErvEr.

The goal of each User is to fulfill the conditions of their [re:memory]. They will invariably require the help of the other Users in their server to accomplish this; however, each User's [re:memory] will be varied. They must find ways to compromise and collaborate to achieve their goals; otherwise the other Users will overtake them and they will come out with nothing!

The virtual space the Users are dropped in has some basic features and objects, as described in the starting post. However, beyond that the Users are ultimately in complete control of this space, which they can manipulate with their minds alone.

There is a technical limit to this ability, however. A User can only do one of the three following things in a single post.



(( For example, let's say three Users enter the virtual space, and it currently appears as a desert island. One User may decide to make a boat that is anchored nearby [create a thing]. The next User might decide what they need is not a boat, but a plane, and [changes a thing] to make it so. The last User might have other plans (and be a bit of a jerk), so they [delete a thing] and leave them back at square one.))

҉ x For reasons that will be explained in the post about Rank, it is beneficial for all involved to complete their [Re:memories] as fast as possible, or at least faster than the other Users. At the same time, exploration of the virtual space is encouraged, as well as introducing aspects that will challenge the User's weak points and personal problems. Both will reward them with extra Rank. Also, if the Users are able to poke about in the right spots and figure out some clues, they will be rewarded with [datafiles], another major aspect of the game. [Re:memories] are generally relatively vague or cryptic; only the ServAdmin can determine when the Users have fulfilled them.

all new Users' Rank starts at -10-.

A User's rank can increase by performing well in [re:memories].
Specifically, when the EdEn.ExE program is executed, all active Users participate in the program. Those who complete their [re:memory] first are rewarded with +10 Rank.

Those who finish second get +5 Rank. Those who finish third get +2 Rank. Anyone else gets 0 Rank. However, if any Users fail to finish their [re:memory] before the ServAdmin terminates the program (generally a period of time set after the first users have finished), those Users have their Rank reduced by 1/3 (rounded up).
Any Users who reach 0 Rank are too much of a detriment to the system and must be deleted from system memory.

Some Users may be given a particularly difficult [re:memory], which will grant them extra Rank if they can complete them.

Another important way to gain Rank is through the User's personal development during their [re:memory]. If the User is able to do one or more of the following, they will be awarded bonus Rank.
- Relying on a Talent to accomplish a [re:memory] (+2)
- Overcoming a Fear (+2)
- Winning against one of their Monsters (+5)
- Getting over a Fear (+5)
- Getting over one of their Monsters (+20)

- Every 4 posts longer the thread is than the [re:memory] that finished first (+1)


Other things affecting Rank

two Users may choose to exchange [.jpgs] or .[gifs] for the cost of 2 Rank each. (ServAdmin must be notified of the exchange for it to be legal).

A User with a [codec] may grant another User that [codec] without losing their own; however, the process costs the original User 4 Rank. Again, a ServAdmin must be notified for the process to be valid.

Breaking any rules or disobeying the ServAdmins will result in a reduction in Rank based upon the offense.

High Rank

if a user proves themselves worthy of the responsibility, they may be offered a position as a ServAdmin. This position requires a certain, undisclosed amount of Rank to achieve. (Hint: it is very high).
