[C://persona]
- The [C://persona] is a User's personality and consciousness, uploaded onto the System's servers. It is effectively the user's virtual "soul", which can grow and change during their experiences in EdEn. When it is uploaded as a "C", they are an active persona that can be uploaded into [re:memories] in order to gain Rank within the System.
[codec]
- A [codec] is a datafile that translates parts of the System's code into something that can be rendered to the User's [C://persona]. Some areas of the System and the EdEn sErvEr require different [codecs] to access, effectively making them like "keys" for different areas. [codecs] can be acquired as a reward for completing a [re:memory], found within a [re:memory], or granted by someone who already has the [codec].
[datafile]
- [datafiles] are small packages of code that are generally designed for a single purpose. They are made to be carried and used by a single User at a time, and can be swapped and discarded as well. The [datafiles] that Users will interact with the most are [.jpgs], [.gifs], [.rars], and [codecs].
[D://persona]
- The [D://persona] is effectively a compacted, backup copy of the user's Persona stored on a server not directly connected to EdEn. Sometimes Users find it necessary to take a break from the virtual world, and to avoid losing Rank due to inactivity and not completing [re:memories]. Users can have their personas stored on here until they feel compelled to return to the virtual world.
EdEn.ExE
- The title of this Roleplay, as well as the name of the principal computer program that the plot is based around. This is the program that allows the Users to enter their [re:memories] and affect the GUI. The name will have many subtitles depending upon the iteration that is used, but it will always remain EdEn.ExE.
[.gif]
- one of the most common types of [datafiles]. The defining feature of a [.gif] is that when employed, a specific action or event is carried out to a predetermined endpoint. Examples would be a [.gif] that makes a large tree sprout out of nowhere and then quickly fall apart, a large swarm of butterflies temporarily fill the air, or an eerie melody play in the background. [.gifs] can affect all five senses, and the effects are not illusory in the virtual world; every object and User is affected as they normally would be in the real world, unless otherwise programmed. In comparison to [.jpgs], [.gifs] generally have a larger or flashier effect on the virtual world; however, [.jpgs] are usually more versatile, since [.gifs] are very specific and their end-point predetermined.
GUI
- GUI stands for "Graphical User Interface"; in this world it is not exactly analogous to GUIs in normal computers. In the System GUI refers to any aspect of the virtual reality that the User can interact with with one or more of their senses. Everything they see, hear, feel, etc. is a part of the GUI.
[.jpg]
- one of the most common types of [datafiles]. The defining feature of [.jpgs] is the static, lasting effect on the virtual world. Most [.jpgs] appear as some kind of bodily modification, personal object or small pet-vassal. Examples might include fiery wings, a staff made of warped wood or a white fox-creature. The extent of what these things can do is largely up to the User's imagination. Roleplaying-wise, the player should be a good judge of what the item could sensibly accomplish and what it could not. In comparison to [.gifs], [.jpgs] are more versatile, since the User can determine what to do with them and come up with creative ways to employ their power. However, by themselves they often end up as little more than decorations, and cannot affect the virtual world in larger ways that [.gifs] can.
[.rar]
- [.rars] are a semi-common type of [datafile]. The purpose of [.rar] [datafiles] is to act as a storage unit for other [datafiles], mainly [.gifs], [.jpgs] and [codecs]. A User starts with a limited amount of space on their [C://persona] to store [datafiles], so after a little while [.rars] can become invaluable.
[Rank]
- [Rank] is a general value of how much a User has accomplished during their time in the virtual world. Everything to do with [Rank] is explained in the post in the rEadmE.
[re:memory] (also re:memories as plural)
- programs that are fabricated by the Server Administrators to serve as replacement "memories" for Users within the EdEn.ExE program. Many times, the images and sensations that the Users experience are vague or cryptic in nature, requiring them to be intuitive, curious and courageous in order to 'realize' their false memories. Once the User has the [re:memory] installed in their [C://persona], the EdEn.ExE program will create a GUI based on it, which the Users can manipulate with their own wills. Completed [re:memories] are stored in the Archive Server.
The System
- The System is the general name for both the supercomputer I have built and the virtual reality contained within. The System is also sometimes referred to as EdEn, but since EdEn is used in the names of other aspects of the System as well it is a moniker used sparingly.
[User]
- Users are the people who have been hooked up to the EdEn systEm and had their minds converted into a ̈́ ͛ ̏ ˞ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ˞ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ˞ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ˞ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ˞ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ˞ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ˞ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ˞ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ˞ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ˞ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ˞ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ˞ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ˞ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ˞ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ˞ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ˞ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ˞ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ˞ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ˞ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ˞ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ˞ ̈́ ͛ ̏ ழ
