User ImageWhoever had come up with the expression that time heals all wounds needed to be sought out and dispatched of. Illyria had been idle on the ground for too long already. The mare's wing had been examined by one of the Khalasar's healers and she had been explicitly warned to not fly until it was deemed fully healed. It had only been a week since Viserys's abrupt and ill-timed attack on her and Illyria was still seething that he'd dared to act in such a manner. What part of being left alone had Daenerys's brother not understood?

Illyria grimaced as she looked down at the section of her wing that had been caught in Viserys's teeth. It still looked ugly to her. She had been determined to pluck the damaged feathers off her wing before she'd gone to see Yayo'jin for advice on what to do. It was on Yayo'jin's advice that she leave the feathers alone and instead the healer had placed a stick along her wing and then wound a small piece of fabric around her wing and the stick. The feeling of the stick alongside her appendage was an odd sensation that Illyria was still getting used to.

It was also unnerving to remain on the ground when she could be in the air. The Khalasar actually moved around a lot more than Illyria had expected and she was surprised to be comforted by the constant moves. Was it a mistake to let her wariness over being "hunted" by her own people fade?

The stick had to go. Illyria stood apart from the rest of the Khalasar as she stared down at the fabric wound around the base of her wing. That small strip of white marked her as invalid, as someone who couldn't pull her own weight. It was frustrating enough to know that she wasn't fully healed yet but the inability to soar in the sky was chafing at Illyria's spirit. Yayo'jin had said it was alright to remove the splint if she still allowed her wing to continue healing without flying.

She had become withdrawn from the rest of the members of this herd that had welcomed her openly. For an extremely odd reason Illyria felt that she had been purposely singled out by the stallion Viserys. The question now was how could she pay the stallion back for the pain he had caused her? For now though the thought of repaying Viserys back for the injury that he'd given her was just a small guilty thought at the back of her mind.

Reaching down Illyria grasped the fabric and pulled. She winced as a wave of pain washed through her wing before she tucked it tightly against her side. The stick was crushed under her hoof as she ground down on it with the surge of anger that rose inside. She would pay Viserys back. She promised herself a silent vow that he would know misery.

Spring was in the air. Illyria had waited long enough it seemed. Every day since she had removed the splint from along her wing she had been gently exercising the limb in order to keep it from stiffening up. There was still the occasional twinge of pain that went along with these exercises but Illyria was confident that there was healing taking place. Her mind was still locked on the idea that Viserys needed to be paid back for this disservice that he had done her.

Taking a breather Illyria sighed softly before letting her gaze sweep over the rest of the nearby members of the Khalasar. She had been grounded long enough. The mare narrowed her eyes before backing up a few steps. She needed to do this ... she had to get back in the air again. However she was uncertain about launching herself into the air and possibly failing in front of an audience. Illyria turned her back to the others and trotted out of sight. The threat of prying eyes watching a possible disgrace was an unnerving thought. This pivotal moment had to be done in private, away from the others.

She was now out of sight from the rest of the Khalasar. Illyria had spent the last little while pacing back and forth in agitation. On the one hand she wished to experience the freedom one felt with the air passing under their wings but there was still a little bit of nervousness in her mind that she would fail in her first attempt to fly again and ruin something more in her wing. But this needed to be done otherwise she'd be too afraid to try again.

Closing her eyes and calming herself down Illyria gave her wings a few experimental pumps up and down and was relieved not to experience any pain. It seemed as if things were looking up. Now was the hardest part of this experiment. Illyria inhaled deeply and braced herself before leaping into the air. Her wings swept downwards and then upwards giving her the ability to defy gravity. Illyria skimmed the earth briefly with her hooves before pushing herself to go higher. There was a feeling of jubilation as she realized that she was flying successfully once again.

The feeling of being in the air once again lightened the heaviness that Illyria had been weighted down with since it was deemed that she had to stay grounded while her wing healed. At that pronouncement something inside her had wilted. She had stuck with the Khalasar for added safety in numbers. There was still the fact that Illyria was sure that others from her homeland would come looking for her. At least with the ability to fly restored to her things were looking up once more. At the first brief twinge of pain in her wings Illyria realized that she had been flying too long for the first attempt. Regretfully she angled her flight towards an ideal location to land.

Grass cushioned her impact slightly and Illyria regretfully noted that she'd flown a little further than she had thought. It would take a while to walk back to the Khalasar. For now though she eyed the greener shoots of grass at her feet and began to graze. The freshness of the grass was a balm to the hunger licking at her stomach. Although she was idle, except for the act of grazing, her mind was not.

Amongst the thoughts of home were the unpleasant ones that revolved around plotting her possible revenge. How could she get at Viserys for his treatment of her and the injury that he had caused her? She could not forgive the stallion. Even if he were to apologize for his actions, which Illyria was sure would never happen; she would never accept the apology. Her eyes closed briefly as she imagined the stallion's ultimate demise before shaking her head. Thoughts of vengeance was fine but putting them into action would be tricky and somewhat unlike her.

Something had changed inside Illyria after Viserys had attacked her. He could not have predicted that he would unleash a terrible side to the mare that he might come to regret later on. A soft smile appeared as Illyria finished her grazing period. She released a sigh after remembering that she had to walk back to where the Khalasar was located. The time it seemed had come. She would have to alert Daenerys to the fact that she no longer believed that staying within the Khalasar was an option that remained open to her. The time had come it seemed where she would need to part ways with the group. They had been nothing but kind and Illyria was sure that once she perceived that she no longer had a threat hanging over her head that she would possibly return? She also believed that if she remained with the Khalasar that there would be someone who would find out what she was plotting. She needed to eliminate that possibility and leaving the Khalasar seemed to be the best idea.
