There were times where Leilani and her father had a difference of opinion on which way their journey should take them next. This was a quandary they had learned to solve long ago by each of them going their separate ways only to return later having seen new faces, learned new stories and gone on new adventures in the interim. Experiences which they recounted to one another when they met again days, weeks or sometimes even months later. It was a shared habit that suited father and daughter quite well.
This journey in particular brought her to a place she could not recall having been before - a valley near the base of mountains said to be home to the winged sort. She had decided days ago that it was probably safer to not venture to said mountains since she lacked wings of her own to make such a journey safely. Besides from the looks of this place there would be plenty here to explore. At present she was following a trail that had originally been carved out by smaller animals, though there were somewhat recent signs of other soquili passing this way. It was a fair weather day so perhaps she might run across one of the locals eventually, or maybe even a friendly herd if she was lucky.
The path gradually opened up wider, trees and brush gave away to a field of high grass, dotted with colorful wildflowers. The sound of a stream running nearby made her ears perk, she couldn't see it just yet but it was enough to remind her she had not stopped for a drink for some time. The breeze was enough to tossle her mane and tail a bit as she picked her way through the high grass in search of the elusive water.

 Siébel wasn't a very good flier. She never under quite understood why she had wings when neither of her parents did, but her father assured it happened sometimes. That either his family or his mothers had wings somewhere up in their lineage and they just pop up sometimes. Not that Siébel didn't love her wings, but very few members if her herd had them, so flight lessons were few and far between.
But, independent as she was, she mostly taught herself. She wasn't overly concerned about being 'graceful' just functional. So coming off a vigorous round of 'flying,' Siébel noticed an unfamiliar face milling around the valley. When she saw the chocolate colored coat from the air, she assumed it was Candy, but no...this was definitely a different mare.
She attempted to land close to her... she made contact with the ground and stumbled forward a few steps. "Ooomph," she exhaled as she steadied herself. Ok, so the landing was a 3/10 at best, but at least she was on all four hooves.
Gathering her thoughts, she tossed her wind-blown hair out of her face and smiled at the newcomer. "Hi there," she said, "Can I help you?"mistalina13 So sorry for the delayed response!

By the time the other mare had landed Leilani had found her way to the elusive stream and had dipped her muzzle in for a drink, and part of her long mane pooled into the water as well. The sound of hooves hitting ground made her ears perk and but she didn't think much of it- perhaps it was a deer she had not noticed passing by. That was until a feminine voice addressed her. She snorted a bit of water and turned sharply, sending her mane flying- some of the water might even land on the other female's hooves.
"H-hello." Her startled expression wore off rather quickly, leaving a bit of embarrassment in its wake. "Sorry about that."Kamiki Its okay. I am a bit slow on responses lately as well.

"Sorry about what?" she asked, rolling her shoulders. It wasn't accusatory, just a genuine question. "No worries, my name is Siébel," she offered, taking a few steps closer. Her voice was a little husky, but feminine. She looked young and lean, but perhaps a bit ragged around the edges. Her mane was unruly; her natural curls frizzy and with a few leaves and bits stuck in them. Her coat was mostly clean, but her hooves had a healthy caking of mud on them as if she had no problem galloping through the dirt.

"Thought I might have splashed you." She tossed her head a bit to indicate her mane. Just one of the many hazards of a lengthy mane and tail.
Siébel? That was an interesting sounding name. "Leilani." She was older than the other mare was, though her manner might not betray as much. The evidence of her journey was easy to see - leaves, twigs and grass from the nearby forest underbrush had gotten caught up in mane and tail. Plus there was plenty of dirt and mud staining her fetlocks making them appear more brown than white. Not all of it was from this particular walkabout but most of it was.
"Hopefully I'm not trespassing?" It didn't seem so, given Siébel's manner but better safe than sorry.

"Uhm, I guess technically..." she said, but there was a good natured chuckle in her voice. "I mean, its not like we have guards or anything, but me and my family live 'round here." She looked up at the tall mountains overhead, then back to the meadows and thickets that sprinkled the valley at the base. "We don't get all bent outta shape about people passing through, though, unlike some people." She gave a side glance back to the mountain; having heard the stories of the territorial and powerful wind herd that lived there. She didn't have the talent or the desire to brave the mountainous winds that protected the high peaks.
"Anyway, everyone's welcome," she said, giving a lopsided smile.

"I have run into some who did not care much for visitors. When I was young my father and I were chased off more than once for unintentional trespassing." She noted silently that Siébel looked toward the mountains as she spoke. Apparently there was some truth to that tale of the herd on the peak then. "I appreciate the welcoming party, even if it was unintended." She smiled too.
"Any sights in particular that I should endeavor to see before I go?" Quizzing the locals was always interesting and it usually led to sights she would not have otherwise come across on her own.

"Oh, well if I had known there was going to be a party, I would have been better prepared," she chuckled. "Maybe some decorations and some goodies." She gave her a friendly smile and looked around her lands as the other mare inquired. "As far as the sights to see... uhm not really. We live pretty simple here. Nothing very exciting, just keeping to ourselves."
She tossed her frizzy mane. "What about you? Where ya headin'?"

Leilani smiled when Siébel laughed. "Nothing wrong with simplicity, frills often cause too much of a fuss anyway." She had never lived in a tightly structured environment, it had always been just her, her father and her son...when the stallion chose to appear anyway. An occurrence that was less often than it had been in past seasons. "Regardless it is pleasant here." Present company very much included. The other mare's demeanor made her feel comfortable and she liked that.
"Me? Nowhere in particular really, I just pick a direction that seems good and go." The finest nomad tendencies, instilled in her by her father. He had once been bound in service and once he found his freedom he relished it. So he had passed on that need for freedom to her so that she might never end up sharing his old fate. "Beyond that I aim for places I haven't been before."

"That sounds like fun," she said with a nod. "I mean, I like to fly and stuff, but I'm worried if I fly too far off I'm going to get lost and end up all homesick and not know how to find my way back home to m'dad. He doesn't have wings so I can go a lot further them him, especially since I'm all grown up now and he doesn't have to watch me all the time."
She pawed the grass. "Well, I mean, I'm not a total grown up, I guess. But you know. My dad says I can leave if I want to. But I guess I don't really wanna. At least not forever. Was it scary for you? To just wader 'round like that?"

"There were times, particularly when I was very little, that I wished I could fly. I wanted to see everything from up above like the birds do." She chuckled, though her tone seemed a bit sheepish during the admission. Unfortunately she had not been suddenly able to sprout wings like she wished but she had learned to make due with other ways of getting to higher ground.
"I think when I was young I was too curious for it to truly be scary. Though when I was little I never went very far from home unless I was with my dad, so he was there to protect me when I needed it." Leilani wondered absently where he might have gone this time. Hopefully he was enjoying his time as much as she was here. "Shall we go for a walk?"

"Yeah I'm not gonna lie, flying is pretty fun," she said with a chuckle. "I was really uncertain about it at first, because like, neither my mom nor my dad had wings... so I thought I was kind of a outcast. But my Uncle Xandir has wings and he taught me the basics, and I've just loved it ever since."
She fluffed her wings for effect, then smiled back at the mare. "Sure, a walk sounds lovely!"

"I can believe that, I've never heard any complaints from the birds." She smiled. "Outcast? Hardly. If anything I think it makes you special." At least she had someone who could teach her how to fly, it seemed like a hard thing to learn completely on one's own.
"I have an idea. You pick which way we go." That way it could be a fun little adventure. Sure Siébel knew the area but they might find something that was surprising.

Siébel chucked as she mentioned the birds, "Well, that's a good point," she said. But when Leilani called her special, the tomboyish mare felt her cheeks burn under her fur unexpectedly. She covered the tip of her muzzle with a wing, hoping to hide the pink blush that was showing through the soft skin of her nose.
"Ah, how about this way!" she said quickly, randomly spinning around and looking over to the west. The mountains would be bearing at their right, and the plains to the left, which left the forested valley they could meander through.
