Ah, freedom had been so sweet. Now that he was free he realized just how much he'd missed being able to do just about anything without being chaperoned by some one. It wasn't that his life had been all too terrible with that herd of head strong mares... But he missed being able to schmooze and flirt and back talk without so much as a grumpy glance telling him to tread lightly and not press his luck. He'd been free a few days now.. his son seemed to be slowly adapting to the idea of not needing some one's permission to wander on his own. With him feeling more at ease, he'd slipped off to enjoy the simple beauties of his freedom.

Astraea was once again traveling silently and alone. It wasn't what she wanted, but it was what she had. Her children hadn't been abandoned as she had been, she couldn't do that to them. But she knew they were better off without her. Even if it hurt to know they would be raised by others.

But she couldn't dwell on that. Astraea knew they were okay. Now she needed to worry about herself. She was looking for something besides grass to eat while hoping she didn't end up in the territory of someone who would see her as dinner.

He passed some trees as he wandered. He'd seen wild life and plants when helping Luinil hunt, but there was something different about just how much you enjoy the same sorts of things when you're free. Sure.. He wasn't entirely held against his will.. He'd made a bargain with the mare that captured him that he'd stay there and planned on sticking to his word, that was until his son's life became in danger.

He'd done what he had to do and if that left him for sworn, then he'd live with it. These were the sort of things that shouldn't have plagued his mind as he passed the first green things he'd seen all winter long. Shaking his head, he stuffed down the ghosts that haunted his memories. It wasn't ghosts of the dead, but ghosts of choices he'd made.

User ImageAstraea saw green and delicious looking foliage just ahead and her mouth watered. But the sound of something moving about ahead stilled her. She didn't see what made the sound, but figured it was likely as large as her. She slowed her breathing, trying to make herself as silent as possible, her body held still.

Her eyes strain to see movement, Astraea finally notices something blue moving between the trees and bushes in the area ahead of her. But she didn't get enough of a look to know what it was. She figured it likely was another soquili, but that didn't mean safety. Even if it wasn't a meat eater, there was still a good chance that whoever it was was there to guard the food. She'd been chased away from food, water, herds, etc many times in her life.

Maybe she would be luckly. Astraea could only hope the other was just passing through. That was a realistic hope. That they might be friendly . . . she tried to keep her heart from that hope. It only hurt when such hopes were dashed.

Looking up at the branches who hadn't quite started to bud leaves yet, he let out a slight sigh and scanned the surrounding area. Dark wood.. scronny branches.. a white figure.. bushes and even a few birds. Wait.. A white figure? Scanning his vision back, he looked to see if the figure was still there. "Hello?" He was beginning to start to think he was loosing his mind before he spotted the pale figure in the trees once more. Making his way closer, he paused at a decent distance so as not to seem threatening. "Why hello.." He chuckled and offered her a friendly smile.

Yes, definitely someone out there. But he looked friendly. Astraea had experiences with those who seemed friendly before. Some of them were friendly, if not welcoming. Some were duplicitous. But she wouldn't know until she tried.

Astraea dips her head slightly. Her voice a whisper that speaks to how little she uses it, "Hello."

Perhaps she should say more than that. Surely she should say more than that. But what more Astraea didn't know. And it was safer to say less, she was sure. If she said more, it was likely to be the wrong thing, and then she would have to leave again.

"Careful miss.. there the lands to the north are run by a herd of mares..." He arched a brow slightly. "Unless you're one of them.. And if you are then kindly move along." He was sure that the flock's mares would have acted hostile to that comment alone. "If you're not.. then welcome and have your fill of the greenery.. I've already eaten my fill so don't feel like you're putting me out to hunger should you take a nibble." He flashed her a cheeky smile and gave a quick wink to show he meant no harm or ill will.

User ImageAstraea was a bit confused at his words. Why he would have problems, or think she would have problems, with a herd run by mares, she didn't know. But he wasn't threatening or attacking.

Another very slight incline of her head precedes her slowly and hesitantly moving forward towards the greenery. Her eyes continually move between him and the food, her muscles taunt and ready to flee. But when she moves, it is with a smoothness that doesn't start or jump. She had learned that for some, such movement invited attack.

Astraea couldn't help but notice how nice his smile was. She didn't know what the wink meant, but she wouldn't ask. Finally reaching the plants, she takes care to move in such a way that she doesn't have her back, or even full side, towards the stallion, though she tries to do so as subtly as possible.

With a slowness that allows her to keep him in her peripheral view, she takes a small bite. Astraea wants to eat more, this was fresh and crisp and it had been too long since she had last eaten. But she wasn't alone and despite his words, she had been chased away mid-meal before. If she didn't look like she was eating too much, she might be able to eat for longer.

The first bite chewed and swallowed, Astraea offers a very soft, 'Thank you,' before taking another small bite.
