The day had come. The time had come. The show was in the evening, but he figured since it was their time off they'd go a little early- explore New York a little. He missed Philadelphia greatly, more and more lately, but while he could never go home, New York was a close second- at least in an East Coast City fashion.
Like he had when he had brought her the flowers and tickets, Jerry showed up at Chantelle's door in his semblance of a suit, freshly shaved and groomed, if definitely worn at the edges. His 'street clothes' Jacket was the least worn of all of his remaining clothes, and made up for the sad state of his suit.
He wanted this day to be magical. Just one flower was clutched to his chest as he knocked on her door, "Chantelle? You ready? They're waiting for us at the portals!"

When the time came to leave, Chantelle was already well and truly dressed for the occasion, her attire was modest as always, the dress she wore overlaid with fishnets which hooked around her fingers. The only flesh she had on display was her arms and her head, the rest of her was accented with flowing silk drapery in a deep navy blue. She had had to take it all in a little bit to make it fit, she was already losing weight after all. Her nails for the occasion were themed to the musical itself, carefully chosen symbols from it painted minutely across the sleek surface of each.
When she opened the door it was altogether a radiant but striking sight, her hair carefully styled, her makeup more emphatic - but at the same time less gaudy than usual.
"As ready as I will ever be." she said with a brilliant smile, holding her bag to her chest with one hand while the other, gloved past the elbow under the fishnets, sought out his hand. "And so excited."

"No tail or fur-" He started, but stopped abruptly at the sight of her. From head to toe, she looked,,, exquisite. "Oh... .oh goodness, you're... you look gorgeous!" Suddenly, he was feeling very self conscious about his shabby suit. His own hand was cold and trembling as she took it, his face flushing as he offered her the flowers he had taped together into a handmade corsage. "Let's get out of here before something else weird happens ahahaha..."

"I agree like, totally." she said with a sense of urgency. "That was like, really weird. I mean I love cats, they are my super favourite, but I really didn't much like being one, it was scary. I couldn't even get out of my room!" With a deft little twist of her free hand she fastened the corsage to her dress.
"It will be nice to get back into the real world, and I feel safer with you Jerry."

"At least the cats didn't have tentacles, ahahaha... but that sort of thing happens with the labs more often than you'd imagine. I spent a day as a penguin once. And then there was the er... time we were all rather buxom girls-" He cleared his throat, looking past her into some distant time that troubled him, "I don't know if there is a Real World anymore. But.. but it'll be nice to pretend. For an evening. With you," He slid his hand from her makeshift corsage to her fingers, smiling brightly as he held them, "C'mon, before the shops close! I hope you brought a coat!"

"Penguins?!" Chantelle exclaimed, choosing to sidestep the issue of busty women. "This island is so strange, it seems to get more and moreso with every day I'm here." She shook her head. "The world out there is real Jerry, or we have nothing to protect. Lets enjoy it and remember what it is we fight for." Her smile tweaked the corners of her eyes. "For a night. And don't worry about me, I don't mind like, a little cold!"
She was still a little flighty, but the portals always did that. They seemed a little hokey.

"Don't worry. I'll protect you," He assured her, feeling goofy to say it but meaning it all the same, especially after what she had said. "Even from New York." His hand tightened around her's as they stepped through and the cool Island air let loose to a freeze and flurry of snow and lights flickering down the alley they had materialized in.
He checked his local time. "We've got a couple hours before the show still- thank god! What would you like to do?"

"I could eat." she said, leaning closer to him in the face of the cold. Maybe an extremely small amount, but still, she could eat. "If you like that is, this is your valentines too you know. If you can think of anything else I'd gladly join you."
Still, the allure of upscale restaurants with tiny portions of delightfully cruel delicacies was difficult to resist.

"Where ever you want! Tonight is my treat," He reveled in the feeling of her hovering against him, his mind mulling over whether or not New York cheesesteaks were any good or not- he missed Philadelphia. They could try pizza, maybe...

"Then lets go to a really nice place?" she beamed at him. "I miss fine food like, we can just splash out! I will help out, we can have some really lovely food for a really lovely time." She pulled him a little closer, suddenly very affectionate at the prospect of expensive meals.

Jerry did a few mental calculations, "N-no, no today is my treat! Go ahead, pick whatever place you want!" She was so warm and soft beside him, by the time they hit the main street of restaurants, shops and lights, he felt as though he was floating.

Chantelle could simply not have grinned any wider if he tried. "Fantastic! I know like, just the place!" And with that and no further argument she led them in the direction of a restaurant she remembered from before the island, a place she'd visited in another life as someone else. Jerry was led into a tremendously upscale place which was extremely busy thanks to the holiday, but Chantelle moved with purpose and belonging.
"Wait here love." she said, giving him a fond smile. "It's busy but I'll get us a seat. Womanly wiles."
And she sauntered over to the waiter seating guests, patiently locked in conversation with him for a bit. Sometimes he looked over at Jerry then back at Chantelles emphatic gestures.
Then he beckoned them both into the dining room. She followed.
He'd been extremely amenable to the idea of Jerry as a NY fireman and his American duty to seat a True American Hero for one of the most important days of his life. Jerry might have gotten a few respectful comments along the way. It was really admirable what he'd done.

"Uh... wow!" Jerry mumbled, feeling very out of place in his shabby brown suit as he kept close to his much ritzier date. The more he blushed, the more his burn scars stood out, which only seemed to bring on more side comments from the wait staff as they were seated, "How... what did you say?? I don't think I've ever eaten at a place like this-" There were so many forks, so many forks, at their place settings.

Chantelle sat down with the air of someone who was surprisingly familiar with these upscale surroundings, seating herself and giving Jerry a fond look. "What matters is that we got a seat Jerry." she looked around. "And if you have never eaten in a place like this then prepare to have your taste buds like dazzled. The food here is like, what classical music is to like, a tv jingle to normal food."
She was so excited she could hardly contain herself, drinking in the atmosphere and PEOPLE.
There were people everywhere. People who weren't hunters. People.
Butch barked.

He raised his eyebrows, trying his best to straighten his jacket, "I feel under-dressed! Ahahaha but I'm certainly looking forward to it..." He picked up a menu, eyes scanning various dishes he had never heard of, but his eyes locked on the prices.
His face went a little green.
But no. This was Valentine's day. His first PROPER valentine's day in years. If ever. No heartbreak. Just fun and spoiling a pretty girl and yes. Yes.
Sixty dollars for grilled meat? Roar was ready to snort outright but Jerry ignored him.
His eyes skimmed the wine list.
Maybe... maybe just one glass. It would be very nice here, wouldn't it? How much was a bottle...
