Anthony Darrow had just finished his usual nightly routine. He'd closed up the library, as always, and made sure all the doors were locked. There was a bit of a mess inside, he had not been able to complete a full pick up, but usually the opening crew would go around and collect all the unshelved or misplaced books that he did not manage to get before his shift was done. They would but them at the desk for resorting, or sometimes, if they were feeling generous, take care of it themselves.

That was rare, of course, but at least the books would all be collected and put in the back for him to take care of when he came in the next day.

He had taken his corgi home, kissed his wife and made sure nothing at home was out of place before he came back out to start his patrol. He was standing on the roof, looking out over the city, powered up into his powerful secret form. The Templar of Earth was not looking for trouble, per se, just scanning the city for anyone who was causing it. He would always take the peaceful option if he could, but he was likewise a stalwart defender of the innocent and helpless.

Peering down over one of the railings, he looked down an alley between the library and a building next door. There were long windows on the second and third floors, looking into the study areas. There were a lot of books still on those tables, though he couldn't see from this angle. All he could see was the alley itself and the small balconies under the windows.

But sometimes youma liked to hang out in that alley, so it was always good to check.

If one were to look on the balconies in the alleyway, they were sure to be met with a slightly strange sight. Not inherently unordinary, unless you observed the sleek ball of fur too long. A cat with a scarf was sitting on the ledge, appearing to leer in through the windows to look at the books sitting out on the tables of the library. His tail swished back and forth as if he was distractedly reading, curling tightly around him when he was in deep thought, tiny eyebrows furrowing. Occasionally, if you stood there long enough, his paw would lift and eyebrows raise, padding his paw back down solidly and opening his muzzle as if to say 'ah hah!' when he'd discovered whatever answer he'd wanted.

Khayman was completely unaware how odd he looked to the general populace. He'd waited half the day for the humans to clear out of one of his new favorite haunts. Thankfully for him, a theology student had left all their research materials out on the table today, a topic which particularly excited the mau. Cocking his head this way and that to read some of the upside down pages he cursed his inability to read more than two pages in any one setting. Humans took for granted being able to take away such knowledge, to finish their own research and sate their curiosity. It rankled him that he could not. Especially on such fascinating subjects.

Human faith was terribly complex, and throughout the years many had died for their convictions, hurt others even. It was such an abstract idea, one that required such devotion, that it intrigued the cat on the ledge. Perhaps he could understand the underlying conflict between the two factions if he could understand why humans fought over such abstract things in the first place? How did it motivate them? How were they able to press past their physical and mental boundaries and pull out more power and stamina because of such an immaterial idea such as faith in something?

He sighed softly, ears drooping as he batted the necklace nestled deep in his fur that his energetic friend Pip had gifted him. Would he become stronger if his little friend was in trouble, or did such things simply not effect his kind? He lamented that he didn't have anyone to debate or research the topic with. Especially someone with a library card and oppose-able thumbs.
