Aijaa Lu accepted the other's hand and shook it briefly, pulling back perhaps a tad quicker than he should. "Oh... w-well, I um- I... guess I could stay, if you want me to..? It's nice to meet you," Lu replied quietly, returning his hands to the safety of his pockets. Tugging at the loose thread in one of the pockets, Lu shrugged noncommittally. "I'm not... not really a club person, I think," he said, "Never been in one." Not that he wouldn't enjoy the gardening club- but he was too wary of locking himself into a club with people that he didn't know. He might hate them- they might hate him. It was really too much of a risk. "It's nice to meet you too -- and of course, please stay a while." Kyouya threw a small glance towards the closest armchair -- it was still tucked well out of the way of the main area. "Would you like to have a seat? More comfortable than leaning against the wall," he suggested. At the second statement, he cracked just a sliver of a smile. "Well, you're in one now," he pointed out lightly. "For values of "in" that reflect only on the place, and not necessarily on membership. Is it that bad?"

Lu's mind was telling him no, he should come up with an excuse and leave. An excuse.... he didn't have anywhere to be! So a lie? He wasn't any good at lying, it'd be too obvious and then he would feel bad for lying! "Sitting down wouldn't be so bad," he said with a twinge of resignation in his voice.
Lu let out a puff of air in a small laugh, reaching up to scratch the back of his head. "It kind of is bad, yeah. ...I-I mean! Not that this place is bad- no! Just um, I don't- there's people- I'm not very... people." Lu furrowed his brows and tried to think of a better phrase for whatever he'd attempted to say. "I mean, I'm not good, with people..?"

Kyouya let Lu take his seat first, then he took one that was not exactly opposite, but slightly at an angle, so that Lu didn't have to look at him directly if he didn't want to. "Being with people is a skill, just like any other. It takes practice," he said gently, and perhaps it was simply automatic that he reached for a couple of teacups and a steaming pot of fine green tea. "It's easier for you to be with plants, ne? You've had a lot more practice with that. What do you like to do? Gardening, or bonsai, or ... ?"
